UPDATE:  As of Saturday morning, August 4, 2012, this fire is 980 acres and 75% contained.

UPDATE:  The public meeting at Lakehead brought out the type of problems a fire in Calaveras County would have. Without power, telephone service, and with I-5 closed for 10 hours, evacuees were not sure where to go or what to do. Rural areas like this one are not prepared to handle mass numbers of people and miscommunications were commonplace for the first two days of the fire.

Frustrated residents eagerly listened as NorCal Fire leaders announced the 70% containment, and mop-up in progress.

UPDATE:  Due to success of torching and backfires the fire is now 70% contained. Some road closures and evacuations are still in place, but mop-up mode is now in effect.August 3,2012 at 6 PM.

UPDATE:  August 3, 2012 at 1 PM.  A public meeting is planned for the Salt Creek Fire at the Lakehead Lions Club. The time is 7 PM and it is located at 20870 Lakeshore Drive in Lakehead.

We will report what the NorCal Fire Team covers in that meeting when we are advised.
