One family lost their home in Rancho Calaveras fire

   June 3, 2013:  The fire in Rancho Calaveras today claimed the home of one family and threatened others. They were able to get out and save their animals.

   CalFire officials say this will be a bad year for fire, as expected.

19 year old swept over Merced Falls

   While swimming in the Merced River at the top of the falls, a 19 year old Citrus Heights an was caught in the current and swept over the falls.

   He had been on a church retreat at Yosemite National Park when the incident occurred. They are searching for his body.

Branch Fire in Los Padres National Forest Update

   After a day of constant aerial  bombardment, the Branch Fire, is now 90% contained at 550 acres.

Supreme Court Allows DNA swabbing

  In a vote of 5-4 the Supreme Court decided that taking a DNA sample is not a violation of people's rights, and it will definitely help solve many crimes.

Smokers cost employerrs much more

    In a new study, researchers reported today, June 3, 2013 that what they say is the first comprehensive look at the issue.

    They found that smokers cost their employers nearly $6000 a year MORE than staff who don't smoke.

  They also took into account that smokers never live as long so they get less pension. It still comes out expensive for employers to hire smokers.  So DON'T!

Traffic Collision in San Andreas

   June 3, 2013:  Two vehicles collided around 4:41 PM in San Andreas at Hwy 49 and Mountain Ranch Rd., a very dangerous intersection.

   It isn't known if there are injuries at this time. CHP is at the scene since their office is just down the street.

Evacuations lifted on Treosti in Rancho Calaveras

   June 3, 2013:  Per the Sheriff's Department evacuations have now been lifted for Rancho Calaveras streets.

Rancho Calaveras Fire Evacuees shelter

   June 3, 2013 at 2:10 PM:  The Calaveras Sheriff's Office just issued a second alert that a shelter is open at the Veterans Hall at 189 Pine Street in Valley Springs for residents evacuated in the Rancho Calaveras Fire.

ALERT!! Mandatory Fire Evacuation in Rancho Calaveras!!!

   June 3, 2013 at 1:25 PM:   The Sheriff's Office has just issued an ALERT that  a mandatory evacuation is ordered due to the grass fire on all residences on Treosti between Bersma and Baldwin in Rancho Calaveras.

     No other details are available at this time.

Reports of Fire in Valley Springs

  June 3, 2013 at 1:15 PM:  Multiple reports have now been made of the fire on Baldwin and Treosti Place in Valley Springs. In addition there is a paint horse running loose, due to the fire.

   Use extra caution in that area. Avoid it if possible. Some streets are being closed off.

Niner's Colin Kaepernick thought he'd be a Raider

   During the NFL draft the Oakland Raiders tried every trick they had up their sleeves to try and get Colin Kaepernick for their quarterback.

  Sorry, Raider, he belongs to us Niners now.  Kaepernick himself has he thought he would end up a Raider.

Condom corner in Assembly?--that's not nice!

      Since Assemblymember Rob Bonta (condoms for prisoners-AB 999) and Isadore Hall's AB 332 (condom's for porn stars) sit near each other in a far left corner of the Assembly Chamber at the state Capitol, that area is now being referred to jokingly as "condom corner".

   On the far right of course, is Tom Aammiano's  AB 336 (condoms as evidence of prostitution).

Illegal burning reported

    June 2, 2013:   The Calaveras Sheriff was called to report someone burning when not allowed; party requested deputy for out of control person will illegal fire to arrest.

   The Sheriff's response or disposition was "no report taken"! Probably a friend of theirs was burning.

Tagging at Park in Valley Springs

   The Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial District reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that the Park on Pine Street in Valley Springs had been tagged.

    The playground, snack bar and other areas of the park all had been vandalized during the night.

Name Calling requires Sheriff at Kiva

    The Calaveras Sheriff was called due to a woman complaining that some ex-friends parents had come up to her at the lake and called her names at Kiva Boat Launch at Tulloch..

   No arrest was made or citation issued.

Explosion and gunfire in Valley Springs

   The Calaveras Sheriff answered a call about gunfire and then an explosion on shadow Lane in Valley Springs on June 2, 2013.

    The party calling could still see the smoke. in a field about 1/4 mile away.  No one was charged or cited in the incident.

LIttering Cited in Arnold

  Apparently a Calaveras Sheriff's deputy noticed someone littering at Georgeann Dr and Patricia Lane in Arnold on June 2, 2013.

   A citation was issued to the alleged litterererer.

Reception for Lori Norton, new Calaveras Admin Chief

   A reception is being held for the new Calaveras Chief Administrative Officer Lori Norton, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 8 AM to 9 AM in the Calaveras Board of Supervisors chambers.

   The public is welcome. If there are free donuts, we know who will be there!!

Jason Lee Taylor arrested in Arnold

   Jason Lee Taylor, address unknown in Arnold, was arrested by Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies at Pine and Hwy 4 in Arnold for alleged Obstruction/ Resisting an Officer, a felony, and for Obstructing a Public Officer and being Under the INfluence of a Controlled Substance, both misdemeanors/

   Taylor was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Dave Cox honored with name on Interchange

   Senator Dave Cox, who before his death was State Senator for Calaveras County, was honored with his name on the Hwy 50 Interchange at Hazel Ave in Sacramento County.

   The new signs says "Sentator Dave Cox Memorial Interchange."

Branch Fire in Los Padres National Forest

     June 3, 2013 at 9 AM:   Since it started on Saturday June 1, 2013  around 5:30 PM, the Branch

Murphy Fire east of Sonora

    On Sunday, June 2, 2013 CalFire responded to a fire reported off of Murphy Rd and Lime Kiln Rd, southeast of Sonora.

   Named the Murphy Fire, it was contained at 150 acres around 6:30 PM yesterday.

Vehicle Engulfed in Flames in Tuolumne

      By the time Fire departments, including CalFire responded to a 1991 GMC pickup fire on Seventh Street in Tuolumne around noon on May 31, 2013, it was fully engulfed in flames.

   A spot of grass and vegetation was also burned. The estimated dollar damage to the vehicle was reported to be $4000. The cause is just listed as "vehicle".

Queen Elizabeth Reigns for 60 years

  Queen Elizabeth's father, King George VI, died in February 1952. Elizabeth was crowned 16 months later at Westminster Abbey.

    She has now held the throne for 60 years.

Powerhouse Fire grows another 5000 acrea

   As of 9 PM on June 2, 2013 the USFS has the Powerhouse Fire at 25,000 acres and growing. It is now 20% contained.
