What Does a "30% Contained" Fire Mean?

In this photo, a vehicle patrols a bull-
dozed swath of fireline for any
possible sparks crossing the clearing.
CalFire and other fire-fighting organizations use the term "contained" when referring to the size of the fire. What does that mean exactly?
"Containment" according to one fire personnel we spoke with, refers to the amount of the fire that has a line of firefighters or a wide bulldozed clearing around it.
Just because a fire is 30% contained doesn't mean it can't still spread.

Letter to the Editor: Murphys Sanitary District Board Members

   Dear Sierra Sentinel Editor:
I must have had my head in the sand, because until you started checking on what's going on at MSD I actually had no clue how bad it was.
If there are any MSD Board Members with anything but taking care of the ratepayers on their minds, they better get out now!

How Long Do They Have to Suffer?

Maybe we're too animal friendly here at the Sentinel, but a report to CHP of an injured deer in the road near the Jackson Rancheria  off-ramp was called in at 7:11 AM.
At 8:59 AM the CHP officer reported that it was again sitting up, meaning that in all that time, no one had come to assist the injured deer.
How long must an animal suffer before Animal Services or someone either helps the injured deer or puts it out of its misery? There is no excuse!
