ATV accident on Cave City Road

   August 31, 2014 at 6 PM:   CHP is now at the scene of an ATV accident on private property at Michel and Cave City Rd in San Andreas.

    An ambulance was dispatched. The injured was apparently drug to the main road for help.

Animals on Independence Rd in Mokelumne Hill

   August 31, 2014 at 12:05 PM: We aren't sure what animals are out on Independence Road in Mokelumne Hill, but someone called CHP and said that her husband had tried to chase them out of the roadway.

   Use extra caution if headed in that direction.

Rubber raft on Hwy 99 at Hammer Lane

   August 31, 2014 at 9:55 AM:  A rubber raft has been reported in the roadway at Hwy 99 and Hammer Lane in Stockton.

Calaveras sheriff's deputy searches wrong house?

   August 31, 2014 at 10:05 AM:  A dispatcher at the Calaveras Sheriff's Office reported that he had done a security check for weapons on the blue house behind Treats.

   The dispatcher said he was supposed to be at the house behind Napa Auto Parts. The deputy paused and then responded 10-4. Why did this happen?  Were the people in the house behind Treats upset?

Fatal Traffic Crash in Newman

   August 31, 2014: CHP were still at the scene of a fatal traffic accident that occurred around 7:15 PM last night, investigating until 3 AM today near I-5 and Stuhr Road in Newman.

   Witnesses reported seeing a pickup going at a high rate of speed before it crashed and overturned, ejecting one person.  Others were taken to hospitals with injuries, but one was fatally injured in this crash.

Car Fire on Milton Road

   August 31, 2014 at 6:30 AM:  A pickup was reported on fire on Milton Rd around 5 AM. A witness said they saw another vehicle that appeared to be fleeing the scene.

   Fire personnel reported to the scene and a tow truck was dispatched at 6 AM.

Traffic Accident at Camanche

   August 30, 2014 at 7:30 PM:  CHP was called to a traffic accident at Lake Camanche. An ambulance was also sent to the scene.

   This was possibly involving some campers, but we aren't sure yet.

Car in ditch in Pioneer

  August 30, 2014 at 7:25 AM:  CHP is en route to the scene of a vehicle that ran into a ditch on Silver Drive, near Hwy 88 in Pioneer.

  It isn't known yet if there are any injuries.

Overturned car at 99 and 120 in Manteca

  A traffic accident has been reported at 99 and Hwy 120 in Manteca. CHP is en route to the scene.

   One vehicle is on its roof at this time. An ambulance is also responding.

Car hits tree near Pardee

   August 30, 2014 at 5:11 AM:  A car reportedly hit a tree on Campo Seco Rd at Pardeen Dam Road.   CHP is en route to the scene.

   The car may have been abandoned. A tow truck will be required.

Casa Fire near Gilroy

   Called the Casa Fire, a fire at Casa de Fruita near Gilroy was 80 acres as of  9:40 PM on August 29, 2014.

   The fire was 65% contained at that time.

   Believe it or not a brown horse with white spots and PINK blinders is running on Hwy 88 at Harney Lane in Lodi, according to a caller.

   CHP has been dispatched to the location.

   August 29, 2014 at 7:30 PM:  A fire has been reported at Orange Blossom and Rodden Road in Oakdale.

   Cal Fire is responding to the area.

   UPDATE:  The fire is apparently out. Fire personnel are cancelled.

Inured fawn in Copperopolis

   August 29, 2014 at 7 PM:  An injured fawn is reportedly on the side of the road at Teton Ct and Arrowhead Street in Copperopolis.

   CHP is en route. The doe is standing nearby the fawn.

Black Calf in road in Valley Springs

   August 29, 2014 at 5:30 PM:   A black calf is out on Burson Road and Warren Road in Valley Springs.

   CHP has been notified and is en route. Use extra caution in that area.

Large tree blocking Hwy 26

  August 29, 2014 at 4 PM:  A large tree that fell on Hwy 26 at Ridge Rd in the Railroad Flat area has blocked CUSD school buses which cannot turn around.

   A crew has been sent out to remove the tree, but the road is completely blocked at this time.

Traffic collision in Twain Harte

   UPDATE:  Fire crew just arrived. One vehicle is off the road. No injuries are reported.

