The Pine Tree in Calaveras News

   Standard, patch, strip, with reserves, slash and burn.  No matter what you call it its clear-cutting.  Remove every trunk so no canopy remains.  Clearcutting is deforestation, the desecration of natural habitats and it contributes to climate change.  Many call clear cutting a controversial forestry/logging practice but in Ebbett's Pass it flat out means the removal of the cedar and the pine tree in Calaveras County.   

Calaveras Sheriff Arrest in Arnold for Possession

   Denise Diane Almer (22, of Arnold), was arrested and cited for Possession of a controlled substance, a Felony,  possession of controlled substances with intent to sell, being under the Influence of a controlled substance, and DUI for Alcohol or Drugs (misdemeanors).

Murphys Sanitary District June Meeting Chaotic & Uncontrolled

Arrest For Infliction Of Corporal Injury On A Spouse and ....

     Kimberly Ann Smith (48, of Arnold) was arrested for Inflicting injury (a felony 273.5  A of the PC) to a spouse or cohabitant and for paraphernalia of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor).
  

Cal Fire on Campfire Safety

Don't let this happen to our forests.
Be careful with fire.
   CalFire is warning all those who plan to camp this 4th of July weekend that they will need a campfire permit, and to make sure they have a five-foot clearance around their campfires.

Mountain Ranch Woman arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Obstructing a Public Officer

     Catherine Mary Worthington (56, of Mountain Ranch), was arrested for Disorderly Conduct due to alcohol, Obstructing a Public Officer and making annoying calls to 911, all misdemeanors.
     No further details were currently available.

Chamber of Commerce Open House

    The Calaveras Chamber of Commerce is inviting all local business people to an open house at Angels Sheet Metal and Distinctive Metals.
   It will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 5:30 PM and the location is on Gun Club Road south of Angels Camp. Local wines and appetizers will be served.

Pitbulls reported running loose...

     Monday evening, June 25, 2012, the Sheriff's Department got a report of 3 Pitbulls running loose on Horseshoe Dr. in Hathaway Pines.
    Many residents in the Hathaway Pines area are concerned that as soon as evening comes certain people allow their dogs to run free.

Study Says California Sea Level to Rise 5 Feet

     In a study released by the National Research Council, it is reported that sea levels along the California coast are expected to rise up to 1 foot in 20 years, 2 feet by 2050 and as much as 5 1/2 feet by the end of the century.

Lightning Stikes Golf Course

    At a golf course near Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut yesterday, several employees were taken to the hospital with
reported burns after lightning struck near where they were working.

Venus Williams Loses at Wimbledon

 
  Coming as a shock to many U.S. tennis fans, Venus Williams lost in the very first round at Wimbledon. The Williams sisters have many wins in the English tennis championships in their past.

Alex Trebek Wins Emmy, Suffers Heart Attack

 
   Alex Trebek, host of televisions popular game show Jeopardy, is reportedly up and around after suffering a heart attack. Trebek recently won an Emmy for TV's best Host of a game show.

Murdoch Rushes Sale of Hawaii's Lanai Island

    In an attempt to learn more about Castle and Cooke's reasons for the sale of the island of Lanai, we discovered that the Honolulu Star Advertiser had previously reported that Castle and Cooke had been losing anywhere from$10 to $20 million a year in Lanai alone. Now we have learned that David  Murdoch, owner of Castle and Cooke has put the RUSH on the sale of 98% of  he island to Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle.
