   A truck lost its load on Hwy 26 at Baldwin in Valley Springs about 2:35 PM.  CHP is en route to the scene.

   It seems that there has been a change of guard at the Copperopolis Town Square. Dave Haley, who used to be the manager in charge of the shopping center, apparently has been relieved of duty.

  We have sent email verification requests and asked for the reasons to the upper level management of Castle and Cooke and have not received a return answer.

   We want to know if this is just taking a portion of his duties at the Saddle Creek facility or if he is being moved to another location. We'll let you know if we get an answer.

Former Indiana State Trooper acquitted....for 3rd time

  A former Indiana State Trooper who has been tried three times for the alleged grisly murder of his wife and two children, has walked free again.

   The Floyd County taxpayers, however, are shackled by the millions it cost to try and convict the man.

Secretary of Defense for Boy Scouts

   Former US Secretary of Defense and CIA Director Robert Gates has been chosen as the next President of the Boy Scouts of America.

New Cigarette Law in New York City

   It seems that last night the New York City Council passed and the Mayor has signed a new law that forbids buying cigarettes if you are under 21 years of age.

    October 28, 2013:   A traffic accident was reported on Main Street in Mokelumne Hill at 2:07 PM. A white Buick and a white GMC collided.

   No injuries were reported. CHP is enroute to the scene.

   On October 26, 2013 at 12:30 AM, parolee Sammy Duran, was taken into custody after a nine-hour standoff with police. The officers are all expected to survive.

Cops shoot 13-year old 3 times....

   On October 22, 2013, in Sonoma County, police shot and killed a 13 year old boy because they thought his pellet gun was an AK 47. The FBI are investigating.

Bart's crabby teacher on "The Simpsons" dies

   The woman who played the redheaded receptionist on "The Bob Newhart Show" and the went on to voice Bart's crabby teacher, Edna Crabappel on "The Simpsons", Marcia Wallace, died October 25, 2013. She was 70.

Two large Shepherd dogs found in Valley Springs

  October 25, 2013:  A resident on Ross Drive in Valley Springs called the Sheriff's office to report that they found 2 large shepherd dogs on their property with choke chains and tags.

   They agreed to keep them until the owners are notified. If you lost your dogs, call Animal Services or the Sheriff's department.

Madison Square Garden got $1 billion makeover

   Madison Square Garden in New York is opening Friday night after  2.6 million man hours and a billion dollars in renovations.

Cardinals win game 2 of World Series

   The St. Louis Cardinals recovered in game 2 and thanks to a couple of Red Sox errors, won the game 4-2. Now the series is tied at 1 and 1.

   Although James Taylor began singing "Oh Beautiful...", he quickly recovered and sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the game.

Valley Springs man arrested

  On October 22, 2013 at around 10 AM Benjamin Samuel Harmon (22) of Valley Springs, was arrested at his residence for allegedly Evading a Police Officer in a Vehicle with disregard for public safety, a felony and for Reckless Driving on the Highway, a misdemeanor.

   Harmon was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by Sheriff's deputies.

Arrest for Battery at Probation Office

   On October 22, 2013 at around noon, a Calaveras Sheriff's deputy arrested Gregory Dean High (23) of Copperopolis for alleged Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, a felony.

   High was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released for time served after 1 day.

Drug Arrest in Arnold

  On October 19, 2013 at around 10:30 PM Mark Norman Dantsche (44) of Avery was arrested at the Meadowmont Shopping Center in Arnold for alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance, a felony, and Controlled Substance Paraphernalia and Providing False ID to officers.

   Dantsche was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by Sheriff's deputies and was released on bond.

Mountain Ranch man arrested

  On October 19, 2013 at around 3:30 PM Anthony Paul Coffaney (32) of Mountain Ranch was arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies at Turner Park in San Andreas for allegedly Inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse or Cohabitant and for Violation of Parole, both felonies.

   Coffaney was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Bret Favre turns down offer of NFL return

   It was well publicized this week that Bret Favre was offered an opportunity to return to the NFL by a team who's quarterback was injured. He is 44.

