Be Cautious of Deer Crossing the Hwys

   Another accident, this time at the intersection of Hwy 49 and Hwy 12 just outside San Andreas was reported to CHP of a vehicle hitting a deer.

   Apparently a red Honda Minivan was unable to avoid hitting the deer it was reported at 5:45 PM on August 3, 2012.

   CHP is enroute to the scene.  Deer are out all over the County, mostly looking for water, which is not plentiful this year.

   Slow down, especially in the mornings, and early evenings, as that is when they begin moving around.  You can also buy very inexpensive whistles the sit inside the front of the hood that warn the deer you are coming. They do work!

    The National Weather Service is warning  of the possibility of thunder and lightning, especially is the mountain areas of Calaveras County throughout the weekend, beginning Friday, August 3, 2012.

Two Sons Arrested at Father's Home on French Gulch Road

   Justin and Joseph Geto,  sons of the property owner arrived at their father's residence on French Gulch Rd, under the influence of methamphetamine on August 2, 2012, according to the Sheriff's Department records.

   In a paranoid state

Gary Fleeman Arrested for Battery in Arnold

   Gary Fleeman, (19) of Arnold, was arrested for alleged  misdemeanor battery after an altercation with his father which resulted in physical blows.

   The incident occurred on Fairway Drive. Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputies booked Fleeman into the Calaveras County Jail.

Assessor Responds to Readers Questions About Value

  Tax Assessor Leslie Davis responded to our readers questions about why overall property values only went down around 4 % while residents' property values went down 10 to 15 % in 2012.

Gunfire at Moran and Love Creek

   A resident reported hearing gunfire at Moran and Love Creek Rd in the Hwy 4 corridor.

    No indication was given if the shooters were located. A Calaveras County Sheriff's deputy wrote that no report was taken.

   We asked what the law about firearms actually states; Sgt Chris Hewitt at the Sheriff's Department, who is always helpful when we ask, wrote it out for us:

   9.12.030 - Firing within one hundred fifty yards of certain buildings....
     It is unlawful for any person, other than the owner, person in possession of the premises, or a person having the express written permission of the owner or person in possession of the premises, to discharge any firearm (as defined in California Penal code section 12001.1 b within one hundred fifty yards  of any occupied dwelling, house, residence, or other building or any barn or other outbuilding used in connection therewith.

   The one hundred fifty yard area is a "safety zone".

Burglary at Arnold Athletic Club

   On August 2, 2012, a burglary was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office that had occurred at the Arnold Athletic Club.

      A deputy was dispatched to the Hwy 4 location in Arnold and took the report. No indication is given of a known suspect at this time.

Mokelumne Hill Man Arrested

   Robert Alan Greeson, 58, of Mokelumne Hill, was arrested by CHP at Pope and Lewis Street in San Andreas on August 3, 2012.

   Five felonies involving drugs, transportation of drugs, etc. and 5 misdemeanors are listed as the alleged crimes.

   Greeson was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released after 1 day due to overcrowding.

Chick Filet Problems Continue

  After Chick Filet's President made a statement about being against gay marriage, the sides lined up in the public arena.

  In the midst of it all, Chick Filet's Chief Public Relations Director died of a heart attack. Some city's have now banned Chick Filet from moving into their areas.
