  Lynne Ray Lowery was a California native, born on December 4, 1946. She passed away at her residence in Murphys on February 10, 2014.

Dawn Hartwig of Angels Camp passed away due to a traffic accident on February 6, 2014 at Sonora Regional Medical Center in Sonora.

Zoos coming under scrutiny

   It seems that this week zoos all over the world are coming under more scrutiny, after one zoo shot
and fed an unwanted 2 year old giraffe to its lions.

   Apparently yesterday a polar bear in Germany died after eating a purse and coat that had fallen into its enclosure. A common problem, many animals have died of obstructions after eating items that fell from visitors hands or feet.

Valentine's Day is Friday

Extinct Olympic Winter Sport

   Some may remember an Olympic competition sport called Downhill Speed Skiing, where skiers could reach speeds of over 100 MPH during the run.

   It was banned after a 1992 skier crashed and died at high speed.

Corvettes sink into the earth

   At the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a gigantic sinkhole opened up beneath the building and swallowed eight vintage Corvettes that were on display there.

West Virginia hit with Coal Slurry Spill

   February 12, 2014:  Just after West Virginia believes it cleaned up a serious chemical spill, not a coal slurry spill of possibly 100,000 gallons is polluting their water.

Shaun White comes in 4th

   Nearly everyone's favorite Snowboarder, Shaun White, came in 4th yesterday in the half-pipe competitions at the Sochi Olympics.

   His board actually come down on the edge of the top of the pipe in his final run. Some are saying its because he cut off his lucky red hair.

Boy Scouts still ban gay leaders

   Although the Boy Scouts of America voted to open their groups to openly gay boys, they are still not allowing any adult gays to be leaders.

 The group just recently awarded the first openly gay scout the rank of Eagle Scout.

Two Koreas hold talks

   Very interesting that North and South Koreas are holding closed-door talks in Panmunjom. No word has been relayed to the press of what its about so far.

Calaveras Supervisor Chair Ponte encourages Disgusting Campaigning at meetings?

  At the February 11, 2014 Board of Supervisors meeting, Chair Ponte, who gets an extra $1000 per month for being chair, encouraged campaigning for election.

   The current Sheriff was allowed to go on and on about something wonderful he thought he had done in the past while he was supposed to be praising others, and Ponte did nothing to stop it. Disgusting!!