Joan Rivers in Serious condition

   Joan Rivers is currently in a medically induced coma following complications while having an edoscopy for throat surgery in her doctors office.

   Her daughter says she is in serious, but stable condition. She is 81.

   The Ferguson Police lieutenant who was suspended for pointing a gun at protestors, has resigned.

Fire near Toyon School

   UPDATE at 12:22 PM:  The roadway is now open.

    UPDATE at 11:35 AM:  One lane is being closed as CalFire investigates the cause of this fire.

Roadway Flooded in Columbia

   August 29, 2014 at 10:15 AM:  It has been reported to CHP that the roadway is flooded at Parrotts Ferry Rd and Marble Quarry Road in Columbia.

   County of Tuolumne has been notified. Use caution if headed to that area.

Power lines down near Phoenix Lake

   August 29, 2014 at 10 AM:  Power lines were just reported down on the roadway on Phoenix Lake Road in Sonora.

   Cal Fire and PG&E are en route to the area.

Pig caught running in Modesto

   August 29, 2014 at 9 AM:  The pig that had been reported running loose at Hwy 108 and McHenry around 6:45 AM in Modesto has been caught by a Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputy.

    It will be turned over to animal control.

Sheriff called over verbal argument about money

   On August 28, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff was called to a residence on Hwy 12 in San Andreas, where there was a disturbance; a father and son were fighting over money.

   Indications were that parties has been drinking. It was not known if there were any weapons at the location. No report was taken on the incident.

Singing Worker at Arnold Athletic Club

   On August 28, 2014 around 7 PM a resident called the Calaveras Sheriff to report that a male was singing at the top of his lungs inside the Arnold Athletic Club which is being remodeled.

   No report was taken by the Sheriff. At least there is one happy construction worker in Arnold.

Disturbance on Hwy 4 in Arnold

   On August 28, 2014 a person called the Sheriff to report that a couple at the Giant Burger in Arnold was having a verbal argument and walking down Hwy 4.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report on the incident.

Multiple cars and activity reported at Arnold residence

   A resident on Stephanie Drive in Arnold reported to the Sheriff on August 28, 2014 that suspicious activity could be taking place at another residence.

   The party reported that multiple cars and traffic in and out of the residence. The Sheriff took NO report.

Paloma man arrested

  On August 28, 2014 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested William Andrew Pratt (37) of Paloma at his home for alleged  outstanding warrants for alleged Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Receiving Stolen Property over $400, both felonies and for Possession of Fireworks without a Permit, a misdemeanor.

   Pratt was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

San Andreas woman arrested

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff, on August 28, 2014 Rebecca Lee Boriolo (43) of San Andreas was arrested at her home for alleged Violation of terms of Alternative Sentencing, a felony.

   Boriolo was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

No fire last night in Meadowmont?

   We had many scared people ask us what was going on in Meadowmont last night around 7:30 PM, so we called Ebbetts Pass Fire.

  Per Ron at the District, he said it was only a training exercise. We got reports that every truck, ambulance, water tender, etc. was out there.  Might have been nice if they notified the public. 

Fire in Oakdale

   August 29, 2014 at 8:02 AM:  A fire has been reported on Rodden Road and Rancheria Drive in Oakdale, on the river side of the roadway.

   Fire personnel have been dispatched to the area.  Please be careful this weekend. We don't need any more fires.

Overturned vehicle into grapevines

   UPDATE:  A tow truck has been called. The roadway will have to be closed to get the vehicle out of the grapevines, around 75' off the road.

Labor Day Weekend starting off HOT!

   August 29, 2014: CHP received a report of something on fire IN THE LANES on I205 near Tracy Blvd. in Tracy at 7:42 AM.

    A CHP unit is en route and the fire department has been dispatched. Looks like Labor Day Weekend may be a HOT one!

Angels Camp City Council meets

  On September 2, 2014 at 6 PM the Angels Camp City Council will meet at the Firehouse at 6 PM following Closed Sessions with Labor Negotiator and the lawsuit about Greenhorn Creek.

   The 2014-15 budget is on the agenda for approval, the one we felt was absolutely ridiculous, as the budget was compared with a golf game by Mr. McHatten.

