3 obits all in 1 for Nathan & Erika Howard, & Cathryn Caudle

 
 
    In loving memoir of my family, my son-in-law Nathan L. Howard Sr.
Born in Portland, OR Oct. 30, 1956 and passed away on April 23, 2010
of lung cancer.

   He was survived by wife, Erika Howard of San Andreas,
CA and 5 children & 7 grandchildren all of Oregon.

Deer Hit on Mountain Ranch Rd.

  An injured or dead deer was reported on Mountain Ranch Road and Michel Road in San Andreas at around 1 PM on August 22, 2012. CHP is enroute.

   Use caution in that area until cleared.

Fire at Landfill

   A fire was reported on August 22, 2012 at 12:55 PM at the landfill on Waverly Road in Milton. A modular building was reportedly on fire.

   Jenny Lind Fire was dispatched to the scene.

Both Vice-Presidential Picks Have Low Rating

   Whether Republican Paul Ryan or Democrat Joe Biden, the poll numbers are low. In a recent PEW Research Poll, people were asked their opinions of each VP choice.

    While Paul Ryan was viewed as a Good or Excellent choice by 28% of those polled, Joe Biden  was viewed as Good or Excellent as a choice by 27%.

Calaveras Arts Council Receives Grant

   A creating Public Value Grant was received by the Calaveras County Arts Council this week, according to a press release.

   The California Arts Council funded the grant, which supports arts organizations

Car Fire in San Andreas

    CHP got a report of a car fire on Church Hill Rd. in San Andreas at around 11:45 AM on August 22, 2012.

   Per CHP the car was on fire while being driven. The driver fled on foot. CalFire was also called out to the scene. A tow truck was dispatched.

   Use caution in the area until it is cleared.

  

UPUD Seeks New Board Member

   Due to the passing of Bill Riedel, there is now a vacancy on the Board of Directors of the Union Public Utility District.

   This position is an opportunity to serve on a public utility owned by the ratepayers. UPUD provides domestic and irrigation water services to both residential and commercial businesses within the UPUD boundaries.

Valley Springs Man Arrested

   Richard Lee Pierce, 59 of Valley Springs, was arrested at the Government Center bus stop on August 21, 2012.

   Pierce was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Battery on a non-cohabitating spouse, a misdemeanor.

   

North Pass Fire in Mendocino National Forest

   August 22, 2012 at 9 AM:  The North Pass Fire in the Mendocino National Forest is now 11,646 acres and is 11% contained.

Transient Arrested in San Andreas

   James Anthony Giuffra (29), listed as a transient, was arrested on Hwy 49 just south of Toyanza on August 21, 2012 by a Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputry.

   He was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged 2nd degree burglary, forging a prescription and Conspiracy to commit a crime, all felonies, and for disorderly conduct due to alcohol, a misdemeanor.
   

Ponderosa Fire Continues to Grow

As horrifying as this seems, starting backfires is

   August 22, 2012 at 8 AM:  The Ponderosa Fire continues to grow. The total acres now burned is 24,323 and it is 50% contained.

Moving Truck Pulls Down Wires in Sonora

    August 22, 2012 at 8:45 AM:  On Greenley Drive in Sonora it was reported to CHP that a Bekins Moving truck had hit and pulled down some kind of phone or power lines onto the road and drove on apparently without noticing.

   CHP believes it is telephone and AT&T was notified of a line across the road. Traffic control is in place in the area. Use caution on Greenley until it is cleared.

 AT&T repair told them they can't get out there until 2 PM. In an emergency?  Typical AT&T bureacracy. They are trying to go around the repair center.  Comcast cable line is also down.

Tryon Fire in Ebbetts Pass

    August 22, 2012 at 8 AM:  We finally got a report that this fire was contained at around 2/10th of an acre. It was near Tryon Peak on Calaveras Road in the Highland Lakes area of Ebbetts Pass. It had been caused by lightning.

   Yes, it's true. There was another fire started in Ebbetts Pass this afternoon August 20, 1012 around 4 PM. Those who saw the engines go out said they never saw them get out there that fast.

   We haven't had an official report, but over the scanner, they were saying it was again near a clear cut area, and they thought they could stop it at around ten acres.

   We will keep you posted.

Traffic Accident in Mokelumne Hill

   August 22, 2012 at 8:55 AM CHP just received a call that a traffic accident has occurred on Jesus Maria and Hawver Road in Mokelumne Hill.

   No injuries were reported. A tow truck has been dispatched.  The vehicle is apparently a dump truck that was involved.  Be extra cautious in that area until the scene is cleared.

Reading Fire in Lassen Volcanic National Park

   The Reading Fire in Lassen Volcanic National Park is now considered to be 100% contained at 28,079 acres.

Bagley Fire Still 0% Contained

    The Bagley Fire, is now 4130 acres and the 25 mile fire line they are trying to build is at 0% containment at this point.

    The terrain is extremely steep, and the possibility of the fire spreading is considered extreme. Big Bend is 7 miles from the fire line.

    This fire was caused by lightning, and is made up of several fires in the Shasta/Trinity National Forest. .
