A Special Board of Supervisors Meeting Thursday July 5, 2012

     A special Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 9 AM with one item, a minute order authorizing the filling of one vacant unfunded Deputy Sheriff II position and approving a Budget Transfer to increase the Sheriff's offices by $90,984.

   This will require a 4/5 vote of the Board.   The Sheriff was shorted because of Supervisors who placed Public Health Nurses and Sexually Transmitted Diseases  above our need for protection by Law Enforcement.

    It seems that the Chair, Gary Tofanelli gets the credit for finding the money and getting the special meeting set up.  We sent him an e-mail thanking him and told him that this should keep him out of the Donkey Pen for awhile.

   There will also be a closed session for anticipated litigation. (two cases)

     Andy Griffith, who played the beloved Sheriff on "The Andy Griffith Show" and many others along the way in his TV career, passed away peacefully at his home in North Carolina at around 7 AM this morning, June 3, 2012. He was 86.

Fire in Rancho Calaveras From Fireworks

     CalFire has reported  a vegetation fire in the 5000 block of Thornicroft Dr. in Rancho Calaveras  was caused by fireworks.

     Two units responded, Jenny Lind Fire and CalFire, who were able to extinguish the fire in about a 1/2 hour. No estimated dollar amount of loss was available.
    Late yesterday CalFire actually admitted on their website that so-called "safe and sane" fireworks also cause fires. A simple sparkler can ignite the dry grass.
