Traffic Accident on Main Street San Andreas

   A traffic accident was reported to CHP that had occurred of Main Street in San Andreas at 7:07 PM on  August 7, 2012. A CHP unit was dispatched.

   Classified as a Hit and Run, there were no injuries reported. No other details are available at this time.

Murphys Sanitary Distrcit Personnel Committee Meeting

   A special meeting of the Murphys Sanitary District Personnel Committee is tomorrow, August 8, 2012 at10 AM at their office 90 Big Trees Rd in Murphys.

Robert Gill Jr. - September 14, 1924 to August 5, 2012

   Murphys resident Robert Gill Jr. died August 5, 2012 at home. He was 87.

   Mr. Gill was born in Palms to Robert Gill Sr. and Elsie Chalmers, both originally of Aberdeen, Scotland. He was raised in Palms and Venice, California.

Lawnmower Causes Jenny Lind Fire

    A fire was reported in Jenny Lind on Monday, August 6, 2012 around 12:30 PM in the 7700 block of Warren Road in Jenny Lind.

   CalFire units from Jenny Lind and Valley Springs responded to a fire that had been caused by a lawnmower in dry grass. More than likely the blade hit a rock and a spark started the fire.

   The fire was quickly brought into containment and limited to 1/4 acre of grass and vegetation.

Man With Backpack in Middle of Hwy 49 & 12

   Around 10 PM on Monday August 6, 2012, a report was called into the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office of a traffic hazard on Hwy 49 and 12.

   Reportedly a man with a backpack was walking in the middle of the road, creating a dangerous situation for drivers.

   No indication is given of whether a deputy found and removed the man or if he was gone before the deputy arrived.

Bear at Big Trees Market

   At around 9:30 PM on Monday August 6, 2012, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office received a call from Big Trees Market in Arnold that there was a bear in the dumpster out back.

   This was not just any black bear, but reportedly a 300 pound bear. We're not sure how they weighed him, but the deputy wrote that there was no report made.

   Hungry bears will find a feast in dumpsters from a grocery store if they can get into them. Hopefully they didn't call Fish and Game to come kill it.

Illegal Gunfire Reported in West Point

  The sounds of gunfire were reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office on Lili Valley Circle in West Point on Monday, August 6, 2012.

   The shots were reportedly coming from a nearby wooded area. This seems to be an ongoing problem, as we've seen these reports in that area before. What does the Sheriff's Office do about it?

Petty Theft Reported in Copperopolis

   The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office was notified that a petty theft had occurred on Feather Drive in Copperopolis on Monday, August 6, 2012.

   Apparently the theft occured after damaging vending machines. There is no indication of whether they have any suspect.

Arrest at Art's Tire in San Andreas

  Michael Steven Baird, 48, of San Andreas was arrested at Art's Tire for allegedly driving with a suspended license on a local warrant, driving with a suspended license. misdemeamors, and marijuana possession of less than 28.6 grams, an infraction.

   Baird was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by a sheriff's deputy and released by the court.

DUI Arrest on Hwy 4

   Michael Edward William Padgett, 28, of Arnold, was arrested by CHP on Hwy 4 east of Murphys for alleged  DUI alcohol or drugs, driving without a license, and DUI alcohol .08%, all misdemeanors.

  Padgett was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released with a citation.

Arnold Woman Arrested for Battery

  On Meadow Drive in Arnold, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office arrested Sandra Jean Murano for alleged Battery on a non-cohabiting spouse on August 6, 2012.

   Murano was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by a deputy.

Calaveras County Water District Meeting

   The Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) is holding its regular meeting on Wednesday Augut 8, 2012 at 9  AM in the Board Room at 423 E. St Charles Street in San Andreas.

   On the Consent Agenda is the usual Secretarial Fund, or paying the bills, wages, benefits, etc of $1,579,214.20.