  Bret Favre has now come out to say that he will not return and that he feels concussions which occurred during his playing years have affected his memory and that he believes many others have had the same experience.

Overturned vehicle on Hwy 26

  October 25, 2013 at 6:30 AM:  An earlier accident on Hwy 26 near Lower Doray Road in Glencoe is being cleared by CHP. One vehicle ended up on its roof.

Traffic Accident in Mokelumne Hill

  October 24, 2013 at 5:55 PM:  CHP is in the clearing stage of an accident that occurred at Hwy 26 and Jesus Maria Road in Mokelumne Hill.

   Ambulances were dispatched for three who were injured in the head on collision. Both lanes were blocked for a while. A tow truck is now hauling at least one of the vehicles away.

Vehicle hit ladder on Hwy 99

   October 24, 2013 at 3PM:  CHP are still at the scene of an accident involving a ladder on Hwy 99 near Hammer Lane in Stockton. No one has been reported injured.

   The vehicles involved are now on the side of the freeway.

Clint Eastwood and wife Dina getting divorce

  At first Dina Eastwood filed for a legal separation last month. Then she withdrew that petition.

  Now she says she is moving forward with getting a divorce from her Oscar winning husband Clint Eastwood. They have one child together.

Firefighting Plane crash caused another fire in Australia

   A plane that was helping to douse some of the 55 wildfires across Australia, crashed into a national park today, killing the pilot and starting another fire in the state of New South Wales.

Former policeman wins workmans comp suit after pepper spray

   One of the former policeman at the University of California who pepper sprayed peaceful students who were protesting was awarding $38,000 in a worker's comp settlement for psychiatric damage.

   He claims he suffered from the 2011 incident, according to the University.

63 AR-15 rifles stolen, four arrested

    63 AR-15 rifles en route from  Connecticut to a shipping facility in Shreveport, Louisiana earlier this month were stolen.

   Now Caddo Parish Sheriff's office says they've arrested 4 men in connection with the theft.

Benefits to being a Kennedy...

  After serving 10 years in prison for the 1975 murder of teenager Martha Moxley, Michael Skakel, a Kennedy cousin, was granted a new trial by a judge today.

  He could be released on bail as early as Thursday.

Gunfire at Tennessee Naval Base

   Three National Guardsmen got into an argument and it led to two of the men being shot in Tennessee. The Naval Base has been shut down.

   The two wounded men are expected to survive.

5 year old shoots himself

   While a teenage babysitter in Texas was napping, the 5 year old she was supposed to be taking care of, found her gun on the coffee table and shot himself with it.

   The babysitter was arrested. After discovering the body of the 5 year old, she carried the 5 month old who she was also watching to the grandparents home to call for help.

Blake Shelton knows how to get winners

   During the Voice blind auditions, Blake Shelton really wanted one country singer to pick him, so he brought out three reasons and set them on his podium.

   They were the three trophies he has won by coaching the winner of the Voice for three years. It worked. The singer picked him.

All Burning is suspended, per CalFIre

   CalFire was called to the 1400 block of Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat on October 18, 2013 for a debris burn that escaped.

  About 1 1/2 acres of woodlands was burned before being extinguished.  CalFire reminds everyone that all burning is prohibited until further notice.

Generator causes fire in Mountain Ranch

     On October 22, 2013 about 5 PM CalFire responded to a fire in the 8900 block of Avenue A in Mountain Ranch.

   About a 10' x 10' spot of grass was burned before being extinguished. A portable generator had caught fire, causing the grass fire.

Jerky treats for dogs can poison

   Apparently many pets have now died as a result of eating a jerky treat made in China. An investigation is ongoing.

  If your pet becomes ill after eating a jerky type treat, you need to notify your vet and make sure the vet notifies the government.

Traffic Accident in Lodi kills 5

   October 23, 2013:  According to authorities, a white SUV was seen driving nearly 100 miles an hour before a multi-vehicle crash at Ham and Vine in Lodi last night.

