New Road to be Named Jeff Tuttle Drive

  It appears that the Board of Supervisors is planning to name the new road into the criminal justice center at the County Jeff Tuttle Drive

Here's a rumor we haven't heard in a while: Apple might be working on a music streaming service. This service would be similar to the popular Pandora, which allows users to create virtual radio "stations" which play music similar to a particular song, artist or genre.

Fire Near Ukiah

  The Scotts Fire near Ukiah is reportedly 4600 acres as of 11:30 AM on September 12, 2012.  This fire is in Lake County.

   More evacuations are being planned at this time as the fire is only 80% contained.

Trespassing Reported in Valley Springs

   The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office was called about trespassing at the Calaveras Nursery in Valley Springs on September 7, 2012.

   The report was taken but as usual, the Sheriff's Office does nothing about trespassers.

Vandalism at Calaveras Sheriff's Office?

   A vandalism was reported at the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office on September 7, 2012.

   Apparently the subject was at the Office to make a counter charge.

Post Office Should be in Bankruptcy

   In March of this year, the US Postmaster General and CEO of the USPS gave testimoney before a House of Representatives Committee on the financial status of the USPS.

   Reading through his testimony,  CEO Patrick R. Donohoe  stated that the USPS is near its limit of $15 billion in debt and that if it was a private company it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Shasta/Trinity National Forest Fire

  As of September 9, 2012 at 12:30 PM the Bagley Fire  in the Shasta/Trinity National Forest, is 46,011 acres and is 82% contained.

   Despite flare-ups such as this one, most containment lines held overnight.

Mendocino National Forest Fire

    September 9, 2012 at 12 Noon:  The North Pass Fire in the Mendocino National Forest is now 89% contained. No growth in the fire has been observed in the past day.

George Fry Promotes Dave Haley and Sawmill

   Like most of us, the Sierra Sentinel usually ignores George Fry's rants at the Board of Supervisors and other meetings.

   But we do wonder who Mr. Fry is now working for that he is promoting a large development called Sawmill,  that Castle and Cooke and their local spokesperson Dave Haley have been pushing for years.

Bans on plastic bags have taken root in communities across the country, but banning the sale of water in plastic bottles? The town of Concord, Mass., is in line to be the first in the nation to do just that, now that the state's attorney general has signed off. The bottled water industry, however, is considering a lawsuit.

Noise Ordinance Exemptions

  A complaint the Sheriff's Department received on September 7, 2012 about a constantly barking dog is exempt under the noise ordinance the Calaveras County Supervisors have crafted.
