Man Pushing his Cart

    About 10:05 PM on Thursday July 12, 2012, CHP received a report of a man pushing a shopping cart in and out of the lane of traffic at Hwy 12 and Lime Creek Road.
    An officer was dispatched to the scene to clear the hazard to drivers. Use caution in the area.

Olympic Uniforms Made in China?

    As shocking as it may seem, today even Congress was made aware that the uniforms for our Olympic team in London were made in China.

   Harry Reid made an angry speech in front of the halls of congress, stating that it was a shameful embarrassment to our athletes.

   The athletes themselves didn't seem to care much. 

Accident at Woodhouse Mine Rd and Hwy 26

    A traffic collision was reported at 5:25 PM on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Woodhouse Mine Rd and Hwy 26 in Valley Springs.
     No injuries were reported. CHP on the scene stated there could be intoxication involved. A tow truck was dispatched to the scene.

  Use caution in the area.

Vehicle Blocking Hwy 26 and Garner Place

   A vehicle reportedly blocking part of the road at Hwy 26 and Garner Place in Valley Springs: possibly an abandoned vehicle, parked partially on the curve.

A CHP officer was dispatched to investigate a hazard to motorists. 

Obama Holds Lead: Romney Trails on Most Issues

     Despite the stagnant economy and broad dissatisfaction with national conditions, Barack Obama holds a significant lead over Mitt Romney, according to a Pew Research Poll, as of July 12, 2012. 
   Currently, Obama is favored by a 50% to 43% margin among registered voters. Unfavorable ratings of the Supreme Court, meanwhile, have increased—especially among republicans—following last month's health care ruling.

Erle G. Howery

    Copperopolis resident since 1993, Erle G. Howery passed away peacefully at a San Andreas hospital at the age of 89 on June 19, 2012.
     Born May 5, 1923, in Montgomery, West Virginia, Mr. Howery became an experienced journalist, earning both military and civilian credentials during more that 50 years in the news, publication, and public relations fields.

Anna Marie Goyer

      Anna Marie Goyer passed away at her residence in Valley Springs on June 9, 2012.  Born on October 16, 1929 in Naples, Italy, she was 82 years old.
     Anna arrived in the U.S. is 1947 as a war bride. She settled in Illinois and raised 6 children and 4 step-children.

Darci Scott Thornton

    Darci Scott Thornton, 42 year resident of San Andreas, passed away at his home on July 4, 2012.  He was 62.
    A native of Ogden Utah, Mr. Thornton was a carpenter. He moved to Monterey in 1955, and then to San Andreas. He served in the Vietnam War and loved his cats.

Big Rig Fire Reported in Valley Springs

     CHP reports a car fire at the intersection of Hwy 12 and 26 in Valley Springs was reported at 10:20 AM on July 12, 2012.
     A big rig was spewing out dark smoke at the passing lane, but no actual flames  were seen per the officer upon arrival to the scene.

Dennis Maloney

     Dennis R. Maloney of San Andreas, passed away peacefully in his home on June 27, 2012.
      He was born in San Mateo in 1946 to William and Earlene Meyners. He grew up in the Irvington District of Fremont.

Herbert Eugene Ketchum

     Herbert Eugene Ketchum, of Valley Springs, passed away at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital on July 2, 2012. He was 93.
     A native of Oklahoma, born on November 1, 1918, Mr. Ketchum lived in Valley Springs for 7 years, and had previously lived in Douglas Flat for 20 years.

Murphys Sanitary District President Wants No Elections?

Copperopolis Home Robbed!

     A resident on Arrowhead St. in Copperopolis reported to Calaveras County Sheriff Deputies that a grand theft had taken place on July 11, 2012.

   No further details were given. 

Boat Sunk at Kiva Beach Boat Ramp?

     A report was given to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department on July 11, 2012 that they can see a submerged boat floating in the water against the shore near the swimming area at Tulloch.
    No indication is given whether the department followed up or if they found the owner of the sunken boat or if there was a boating accident.

Good Deed Leads to Discovery of Grand Theft

     On Wednesday, July 11, 2012, a  Summit Level Road resident in Railroad Flat reports that he was assisting a stranded motorist, and when he returned to his home he found he had been robbed.
      In fact, it was found to be grand theft. No other details were available.

Another Tryon Fire Under Investigation?

     When we received an anonymous tip that there may have been  another runaway fire at the Tryon ranch last week, we sent an e-mail to the CalFire records department. We had not received any press release on such a fire.
