Which city councilperson
does this guy resemble?
On the regular agenda for Tuesday's Angels Camp City Council meeting is the Public Hearing on Ordinance # 452 to make debris burning unlawful without a City Permit. It will be most likely the last time the public will be allowed to make comments before they pass it against the citizens.

Scary Update on the Blue Tarp Gang by a "SISTER"?

198 Family Member = Alot of Tarps
Dear Editor:
I want to thank the owner of the Sentinel for allowing me to read  the death threat e-mail they received just last week.
What most people thought of as a hilarious take on a neighborhood problem, solicited one dangerous "family of 198" response.

City of Angels Camp Agenda

We received the Angels Camp City Council agenda for next Tuesday's meeting. The first thing we noticed is that the incorrect language we called their attention to in the Public Comments section had been changed.

Letter to Editor: Calaveras County Sheriff's Department Needs Help

Dear Sierra Sentinel Editor:
It seems funding for our Sheriff's Department is way below the per population amount of neighboring counties.

Where Were You When Nixon Resigned?

A study by the Pew Research Center shows that 71% of the public remembers where they were the day Nixon resigned. When was that?  In August of 1974.  Seems like only yesterday.
How many of you remember where you were when it was announced that President Kennedy had been assassinated?

Letter to Editor: Conflicts Could be Avoided if County Followed Codes

love them or hate them,
roosters will be roosters
     Dear Sierra Sentinel:
Love your paper, glad you're online.  I want to comment on the agricultural dispute committee or whatever its called.
Mary Mutz and her merry men or women who sat on that committee caused more problems than they solved. Look at the murders in Burson. And they allowed the ROOSTER problem to continue for years.
If they had only forced Code Enforcement to do their job in the first place, I don't believe any of this would have happened.
I agree with Supervisor Wilensky. Get RID OF IT! A committee made up of PRO-AG people resolving the problems of non-ag people? Give me a break! Bias, bias, bias, that's all I ever saw in the committee. Dissolve it and move on.

What To Do With Calaveras County's Rabid Water Fowl

So this is what you do with a rabid water fowl
At budget hearings today, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors heard from Animal Control. Supervisor Spellman asked what the animal control does when they find a rabid water fowl.
Animal Control answered by saying that water fowl are not known to be rabid, but if they are displaying what would be a rabid behavior it would proabably indicate mental illness in the bird.  Spellman said that yes, that  apparently that was likely to be the probable diagnosis.
Someone out in the audience flinched and feathers flew, showing  their rabid water fowl face, and then ran to hide in the marsh. Who could that have been?

FIRE along Hwy 4 in Douglas Flat

If you take Hwy 4 through Douglas Flat and Vallecito in the mornings, you noticed another black charred area along the Hwy this morning, June 14, 2012.
This was a fire that appears to be caused by an errant smoker, who carelessly throws cigarette butts out the window instead of into the ashtray.
Clearly caught early, this could have been a disastrous fire; another fire caused by careless HUMANS. Will some people ever care about others? How about a $10 a pack tax to help pay for the fire expense from careless smokers?

Happy Flag Day!

Today, June 14 is flag day. Don't forget to fly yours if you have one.
Adopted as the anniversary of the day the first U.S. flag was adopted, it began as its own day in the late 1800's when a teacher wanted his pupils to learn more about our flag, and then became official in the early 1900's.

First Perfect Game in Giants History

Giants Pitcher Matt Cain made history for the San Francisco Giants last night, June 13, 2012, as he pitched a perfect game in their defeat of the Houston Astros in San Francisco.
Cain struck out 14, his career high, and his outfielders helped with two spectacular catches. With eight years in the Giants franchise, he has the longest tenure on the team.  He signed a 6 year contract renewal in April.
This is just the 22nd perfect game in major league baseball history (including postseason), and it tied Sandy Koufax's record for strikeouts in a perfect game.
