Political Blunder of the Week

    Today, August 2, 2012, was the day that the Romney camp came out with a new website aimed at winning over Latino voters, which he needs to win the Presidency. Romney's son appeared on the website speaking fluent Spanish.

   Meanwhile,

White Van into Creek

   A traffic accident was reported to CHP on August 2, 2012 on Railroad Flat Road at Warregard. The caller said that a white van was half off the road and into Esperanza Creek.

   A CHP unit was dispatched to the scene. No injuries were reported.

  

Accident on Parrotts Ferry Rd at Airola

  A traffic accident on Parrotts Ferry Road at Airola was reported to the CHP at around 2:50 PM on August 2, 2012.

  A Dodge Neon and a Beige Ford Pickup at reportedly blocking the road.  Minor injuries have been reported and an ambulance was dispatched.  We will update as we receive more information.

  UPDATE:  At 5:10 PM CHP reported that they were getting the road cleared out..Patients were transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center.

Assessor Gets Board of Supervisors $500,000 Windfall?

Although the property tax assessment rolls went down only 4.37% per the tax assessor, many in the County are complaining that their property values went down more like 10 to 15%. So what happened?
    How these figures are arrived at is in question, but the main issue is that the Tax Assessor has actually created a windfall for our County Supervisors of somewhere around $500, 000.
In fact, we understand that the next agenda (they get a three week break between the last meeting) they will have an agenda item  to decide on what to spend this money.

Minutemen Survival Supply Store?

  We've had several calls asking about the "Minutemen Survival Supply Store" that hung a big banner and pitched a tent at the gas station over the past weekend.

   We sent an e-mail to Michael McHatton, City Administrator in Angels Camp, asking if they were permitted, had a license etc.

Rhonda Lee Anderson

   Mrs. Rhonda Lee Anderson, a 15 year resident of San Andreas, passed away on July 30, 2012 at her home. She was 60.

Mining Equipment Stolen in Campo Seco

  The Calaveras County Sheriff's Department received a report that a theft had occurred at Pereira's General Store in Campo Seco on August 1, 2012.

   The petty theft was of mining equipment. A deputy took the report. A suspect has not been named in the theft.

Home Depot Gives Grant to West Point

    According to Sandi Krewski, founder and leader of West Point's BMC Workshop, they just received a grant from Home Depot' Community Impacts Grant Program.

Watch out for Black Cow!

      Looks like our elusive cow in the roadway is back. Where is Cowboy Tyrone when we need him?

     CHP received a report that a black cow is now in the road at Double Springs Road and Hwy 12 in Double Springs.

     Reported at 7:56 AM, an officer is enroute. Use caution on your way to San Andreas until Cowboy or the CHP arrive.
