Living on Lake Tulloch

     This time of the year, many vacationers dream of living, or at least renting, a home on Lake Tulloch. Some of these vacation homes bring families from the Bay Area to enjoy our beautiful lake.

SWAT Training in Calaveras County

     On Wednesday, June 6, the Calaveras County Sheriff's SWAT team, along with Tuolumne and Amador county SWAT teams will be conducting training in three locations in Calaveras County.

Another AB109 Arrest in San Andreas

     Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputies were despatched to the parking lot of Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas on a report of a verbal altercation.

Calaveras Arts Councils e-Book It!

     The Calaveras Arts Council is inviting the public to join computer scientist and author Lou Gonzalez for a Manzanita Writers Press eBook creation workshop on Saturday, July 14 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Calaveras County Arts Council Gallery at 22 Main Street in San Andreas.

Rain On The Way For Foothills

    According to current weather reports, we will be getting showers today and possibly tomorrow, with temperatures well below normal with 70's seen in much of the Sierra Nevada Foothill communities.

Public Health #1 County Issue?


Acording to Tom Tryon, the Public Health Department is much more important to fund than our Sheriff's Department. Mentioning influenza and STD's in schools, he simply doesn't seem to be on track with the public, as we all worry about crime, drug use and early prison releases into our county.

Hwy 4 Bear Valley Auto Accident

      Ms. Megan Cavanaugh, of Carson City, Nevada was driving eastbound on Hwy 4 near Bear Valley  at around 55 MPH in a 2005 Toyota, according to CHP, as she approached a sweeping left curve in the road.
     Her vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder, and Ms. Cavanaugh over-corrected, crossing both lanes and rolling over.
     She was airlifted to a Reno, Nevada Hospital with moderate injuries.  Her Toyota Corolla was apparently totaled.
     

Richard Dawson Passes

    Richard Dawson, one of the original "Mash" characters, and host of Family Feud for many years, passed  away late yesterday. As the host of the game show, he claimed to have kissed over 20,000 women.

Accident on Mountain Ranch Road


     Matthew Erickson, 32, of Turlock, was driving westbound on Mountain Ranch Rd over the weekend at an unsafe speed, according to CHP, when he allowed his 2006 Honda to travel off the paved roadway while attempting to negotiate a curve.

We Recommend a "Yes" Vote on Prop 28 & Prop 29



California Proposition 29, the Tobacco Tax for Cancer Research Act is on the June 5, 2012 presidential primary ballot in California as an initiated state statute.  
   If Proposition 29 is approved by California's voters, the tax on cigarettes in the state will increase by $1.00 per pack. California’s current cigarette tax is 87 cents per pack. The total tax per pack of cigarettes, if Proposition 29 passes, will be $1.87/pack. The additional tax revenue will be used to fund cancer research, smoking reduction programs, and tobacco law enforcement.

Johnny Depp Honored

     At last nights MTV Awards, Johnny Depp was honored with the Generation trophy.

DUI Accident in Valley Springs

    According to the CHP, Eleanor R. Solo, 46, of Valley Springs was driving her 2003 Ford on Hautley Ln while intoxicated.
     For an unknown reason, she stopped her vehicle and allowed it to back down the roadway and off of the edge.
     The Ford backed down an embankment and struck a fence.  According to the report, Solo remained at the scene and was eventually arrested and booked into the Calaveras County jail for DUI.  She was not injured.

American Cancer Society - "Yes on Prop 29"

     The American Cancer Society is stating they support a "Yes" vote on Prop 29.