   A young child and a pregnant woman were among those killed. 14 others are hospitalized. CHP and Lodi Police spent most of the night investigating this crash.

CalFire Chief arrested in drug sting

   Roseville Police conducted a drug sting and one of the people caught in it was Ray Wright, a CalFire Chief, who is over two stations in the Roseville area.

   Wright is alleged to have been transporting methamphetamine, according to authorities. Daniel Berlant, spokesman for CalFire said that Wright is off work on paid time earned since his arrest.

Unemployment down to 7.2% nationwide

   148,000  jobs were added in September, and unemployment is down to 7.2% nationwide. You must be willing to leave Calaveras County to get a job. For some young people, it takes a lot of courage.

   UPDATE at 1 PM:  This accident is a major injury accident per CHP. Two vehicles were over the side of the embankment after the collision. Tow trucks are now enroute.

Two killed on BART tracks

   Two men were hit and killed by a BART train over the weekend.  One was an employee who had crossed the picket lines.

   The other was apparently a contract engineer for BART. The trains are being operated by management and this one, it has been said, was set to run by computer at the time of the incident.

6 Million young people not working

   October 20, 2013:  A traffic accident was reported on Deer Field Circle in Copperopolis around 4:15 PM.  No injuries were reported.

White Pickup Spins out at Hwy 99 and Farmington Rd exit

   October 20, 2013 at 11:54 AM:  A traffic accident involving a white pickup spinning out on Hwy 99 at Farmington Rd exit in Stockton.

  There is also an accident involving a red Focus at Main and the Hwy 99 Frontage Rd. An ambulance is enroute.

   It appears that JP Morgan Chase may escape criminal charges and the investigation may be dropped, since Jamie Dimon met with the US Attorney General.

   Apparently the get off the hook if they pay $13 billion in settlement fees involving the mortgage securities litigation.

Virginians came to see HIllary

   The concert hall was billed as a Terry McAuliffe campaign event, but the northern Virginia town of Falls Church had a large crowd for another reason.

   They had heard that Hillary Clinton would be present at the event.

Clown kills drug trafficker

   Apparently a gunman who dressed up in a clown costume was able to get close enough to and shot and killed the oldest brother of one of Mexico's most notorious drug trafficking families.

   This happened in the resort town of Los Cabos, according to authorities October 19, 2013.

   October 20, 2013 at 8:50 AM:  Parties were just transported to the emergency room for lacerations after a Taco truck and a red Chevy Silverado crashed on Hwy 4 at Jack Tone Road below Farmington.

   Three CHP at the scene are now clearing the area and investigating.

   October 18, 2013 at 4:45 PM:  An injured deer has been reported on Hwy 49 near Donlen's Nursery just outside in Angels Camp.

   CHP is enroute as cars are swerving to miss the injured animal.

Traffic Accident in San Andreas

   October 18, 2013 at 3:15 PM:  CHP are still at the scene of an accident on Hwy 12  near the Pioneer Cemetery, just west of Hwy 49 in San Andreas. No injuries have been reported.

   A truck and a small sedan were involved. One vehicle is blocking the roadway.

Burson Grandmother held in Calaveras County Jail

   Charity Ford, the Burson grandmother who is alleged to have shot and killed her husband and to have wounded her granddaughter is being held on $1.75 million bail.

   Sheriff Kuntz has used this sad event to campaign for his re-election for Sheriff next year. He appeared on a local television news program.  Will this investigation be botched by him, too, as many feel the last family murder case was?

Vehicle hits tree near Hogan Dam

   October 18, 2013 at 8 AM:  An abandoned vehicle was reported to CHP this morning that had hit a tree about 20 feet from the roadway at Campbell Ct and Eberhardt Drive in Valley Springs.

  There were apparently no injuries and the car was locked up. This was near Hogan Dam.

   October 17, 2013 at 4:57 PM:  A traffic accident has been reported at Hwy 26 and the Campo Seco Turnpike in Mokelumne Hill.

   CHP is enroute. It isn't yet known if there are injuries.

