Chris W on Water

  We are very concerned that Chris W. who is running to clone for Steve Wilensky in District 2, has no clue about water rights.

   He stated at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday that he wanted Wild and Scenic, (meaning allowing more of our water to flow downstream) to be the designation of the Calaveras River. 

Cigarette Causes Fire

   A fire in Twain Harte that CalFire responded to and immediately suppressed without any large damage reported was caused by a careless smoker who threw his cigarette butt over a fence.

   The fire was on Columbia Drive in Twain Harte, Tuolumne County,  on September 9, 2012.

How Much Noise is Too Much?

   To noise or not to noise...that is the question.  Our Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, in their infinite wisdom (and we say that loosely),  plan to enact a noise ordinance in Calaveras County.

    What decibel level of noise is acceptable is debatable and how many $1000 + decibel meters will be purchased is not an easy decision, since the County policies have killed the economy and they have no "frivolous" money to spend, as in the past.

Fire Southeast of Hayfork

   The Stafford Fire, southeast of Hayfork is 4460 acres and 45% contained as of September 10, 2012 at 10 AM.

Car Seat Checks Coming Soon

   The CHP is holding a Child Passenger Car Seat Check on Saturday September 22, 2012  from 10 AM to 2 PM .

Shelton Rd & Hwy 26 is Construction Area

   Use caution in the Shelton Rd and Hwy 26 area as contruction is  underway. CHP is assisting in directing traffic.

16 Complex Fires

 The two fires that made up the 16 Complex Fires in Colusa County are 90% contained as of September 10, 2012 at 10 AM. 17,944 acres have been destroyed by this fire.

   All evacuations have been lifted.

Scott Fire in Lake County

  The Scott Fire in Lake County is 4618 acres and is only 15% contained as of September 10, 2012 at 9:45 AM.

   1380 personnel and 11 helicopters are battling this fire. The cause is still under investigation. An effort is being made to protect communication infrastructure in the Cow Mountain area.

Dave Haley Responds to Rumors

  Castle and Cooke's Dave Haley responded to our e-mail asking him to confirm or deny that Castle and Cooke had hired George Fry.

   Dave Haley said "Not true." to our question. Fry was apparently seen at a Board of Supervisors meeting promoting one of C&C's developments and many thought he may be working for them.

  Now we can say without uncertainty that this rumor is not true. We appreciate Mr. Haley's response.

Avery alarm set off by bears?

   The alarm went off at the 19th Hole in Avery on September 9, 2012, but it was believed to have been just bears in the garbage dumpster.
    No bears were arrested or cited.

Noise Complaint in Forest Meadows

   A complaint of noise due to a disturbance at Sugarbush Ln and Rosebud Ct. in Forest Meadows was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department on September 10, 2012.

   No arrests or citations were issued.

Disturbance Reported in Arnold

  A verbal altercation on Green Meadow Drive in Arnold was reported as a disturbance to Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies on September 9, 2012.

   No arrests or citations occured.

Firearms Discharged in Valley Springs

  Two reports of shots being fired in the Valley Springs area were reported on September 9, 2012.  One was on North Branch Ct. and the other on Hwy 26 within minutes of each other.

   No arrest or citation was issued in either case by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department.

Altercation reported in Arnold

 A resident on Pine Drive in Arnold called the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department on September 9, 2012 to report a disturbance caused by an altercation.

   No citations were issued and no arrest made.

Disturbance Reported on Burson Rd

   A disturbance, some type of altercation occured on Burson Rd in Burson was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department on September 9, 2012.

   No indication of any arrest or citations was noted.

Traffic Hazard Reported on Hwy 49

   In San Andreas at Angels Road and Hwy49 a traffic hazard was reported at 9:32 AM on September 10, 2012, to CHP. A man is apparently walking on the road towards Angels Camp.

   A CHP unit is enroute to the scene. Use caution in that area until cleared.

Burglary in Campo Seco

   A burglary on Buckboard Ln. in Campo Seco  was reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department on September 9, 2012.

   The burglary had occured when the resident was not at home, and the suspect was no longer at the scene.

Trespassing Reported in Burson

  An apparently ongoing problem with trespassing was reported on Brandy Lane in Burson on September 8, 2012.

   No one was arrested or cited.

9/11 memorial $60 million a year to operate

 
  

Visitors to the National September 11 Memorial in New York walk around its twin pools. With its huge reflecting pools, ringed by waterfalls and skyscrapers, and a cavernous underground museum still under construction, the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center is an awesome spectacle that moved and inspired some 4.5 million visitors in its first year.