Motorcycle accident in Jackson

   August 28, 2014 at 6:30 AM:  A motorcycle accident was reported at Hwy 88 and Ridge Road in Jackson.

   Several people stopped to try and help the rider, who was down on the road. An ambulance was dispatched. Two CHP units are on scene.

Plastic bag ban brought back

   After yesterday's failure of the plastic bag ban in the Assembly, backers were allowed to bring it back to the Assembly floor today. And it passed and is headed for the Governors desk.

   Does this mean that they used "gut and amend" to add something to this bill so that it would pass with only 3 days left in the session? Sure sounds like it.

Sierra MacIntosh Users Group meets

      On September 9, 2014 the Sierra MacIntosh Users Group meets at the Ebbetts Pass Fire District on Blagen Road in Arnold. The public is invited.

McClintock sticks with most important--Impeachment!!

   Although Congressman McClintock, who really lives in the LA area, and has NO residence in the District he is supposed to represent talks anti-immigration a lot to his Tea Party supporters, his main message is IMPEACHMENT of the President.

   The only people showing up at his campaign functions are the dwindling number of Tea Partiers, so he has a peanut gallery all to himself.

"Gut and Amend?"

   The California state legislature is in the last few days of its session. Now the policy they adopted to get bills through in a hurry is applied.

   For example, the Silver Lake Reservoir bill just had "guns" added to it. Without any legislative oversight it will be brought to the floor.

    It says that all guns turned in to authorities must be completely tested for having been used in crimes before they can be melted down.  Amazing! "Gut and Amend"

   Senator Lois Wolk of Davis is trying to end this policy, making it necessary for all bills to be in print for at least 3 days before action can be taken on the floor.

California Plastic Bag Ban loses

   By three votes, the ban on plastic bags failed to pass in the Assembly on Monday. A manufacturer had distributed a letter supposedly stating Latinos would suffer.

   Some Assemblymen apparently thought it might be true and it failed.

California's Film Industry gets boost

   Due to intense lobbying on the part of Hollywood, it looks as if the film tax credit will increase from $100 million to at least $330 million.

   The producers are actually hoping it will go to $400 million.  The governor does not want them to start moving out of the state.

Does Calaveras have Military vehicle?

   The City Council in Davis has given the Police Department 60 days to get rid of the mine-resistant military armored vehicle.

   We heard a rumor that Calaveras Sheriff Kuntz said "I want it, Mommy. I want it!!!"

Beer bottle broke cars' windshield

   August 28, 2014 at Noon:  CHP received a call that a tow truck that dropped a beer bottle hit and broke their vehicle's windshield in front of McDonalds in Martell on Hwy 49.

Traffic Accident at 99 and Hwy 4

   August 28, 2014 at 11:30 AM:  Three CHP are at the scene of a traffic collision at 99 and Hwy 4 in Stockton, where a Toyota hit a tree.

   An ambulance is en route due to major injuries. Use extra caution if headed to that area.

Jenny Lind Fire Department employee arrested

   The secretary of the Jenny Lind Fire Department was arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's Deputies on August 28, 2014 for allegedly Embezzling funds from a Public Agency, a felony.

   Elizabeth Donna Hughes (49) of Valley Springs  was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on a local warrant.

   It is apparently official. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got married in a French vineyard on Saturday after 9 years and not sure how many adopted children later.

   We knew you all were dying to hear about this wedding.

   We just learned of a report from Kenya that between 2010 and 2012 over 100,000 elephants were killed for the ivory the carry.

   Apparently China is one of the countries still using ivory for many items and they are paying a fortune for it, causing the death rate to climb significantly.

Charlie Crist will face Florida Governor Scott in November

    Now a Democrat, former Florida Governor Charlie Crist was chosen by the voters yesterday in their primary, to face the current Republican Governor Scott in November.

   Could be an interesting election.

CHP out in force over Labor Day Weekend

   CHP considers Labor Day Weekend to be a Maximum Enforcement Period. They will have extra patrol cars and will be watching for DUI's and unsafe speeds.

   Have fun this weekend, but drive carefully without drinking or drugging first.

Vehicle rolls several times

   August 27, 2014:  Several CHP are still at the scene of a solo accident at Hwy 99 and Liberty Rd where a vehicle lost control and rolled over several times near Lodi.