Fire on Stallion Way in Angels Camp

   UPDATE:  According to Cal Fire, at 12:07 PM October 17, 2013 they responded to a report of a grass  fire in the 3300 block of Stallion Way, between Angels Camp and Copperopolis, off Hwy 4.

   Caused by a worker grinding supports for a radio tower, a 1/2 acre fire in brush and grass was burned before 7 units, including an air tanker brought the fire under control.

  October 17, 2013 at 12:15 PM:  A fire was just reported on Stallion Way, up on the hill, in Angels Camp. Emergency personnel have been dispatched to the area.

   October 17, 2013 at  2:10 PM:   A white Jeep that hit a barricade at 11:40 AM on I-5 near the 8th street offramp in Stockton has proved fatal for one in the Jeep, after being ejected.  The Jeep ended up on its side, blocking lane three.

   CHP is still in the clearing stages after having to close the Downing onramp for 2 hours. A tow truck now has the vehicle and the road is being cleared.

New Pew Research Poll Numbers-- Anti-Incumbents

   According to the most recent Pew Research polls, nearly three quarters (75%) of registered voters would like to see most members of Congress defeated in the next midterm election.

   In another question, of whether they would like for their own representative not to be reelected the percentage stayed at 38%, the same as it has been for decades.  This poll was taken before the government shutdown.

Fire reported on Hwy 12 in Lockeford

  October 15, 2013 at 2:38 PM:   A fire has been reported on Hwy 12 in Lockeford. Emergency vehicles are enroute to the scene.

   The grass fire is actually on the east side of Hwy 88, according to witnesses.

Angels Camp man arrested

   On October 11, 2013 at around 5 PM Calaveras Sheriff's Deputies arrested Deameatri Alwin Johns (34)  of Angels Camp, in San Andreas on St. Charles Street.

   Johns was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Infliction of Corporal injury on a Spouse, Threatening a Crime with the Intent to Terrorize, Kidnapping and Attemped Kidnapping, all felonies.

Appreciation Mixer at Fairgrounds

   The Calaveras County Fair is announcing that on October 18, 2013 they are holding a Volunteer - Staff Appreciation Mixer at the Ranch House. Beverages will be provided, please bring an appetizer to share from 5 to 7 PM.

Ice Skating rink good for one season

   The Rockefeller Center opened its Ice Rink today for the holiday season.  It was created to last just one season.

   That was in 1936 when it was supposed to be a temporary attraction. Today is its 77th season debut and tourists from all over the world are attracted to the Rink.

Owl found trapped in tree

   A Calaveras Sheriff's deputy attempted to come to the assistance of a resident on Siegel Street in Valley Springs on Saturday October 12, 2013 around 10 AM.

   A large owl appeared to be trapped and tangled in a chain in the oak tree. A raptor rescue organization was called for assistance. We aren't sure of the outcome, but will try and find out.

Hwy 88 traffic accident with fatality

  October 12, 2013:  At around 10:30 AM a solo vehicle crashed on Hwy 88 near Cooks Station in El Dorado County. An ambulance and serveral CHP units were sent to the scene, but the injured party did not survive the crash.

  Also investigators came to take photos of details involving accident, and a Caltrans supervisor was requested.

   October 11, 2013 at 4:05 PM:  A resident on Warren Road in Jenny Lind complained that there is shooting going on nearby and they shouldn't have to listen to the excessive noise.

   No report was taken because the Sheriff decides what is right and what is wrong in Calaveras County, not the law.

Arrest made over belongings following a towed vehicle

   October 11, 2013:  At around 3:35 PM a disturbance that began on Hogan Dam Road in Valley Springs after a vehicle was towed, when a woman allegedly tried to ram Sam Berri vehicles in an effort to gain access to her belongings.

   Apparently the arrest took place at the Sam Berry yard.

Arrest at cemetery in San Andreas

   On October 11, 2013 at around 2:10 PM two people were reportedly yelling at each other and walking towards the cemetery in San Andreas.

