35 Major Fires in Western U.S.
Althought the Ramsey Fire in Ebbetts Pass has been contained, just a few moments ago on one of the national cable channels, a map was shown with a flame designating each fire that is burning in the western United States. It was horrifying. There are 35 currently.
So far this year, 6.75 million acres have burned. And we are just now coming into the fire season of the year.

UPDATE: August 19, 2012 7:30 PM The Ramsey fire is now 95% contained at 1155 acres. They received trace amounts of rain yesterday. They are asking visitors to the Hwy 4 corridor to be extra cautious as mop-up operations are ongoing near the Hwy.

Arrest in Campo Seco
A suspicious person on Campo Seco Rd in Campo Seco was arrested on outstanding local warrants at 7:15 AM on August 18, 2012
A Calaveras County Sheriff's deputy booked the suspect into the Calaveras County Jail. No other information is available at this time.

Car VS Pole on Quail Oaks
At 4:04 AM on August 19, 2012 CHP received a call that a traffic collision had occured on Quail Oaks Dr. in the Valley Springs area.CHP responded and found that a black mustang had sheered off a telephone pole at the base. An ambulance was called to the scene and the driver was transported to Mark Twain Hospital.
AT&T was notified about the pole damage.
