Does Something Really Stink at Murphys Sanitary District?

    Due to the complaints we've received about the possibility of Board of Directors' mismanagement of the Murphy Sanitation District and the disturbing meeting minutes over the past couple of years, the Sierra Sentinel feels there should be a complete investigation as to the dealings of certain members of the current Board of Directors and their possible conficts of interest.

Murphys Sanitary District Problems Continue to "LEAK" Out

   We can all see now, why Murphys Sanitary District has so many problems. One of the longtime  employees made a shocking confession at the MSD Board meeting on July 9, 2012, that he took calls at home for years, to give, what he says was extra special service.

Letter to Editor: About Black Bears

  Dear Sierra Sentinel Editor:

   We love the Sentinel animal stories and follow the website each day.  I have a belief that the California Fish and Wildlife or Fish and Game has a different reason for trying to make residents terrified of the bears.

Unemployment Up to 8.3 % Nationwide

  Although around 49,000 jobs were added in some sectors, overall the nations unemployment rose to 8.3%.

Large Fight at Lake Tulloch Resort Reported

    Someone reported a large fight going on in the parking lot at Lake Tulloch Resort on O'Byrnes Ferry Rd in Copperopolis on August 2, 2012.

 Calaveras County Sheriffs Deputies responded and took the report.The fight had broken up and the suspects fled the scene after the Sheriff was called.

Disturbance at Fly-In Lake in Arnold

  A distrubance at Fly-In Lake on Moran and Rainey was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office on Saturday, August 4, 2012.

  The deputy discoved that it was caused by three males in a physical altercation. No arrests were made.

Traffic Collision in Railroad Flat Area

    A traffic collison was reported to CHP on August 5, 2012 at around 2:20 PM at Independence and Liberty Hill Roads in the Railroad Flat area..

   No injuries have been reported. An officer is enroute. We will update as details become available. Be cautious in that area.

Lightning Starts Fires in Sequoia National Forest

   UPDATE:  As of Sunday August 5, 2012 a total of 9 fires are  attributied to what authorities believe are lightning strikes. There is 0% containment. The fires are located quite a way from the nearest town of Lake Isabella in steep terrain in the Sequoia National Forest.

Twenty-three Fires Ignited Along Hwy 96 in Klamath National Forest

      UPDATE: As of Sunday August 5, 2012, the Dillon Fire is 80% contained.

    UPDATE:  On the morning of August 4, 2012, we learned that at last count 23 fires had been ignited along Hwy 96 over a 20 mile stretch. 
   This is about 15 miles southwest of Happy Camp.The Dillon Creek Campground was evacuated, and Hwy 96 was closed to traffic. 230 acres have burned at last report.  Containment is 10%.

   The cause of the fires has now been officially designated as human. They have not yet used the term arson.

Fire in San Luis Obispo County

  UPDATE:  The Caliente Fire is now 250 acres and is 100% contained as of 6 PM on August 4, 2012
    CalFire has just reported a 100 acre fire  that started this morning August 4, 2012, in the Chimineas Ranch area North of New Cuyama in San Luis Obispo County.

   As of 11:30 AM on Saturday August 4, 2012 the fire now called the Caliente Fire is 0% contained.

Structure Fire in Twain Harte

   Cal Fire reports that they responded to a fire at a residence in the 22000 block of Southfork Rd. in Twain Harte just after 5:30 PM on Saturday, August 4, 2012.

   Several CalFire units responded from the surrounding area. The damage was reported to be $500,000.

  No injuries were reported in this fire. The fire was completely extinguished by !:38 AM on Sunday, August 5, 2012.  The cause is still under investigation.

Fire in Santa Cruz County near Los Gatos

  UPDATE:  CalFire reports the Las Cumbres Fire is now 100 % contained.
  CalFire reports that a fire was reported this morning August 4, 2012 in Santa Cruz County.

   Named the Las Cumbres fire it is currently 30 acres near Deer Creek Rd and is 0 % contained as of 11 AM.

   Presently there are 20 engines, two helicopters and 200 fire personnel assigned to this fire. No evacuations have yet been ordered.

Arrest in Arnold on Blagen Rd

   In a deputy initiated stop at the Big Trees Community Bible Church on Blagen in Arnold, a Calaveras County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspicious person there.

   No other details are available at this time.

Gunshots Heard by Deputy in San Andreas

   A deputy apparently heard gunshots at Russells and Poole Station Road in San Andreas and investigated, but no shooter was discovered.

Noise Disturbance on Hwy 49 near Melones

  A noisy disturbance was reported at Glory Hole Sports on Hwy 49 on Saturday August 4, 2012.

   Someone was blowing an air horn and shouting at cars passing by. The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office took the report. No one was cited or arrested.

Gunshots Reported in Valley Springs

  A resident at Usher Drive and Schmidt Place in Valley Springs reported hearing two gunshots on Saturday, August 4, 2012.

   A Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputy did not locate the shooter, but took the report.

Alarm Reported/Sheriff Deputy Finds Door Open

  Responding to an alarm at the San Andreas Medical clinic on Mountain Ranch Road, a Calaveras County Sheriff's deputy found a door open.

   Apparently no burglary had occured, but an hour or so later, the same alarm went off again and was indicated to be a false alarm.

Can I Have Money for Gas?

  A suspicious vehicle on Hogan Dam Rd. was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office on Saturday, August 4, 2012.

   Apparently someons was going around asking for money for gas. No one was arrested at the time.

Burglary Reported in Valley Springs

   Only one burglary was reported on Saturday, August 4, 2012. That was at a residence on Quail Oaks Road in Valley Springs.

   The informations was taken by a Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputy. No  known suspects were listed at the time of the report.