Explosion Reported in Valley Springs

  October 11, 2013:  At around 2 PM a small explosion was reported by a resident at Blair Drive at Ross Drive in Valley Springs, with smoke rising behind their home.

   A disturbance was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff on Arrowhead Street in Copperopolis at around 11:55 AM on October 11, 2013.

   An altercation was occurring over dogs and chickens. The deputy apparently counseled the parties and took no report.

   October 11, 2013:  A Calaveras Sheriff's deputy responded to a vacant house on Indian Creek Drive in Jenny Lind to find two women occupying the house.

   Apparently, the deputy asked the women to leave and they did, so no report was taken.

" Who's that sleeping in my bed?"

   October 12, 2013:  The Calaveras Sheriff's Office received a call from a resident at  the Black Bart Inn on St. Charles Street in San Andreas, that he returned to find an unknown female (not Goldilocks) had broken into his room and was still sleeping in his bed.

   Trespassing was reported. The Sheriff took no report on the incident.

Murphys Sanitary District meets October....

   On Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 6 PM the Murphys Sanitary District Board meets for their regular board meeting.   It will be held at 90 Big Trees Rd in Murphys, Ste B.

   There is an agenda item to approve requesting $2 million from a grant, and a Closed Session item involving employee discipline. No other details are known at this time. There is one other item on the agenda involving a sewer hookup without a permit.
 

South Dakota loses thousands of head of cattle

   Due to the unexpected blizzard which hit the Black Hills of South Dakota yesterday, more than 20,000 head of cattle may have been killed.

   Some even thought the number could reach 75,000 head of cattle by final count.

Controversial cleanup: Arlington graves stripped of momentos

   In Section 60 of the Arlington National Cemetery, a new policy is now being enforced, forbidding the placing of personal mementos on graves on fallen soldiers.

   This section is where 800 Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers happen to lie. There is quite a bit of controversy surrounding the new rule and the personal mementos are nowhere to be found.

  

Undercover Cop Arrested with Bikers

   As a video appeared which showed an undercover cop partaking in the attack on the young couple in New York last week, he tried to tell his boss he was afraid he'd blow his cover.

   That the department alleges is that the cop crossed the line between an undercover cop and a bad biker in that incident.  Everything seems to be on video these days, and it's a good thing.

   October 8, 2013:  Although authorities have confirmed that the outbreak of salmonella has been located at Foster Farms Chicken  locations in California, they say you don't have to return the chicken you bought.

   Now officials say that if you cook it thoroughly, you will escape any ill effects from the salmonella as thorough cooking kills the bacteria.

Prince George gets his own Royal Coin

   10-week old Prince George of Cambridge will be receiving a royal coin in his honor for his christening on October 23, 2013.

   The cost of the coin is between $20 and $80 thousand and is the first official commemorative coin for the child.

God and Queen removed from British Scout Oath

   After 106 years, in Britain, the National Scouting association has rewritten the Scout promise to say "...I will do my best to uphold the Scout values," instead of to "God and Queen."

   Families will still have the choice of using the old oath if they so choose. We haven't heard anything about changes to the Scouts promise here in the States.

    October 8, 2013:   A milk tanker truck and a grey Ford Escape reportedly collided about 9:15 AM on Hwy 99 just north of Farmington Rd (Hwy 4) offramp. CHP is responding.

   The Sandra Bullock/George Clooney space movie "Gravity" was way at the top of the box office for record earnings this weekend.

  The movie earned $55.5 million in North American, the biggest for the stars and for October openings, according to the industry trackers.

Four bikers now in custody

   After a high-speed chase which apparently and allegedly ended in an assault on a New York family's  SUV, now four bikers are in custody after reviewing the videos and asking for help from the public.

Camp Pendleton Fire at 2500 acres

    October 7, 2013:   The weather cooled a bit as fire crews fight the wildfire at Camp Pendleton in San Diego this weekend.

   So far the fire has burned 2500 acres.

Olympic Torch goes out!

Wagon Trail Project Open House

    The Calaveras County Department of Public Works is holding an Open House on the Wagon Trail Realignment project at Bret Harte High School on October 24, 2013 from 6 PM to 8 PM.