   An ambulance was dispatched to the scene for injuries.

Teen Driving Class in Murphys

   On September 17, 2014 CHP will host a driving class for teens between 15 and 20.  It will be held at the Murphys Fire Station from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.

   For various sums of money, you can ride the giant truck, eat a burger, and shoot machine guns. This is a great tourist attraction?

  The nine year old who shot and killed the man who was helping her, wasn't even old enough by the Burgers and Bullets joints own rules.  But everyone knows American needs more BABY RAMBOS!

   On August 26, 2014 a burglary was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office by a resident on Wood Chip Circle.

Forest Meadows man arrested

   On August 26, 2014 CHP arrested Jeremiah, Steven Ridley of Forest Meadows on Sugarbush for allegedly Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor and for an outstanding local warrant.

   Ridley was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by Sheriff's deputies.

Traffic Accident on Hwy 4 in Murphys

   August 27, 2014 at 8:25 PM:   A vehicle has run off the road and rolled into a ditch on Hwy 4 near Big Trees and Tom Bell Road in Murphys. Emergency vehicles are at the scene now.

   Driver is refusing treatment for minor injuries.

Buger KIng moves to Canada

   After buying Tim Horton, a Candadian donut maker, Burger King will move its corporate offices to Canada.

   There are a few calling this unpatriotic and called for a boycott, but this appears to be simply a business decision to us.

Dead deer on Hwy 4

   August 27, 2014 at 6 AM:  A dead deer has been reported in the middle of Hwy 4 near the Vallecito Bypass in Vallecito.  CHP has referred this to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

   Brad Jennings passed away on August 22, 2014 of natural causes. He was 50 years old.

Injured deer on Ridge Road

   August 26, 2014 at 5:50 PM:  An injured deer has been reported to CHP at Ridge Road and Tanyard Hill Road in Pine Grove.

Solo overturned vehicle down embankment

   CHP is having a busy evening.

  August 26, 2014 at 5:40 PM:  A vehicle was just reported to CHP as rolling down an embankment off the roadway at Oakdale Rd and Lee Road in Ballico.

Fire at Bass Lake

   UPDATE August 27, 2014 at 6 AM:  The last report on this fire was 6 PM last night, when the fire was listed at 15 acres in size. It has been named the Pines Fire.

Rollover in Sonora

   UPDATE:  At 5:40 PM:  Tow trucks have been dispatched for the car on its side, and a trailer and car. Fluid is spilled on the roadway.

Watch for Hazard on Hwy 12

   CHP was notified that someone is pulling a trailer without one tire. The rim is sparking on the roadway in the San Andreas area.

   CHP is en route to locate the trailer on Hwy 12 and Hwy 49.

Accident in San Andreas

   August 26, 2014 at 3:50 PM:  A traffic accident was reported on Hwy 49 at Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.

   An ambulance  is en route to the scene due to injuries.  Use extra caution in that area..

Fatal Accident and Fire on Hwy 108

  UPDATE:  This accident has become a fatality. CHP is attempting to clear the Hwy at this time. There is one-way traffic control at this time. Five units are still on scene.

   August 26, 2014 at 1 PM:  Cal Fire has been sent to a reported fire at Santa Fe Drive and Sunny Acres Avenue in Turlock.

Search for Missing Woman in Tuolumne County

   August 26, 2014 at 11:30 AM:  Police continue with search dogs looking for a missing woman in the area of Parrotts Ferry Road and Sawmill Flats Rd in Tuolumne County.

   Use extra caution as traffic control is in effect at that intersection.

Fire on Shell Road near Melones

  UPDATE at 10:40 AM:  This fire has been quickly contained. Air tankers were released.

Oregon Fire near Weaverville

   CalFire reports that the Oregon Fire near Weaverville is now 60% contained. Most of those evacuated have been allowed to return home.

    A moose reportedly walked into a business in Germany yesterday and it took several hours before it was rescued and removed from the cafeteria there.

Park Bench Stolen in Mountain Ranch

   On August 26, 2014 it was reported that the park bench and signs had been taken from a bus stop. The Calaveras Sheriff took the report.

