Crews Fight Horseshoe Fire At Night To Contain Blaze Near Copperopolis

   The Horseshoe fire that started at 1:46pm on Thursday continues to burn as emergency fire crews work through the night to contain the blaze.  The Horseshoe Fire is located at South Horseshoe Dr. & Hwy 4, three miles northeast of Copperopolis and is now nearly 100 acres in size and 50% contained as of 5:30pm as it burns toward Poole Station Rd.

Diamond XX Fire Produces Heavy Smoke Through Copperopolis

   Currently emergency crews from the surrounding areas are responding to a serious vegetation fire off of Hwy 4 & Horseshoe Dr. in the Diamond XX area 3 miles north east of Copperopolis.  Spotter planes are on scene directing the fire fighting efforts.  With low humidity and higher winds fire crews and working feverishly to contain the fire.  The heavy smoke has made its way south down the Copper Valley Canyon and over lake Tulloch. Reports are coming in from Angels Camp that heavy smoke is present there also.

Do the Mexican People Support Using Military Against Drug Cartels?

   In a recent Pew Research poll, as Mexico's President Felipe Calderon's term draws to a close, 80% of the residents polled still support using their own military against the drug cartels.
   However, only 47% of the people polled feel that they are making much headway into breaking up those same cartels.

Jack Lodato Passes

   We just received word through a personal e-mail that Jack Lodato, San Andreas resident and longtime beloved teacher and coach at Calaveras High School passed away on Father's Day. We will provide more details as they become available.

Prince William Turns 30, Inherits $15.5 Million of Mother Diana's Estate

  Today is Prince William's 30th birthday, and a small gift received will be $15.5 million from his mother Diana's estate.
   Diana died in a fiery car crash, leaving two grieving sons. William is the eldest. It is reported that his wife Kate is planning a Birthday party for him.