   The Public Works department will be looking for input and answering questions about the environmentas review process.

Airport closed after airtanker incident

      According to CalFire, around 5:40 PM on October 4, 2013 a CalFire Airtaker was damaged during a landing at the Hemet Ryan Air Attack Base in Riverside County.

   The aircraft, a Gruman S-2T sustained damage, but the pilot was not injured. NTSB is investigating the incident.

Traffic Accident at Camp Connell

   UPDATE:  Two victims were flown to Doctor's Hospital in Modesto.

    October 6, 2013:  At 12:54 PM CHP received a call and is now enroute to a traffic accident on Hwy 4 at the Camp Connell Store in Camp Connell.

   An ambulance has been dispatched due to injuries. An All Terrain Vehicle is involved in the accident.

   Nicholas Oresko, a former US Army Master Sergeant, who served during WWII, died at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey, officials announced Saturday, October 5, 2013.

   Oresko was the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient in the nation.

Car hits fruit stand

   October 5, 2013:  At 1:38 PM CHP was notified that a vehicle had run into the fruit stand at Hwy 4 and Jack Tone Road.

  CHP is enroute to the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Rim Fire now 95% contained

   October 5, 2013:   The Tuolumne County Rim Fire, which destroyed 257,135 acres or 402 square miles and has cost $127 million so far, is now 95% contained.

  11 residences, 3 commercial buildings and 98 outbuildings were also destroyed. According to USFS there is still a 1000 acre pocket where fire continues to burn.

Murphys Woman arrested

   Rebecca Lynn Smith (44) of Murphys, was arrested at Avery Middle School on October 2, 2013 for alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance and Child Cruelty with the possibility of injury or death, both felonies and for being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance and Driving under the Influence, both misdemeanors.

   Smith was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by Sheriff's deputies.

David Letterman longest late night host

  David Letterman, now 66, is the longest late night television host, with 31 years behind him. He just signed a new contract to stay through part of 2015.

   Since his quintuple by-pass 13 years ago, Letterman has remained relatively healthy. No details of the contract extension have been released.

Sonora Man arrested in Copperopolis

    On October 3, 2013 David Richard Paul (55) of Sonora was arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies on Spangler in Copperopolis for alleged 2nd Degree Burglary and Obtaining Controlled Substance through Fraud, both felonies.

   Paul was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and then released pre-trial because of lack of space.

  

Washington DC has series of violent acts

   In the past week and a half, there was a mass shooting at the Naval yard, the shooting and killing of a mother near the White House, and a man setting himself on fire and now in critical condition near a DC museum.

   Does the government shutdown have anything to do with any of the increased violence in the area. Some say yes, others say it's just a coincidence.

Roseanne Barr gets mad....

    After she heard another one of her jokes on "Two and a Half Men", Roseanne Barr got angry and wrote things on twitter about how Chuck Lorre and Ashton Kutcher stole one of her old jokes.

    It was nearly word for word except that she wrote it about old women and Lorre wrote in into a script about old men. We haven't heard if she's getting a lawyer.

Lockheed Martin laying off workers

  October 5, 2013:   Due to the government shutdown, Lockheed Martin said yesterday that it will furlough 3000 workers on Monday, joining other large companies with defense contracts.

House approves back pay to furloughed federal workers

  October 5, 2013:   This morning the House of Representatives, all 407 of them, voted to provide retro-active pay to furloughed federal workers after the government shutdown ends.

  This means that those 800,000 workers who were sent home without pay when the Republicans shut down the government are actually on an extra paid vacation. Now there's fiscal responsibility for you!

    In Japan, the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant has suffered yet another leak, this time spilling out 430 liters of contaminated water.

   This is thousands of times more radioactive than any legal limits, according the its operator.

    While the jury, who heard testimony for months in the wrongful death suit of Michael Jackson's family, found that AEG was responsible for hiring Conrad Murray, they found that AEG was not liable for Jackson's death.
