UPUD Meeting Tuesday May 15

Union Public Utility District (UPUD) in Murphys is moving its regular meeting to Tuesday May 15. The meeting starts at 7 PM and is held at 339 Main Street. On the agenda is the election to the LAFCO special district board.

Letter to Editor - Performing Arts Center

Dear Sierra Sentinel Editor:
A CUSD Performing Arts Center? Where Past and Present Collide. What will the remaining bond money be used for; a performing arts center, or....? This very question will be raised at the next school board meeting on May 15. (the topic was added to the agenda on May 9th as an addendum).

Calaveras County is Hiring

   Check out the Calaveras County website to see if you qualify for any of the jobs they are seeking to fill. The are looking for an Accounting Technician IV, a Business Analyst II (Extra Hire) and a Clerical Assistant III (Extra Hire), and there may be others.

Murderer Stays Put

   On May 9, convicted murderer Francisco Rubio, 67, was denied release on parole and will remain in prison for now. This was his 5th time before the parole board. District Attorney Barbara Yook appeared at the hearing in Vacaville to oppose Rubio's release and argue that he still poses an unreasonable risk to public safety. The parole board ultimately agreed and denied his release for another 3 years.

Letter to Editor - Promise to Veteran

The last two weeks there has been activity at a new building in Valley Springs. When I asked someone what was going on they said the new American Legion building was being worked on. However, when I inquired further someone else said it was a building only for the veterans.

Burn Permits for Angels Camp Residents

   Returning to the Angels Camp City Council agenda for next Tuesday, May 15, at 6 PM is the new ordinance for burn permits, which didn't pass the City Council the last time it came up for a vote. They are bringing it back with some changes, and insisting that this must be the new law of the land in Angels Camp.

   COG (Calaveras Council of Governments) met without Tom Tryon present. Now, everyone knows that many voters are unhappy with Tryon. However, at this meeting, Supervisor CALLAWAY suddenly came on camera, replacing Tryon. This is scary!

  Love your new site!  This letter is about Steve Wilensky. And it's not a nasty one. I don't like his politics and the mouthy way he pushes his weight around, but he did something right at the last Board of Supervisors meeting.