Millenials compain about Emmy winners

  The Emmy Awards host  Seth Meyers was very entertaining, although Jimmy Kimmel stole the show during his brief appearance.

   The younger "millennial" generation was not very happy with many of the winners. While fans of Modern Family were thrilled that they won best comedy, the youth was rooting for the internet based shows instead of TV.

   We thought it hilarious that ex-Supervisor and short-timer Darren Spellman continues to try and drag down the Calaveras Unified School District, who laid him off a few years ago.

   Ester J. Phillips of West Point passed away at her home on August 10, 2014. She was 96.

  It's not yet Halloween, but a residence on Lopes Ct. in Copperopolis was reportedly egged on August 24, 2014.  The vandalism was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff.

   According to a Calaveras Sheriff's report, on August 23, 2014 Benjamin Alan Lee (31) of Wallace was arrested on S. Camanche Parkway and Chile Gulch Rd. for alleged Receiving Stolen Property over $400, a felony and for Petty Theft, a misdemeanor.

   Lee was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released on Bond.

Trailer destroyed in Major Accident

   UPDATE on August 25, 2014:  CHP just released a report on this accident. According to their report, Joyce Moeckli  (57) of Marysville, was driving a Ford pickup, pulling a camp trailer

Esplosive Device found/arrest made

   On August 22, 2014 around 9:20 PM Officer J. Mahaney of Tuolumne County CHP stopped Michael Kevin Kline (32) of Sunnyvale on Mono Way near Hwy 108 for vehicle code violations.

Fire near Weaverville

   August 24, 2014 at 6 AM:  Cal Fire is battling a fire now called the Oregon Fire  about 2 miles from Weaverville, which began around 4:30 PM on August 24, 2014.

   It has now burned 650 acres and is not contained at all. It is spreading at a rapid rate and evacuations are in place in the area.  This is in Trinity County.

   With all the international violence going on, an important vote is taking place in Scotland on September 18, 2014.

   After 300 plus years, Scottish citizens will decide whether to stay a part of Great Britain or to break off and become their own country. We will be watching this one.

Traffic Accident near Spicer Reservoir

  August 24, 2014 at 1:10 PM:  A traffic accident has been reported off Hwy 4 near Spicer Reservoir on the bridge over the Stanislaus River.

   A vehicle is apparently overturned, leaking gas.  An ambulance has been dispatched to the scene.

Black woman Amherst grad shot and killed in parade

   A black woman graduate of Amherst was shot in the head and killed while walking in a parade near Boston.

   Police don't know if she was targeted or if it was unintentional. Her father is begging for the public to come forward with any information.

Three cows on Hwy 88

   A man named Harold Hamm was the 13th child of a sharecropper and now controls Continental Resources, worth a fortune, to say the least.

   His wife has filed for divorce and wants $17 Billion as her share of marital assets, according to documents in the Oklahoma case. No, this one is not in LA. But the wife is an attorney.

Earthquake in Bay Area

     August 24, 2014:  We just learned that the North Bay in the San Francisco area, had a 6.1 earthquake around 3 AM today.

   This is the largest quake on the San Andreas fault since the Loma Prieta quake in 1989.

Traffic Accident on Hwy 4 at Milton Road

   August 23, 2014 at 2 PM:   CHP has been dispatched to Hwy 4 and Milton Road for a traffic accident reported.

   It is unknown at this time if there are injuries.

Hit and Run on Camanche Parkway

    August 23, 2014 at 1:45 PM:   A red Honda and a Chevy Avenger collided on Camanche Parkway.  One vehicle took off without stopping.

  One person was injured.  The Amador County Sheriff's Office was called in to investigate and located the other vehicle.

We researched the Oathkeepers

  After hearing that the cop who spoke out was talking to the Oathkeepers organization, we decided to look and see what they are about.

  The first think we saw was that they were the ones protecting the racist Bundy's from what they perceived as the "evil" BLM rangers.  That just about tells it all.

   On the street where Michael Brown was shot and killed by a Ferguson Police Officer who shot him 6 times, is a row of roses.

   Not on the side of the road, but in the middle of the roadway, lined up side by side. There may be over a thousand roses there for Michael Brown.

