Black Irish Band Heats Up Valley Springs.

     The Black Irish Band of Sonora will bring its unique musical style to the town of Valley Springs on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, when the Calaveras County Arts Council presents one of its free "Music in the Parks" concerts.

   This is such an unusual sign to see in Calaveras County during this economy that we thought we would pass it along. A big handwritten sign at the new Coyote Grill restaurant in Murphys is sitting out in front.
   It says they are hiring all kinds of workers for the restaurant. No phone number is listed, which means they want you to apply in person.  Good luck!

Another One Bites The Dust In Bankruptcy


  As you may have heard on the news this morning, San Bernardino has filed for Bankruptcy protection, saying it has no money to pay its debts.
   How can Calaveras County be so solvent? Our economic conditions are

Accident at Hwy 4 and Big Trees Pkwy.

      CHP reports a traffic collision was reported around 1:15PM on Wednesday July 11, 2012  in Ebbetts Pass at Hwy 4 and Big Trees Pkwy.
    Apparently a Blue Subaru either hit a deer or swerved to miss a deer and ran off the road in a solo accident.   No injuries were reported. A tow truck was dispatched to the scene.

Accident on Hwy 26 at the Mokelumne River Bridge

   An accident has been reported to CHP on Hwy 26 at the North Fork of the  Mokelumne River Bridge. This was reported at 12:35 PM on July 11, 2012. Minor injuries were reported, and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

  

Hit and Run at Hwy 49 and Campo Seco Turnpike

    CHP reports  a traffic collision hit and run at Hwy 49 and the Campo Seco Turnpike around 12:15 PM. No injuries were reported.

Grass Fire in Valley Springs

     In Calaveras news, Cal Fire battled a grass fire on the 1000 block of Hogan Dam Road in Valley Springs yesterday, July 10, 2012.
   It was reported about 7:30 PM and units from San Andreas, Valley Springs, Jenny Lind and Arnold responded.
   The cause was a vehicle, and no injuries were reported.  Approximately 2 acres of grass and vegetation burned with an estimated dollar damage of $400.
    This fire took about two hours to extinguish.
     

Linda Weir

       Private Memorial services will be held for Linda Diane Weir, nee Gentry, of Angels Camp.
     Mrs. Weir died Monday, June 25, at home, surrounded by her animals,

Calaveras News: Shots Fired in Valley Springs

     The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Stabulis Rd. in Valley Springs July 10, 2012.
   No indication is given of whether  the shooter was located or not.

Burglary Reported in Valley Springs

     A residential burglary in Valley Springs was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department yesterday, July 10, 2012.
    The burglary, which was not in progress, was reported at a residence on Garner Place. 

Special Session on Thursday, July 12, 2012 for Calaveras County Board of Supervisors

   A Special Session of the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors has been called for Thursday, July  12 at 2 PM.
     This will be a closed session that will be held in the County Counsels office.

Update from CalFire on Don Pedro "Seven" fire

   Update as of 8:40 AM Wednesday, July 11, 2012:
Firefighters have been battling what is currently an 840 acre fire off Paseo Seven Legends Rd. east of La Grange Rd, southwest of Don Pedro Reservoir. It is being called the Seven Fire.
   Three acres of an olive orchard have been destroyed, but no homes are threatened at this time.
   CalFire units from both Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties are responding. CalFire says this fire is now 100% contained.

Sexual Assault Reported in Angels Camp

     On 07/09/12, at approximately 4:00 P.M., an officer responded to a reported sexual assault that occurred in the swimming pool at the Worldmark Resort time shares in Angels Camp.

Arrest at Railroad Flat General Store

   A call out to the Railroad Flat General Store resulted in the arrest of Donald Lee Tarrance,  58 of Mountain Ranch for the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office.

  Tarrance was arrested for  Transporting a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, all felonies.

Paddle Boat Stolen

      A paddle boat was reported stolen Tuesday, July 10, 2012, from the area of Little John Rd/Moccasin St. in Copperopolis.

Man Arrested in Copperopolis

       On Tuesday, July 10, 2012, Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies were called to a Signal Hill address in Copperopolis.
     Robert Kenneth Leonard, 56, of Copperopolis, was arrested for Infliction of Corporal injury on a Spouse or Cohabitant 273.5 A PC, a felony.
   No other details have been made available at this time.
    

Sites Fire Actually 5 Fires

   What many believe was caused by an arsonist, the Sites Fire in the Napa-Sonoma area of the state is actually 5 different fires that have now consumed 4,185 acres.
   CalFire reports that is is now 70% contained.