Another MIssouri cop relieved of duty

  Yesterday, a video surfaced of another officer in Missouri, made at an Oathkeeper meeting, where he ranted about killing and about President Obama being born in Kenya, among other shocking statements.

  It's no wonder so many have lost respect for police across the nation. This officer was put on administrative duty while an investigation takes place. He had 35 years of service.

Traffic Hazard at 99 and LIberty Rd

   August 22, 2014 at 7 PM:  A traffic hazard has been reported in ALL lanes at 99 and Liberty Road.  It isn't clear what the hazard is.

   Use extra caution if heading that way.

Hwy 132 closed near Lake McClure for accident

   August 22, 2014 at 6:51 PM:  CHP is still trying to clear the traffic from a 5 PM accident on Hwy 132 near Lake McClure and Horseshoe Bend.

   The accident was on a bad curve and the had to call an air ambulance to take injured, as the road was block both ways. Even the tow trucks couldn't get in.  Caltrans was called in to make repairs caused by the accident.

Accident in front of the hospital? How convenient!

   August 22, 2014 at 6:04 PM:  A traffic collision was reported at 1000 Greenley Drive, the address of the Sonora Regional Medical Center.

   You can't get more convenient than that. Fortunately injuries were minor in nature.

Fourteen traffic incidents in our area

   It must be Friday afternoon on one of the last weekends of summer, everyone is driving a little too fast to get home and CHP can't answer calls fast enough.

   Big rigs, rollovers, rear-enders, and car fires; CHP officers are being kept busy tonite. Drive carefully and slow down.  Get where you're going safely.

Big Rig overturned on Hwy 88

   UPDATE:  The roadway is being cleared of debris. Piles of rocks are on the side of the road.

   CHP has not yet indicated was the hazard is, so be careful if in that area.

Fire on Carmelita Lane

  August 22, 2014 at 2:35 PM:  Calaveras Fire District crews were dispatched to a vegetation fire that was just reported on Carmelita Lane in LaGrange.

   All available aircraft at Columbia were also sent to this fire in addition to all available water tenders.

PG & E wire down in Sonora

 August 22, 2014 at 2:20 PM:  A PG&E wire is reportedly down across two lanes at Shaw's Flat Road and Jamestown Rd in Sonora.

     Use extra caution if headed for that area until cleared. PG & E is en route to the scene.

Sonora High students arrested

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff, they have arrested two Sonora High students for their involvement in an alleged sexual assault that occurred on the 600 block of Skyline Drive in Tamarack

New legal shooting range coming in Sonora?

  The Diestel family, who own the Diestel Farms turkey ranch, have applied to start a legal shooting range out on their property on Lyons Bald Mountain Road in Sonora under the name Blind Bull, LC.

   Approval is on the Tuolumne County Planning Commission meeting for September 3, 2014 at 6 PM at the Admin Building on South Green Street in Sonora.  The honorable shooters in this area need another place to target practice, so this is a good thing and will most likely be approved.

Caltrans still working on Hwy 26

   We just received information that Hwy 26 between Paloma Road and Hwy 88 will be striped beginning August 25, 2014 through Thursday August 29, 2014.

   Expect 20 minute delays.

Vandalism reported in Murphys

   On August 21, 2014 vandalism was reported on Hwy 4 in Murphys.  The Calaveras Sheriff took a report.

   It is not clear what the vandalism was.

Squatter at Black Bart Playhouse

   On August 21, 2014 a squatter and trespassing were reported at the Black Bart Playhouse on Algiers Street in Murphys.

   Apparently staying in that area.  No report was taken by the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

Illegal Shooting reported in Forest Meadows

   On August 21, 2014 a resident at Sandalwood and Forest Meadows Drive reported 6 gunshots.

   No report was taken by the Calaveras Sheriff.

Battery reported in Valley Springs

   On August 21, 2014 a driver reported being struck by a thrown object at Hartvickson Lane and Silver Rapids Rd.

    The Sheriff took a report, noting that it is an ongoing dispute between parties.

Theft reported in Copperopolis

   On August 21, 2014 a theft was reported at the Kwik Serv on Feather Drive in Copperopolis.

Hwy 4 work in Ebbetts Pass continues--Expect delays

  Per Caltrans, work on Hwy 4 from Murphys to above Arnold will continue August 25, 2014 through August 30, 2014.

   Allow extra time. One person told us they had to wait for 40 minutes and then today we were told the wait was only 10 minutes.

Traffic Accident in Arnold

  August 22, 2014 at 12:15 PM:  A traffic accident was reported at Blagen Road and Henry Drive in Arnold is now being cleared.

    An ambulance was required due to minor injuries.  County roads was notified that the BIKE ROUTE sign was knocked down.

   UPDATE on August 22, 2014:  According to Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt of Calaveras Sheriff's Department, three high school boys were located and admitted talking to the young girl.

  August 21, 2014 at 10 AM:  A big rig and a vehicle collided on Hwy 132 near Lake Turlock causing a lane to be blocked.

   CHP is at the scene and an ambulance is responding to the accident. A big rig tow truck has been dispatched.

Junction Fire in Oakhust

   The Junction Fire in Oakhurst in now 65% contained, but has destroyed 47 structures in the area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

   Over 612 acres have been burned in the fire.

Illegal Camping at Nielsen Park

  On August 20, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff received a report that people were camping in the podium at Nielsen Park on Main Street in San Andreas.

Bug Spray Theft at Burson Market

   On August 20, 2014 the Burson Market on Hwy 12 called the Calaveras Sheriff to report that a woman had sprayed herself with almost a whole can of bug spray and then put the can back on the shelf.

Vandalism at Calaveras High School

   On August 20, 2014 a report of vandalism was reported due to tires being slashed at Calaveras High School in San Andreas.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report on the incident.

Shoplifter caught in Valley Springs

   On August 20, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office was called to report a Petty Theft shoplifter at the CVS Pharmacy in Valley Springs.

   The shoplifter was cited for Shoplifting.

Arrest for Public Intoxication in San Andreas

   After the Calaveras Sheriff's Office got a call that a male was laying face down on the sidewalk by the Pizza Factory on August 20, 2014 around 1 PM, the person was arrested on St. Charles Street in San Andreas.

   The male was apparently arrested for public intoxication by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies.

Grand Theft--Possible Scam reported in Burson

   On August 20, 2014 a resident on Luna Drive reported a Grand Theft of money and possible scam involving home modification.  The Sheriff took no report.

   Be cautious and check for a Contractors License before giving anyone money for work to be done on your home. Don't get SCAMMED!! There are a lot of out of area contractors in Calaveras County looking for work.

   After threatening to shoot a black man who was protesting in Ferguson on video, a Ferguson police officer was relieved of duty.

Two black labs on Hwy 26

   August 21, 2014 at 5:25 AM:  Two black labs have been reported to CHP running on Hwy 26 near Olive Orchard Road in the Valley Springs area.

   Use caution if headed to that area until cleared.

CHP officer stripped of badge and gun

   The CHP officer who has been widely seen on video allegedly savagely beating a black homeless woman after being laughed at by passing motorists, has been put on administrative leave (with pay) and has had his badge and gun removed from him.

   He still has not, however, been charged with any crime and until that happens, many will suspect law enforcement protects their own, no matter what they do.  The woman's attorney has already filed a Federal Civil Rights violation lawsuit.

   August 20, 2014 at 1:15 PM:  A big rig spilled grapes on the onramp from 120 to 99.  Caltrans has  now cleaned it up and the roadway is reopened.

Coffin found in San Andreas storage container?

   On August 19, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff received a report that an unoccupied coffin was found in a storage locker in an abandoned storage container.

   No report was taken by the Calaveras Sheriff.

Grand Theft in San Andreas?

  On August 19, 2014 a Grand Theft was reported at a business on Main Street in San Andreas, apparently embezzlement.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report. No other details are known at this time.

Public Intoxication at Calaveras Courthouse?

   On August 19, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff was called to report someone was intoxicated at the Calaveras County Courthouse in San Andreas.

   An arrest was made for alleged Public Intoxication.

Headed for Arkansas?

   The Calaveras Sheriff just got a report that there is a man in a cowboy hat on Ospital Rd in Burson who says he is headed for Arkansas.

   Could that be our favorite Sheriff? Someone said he lives out there. Well let you know when we hear.

School traffic has returned

   August 20, 2014:  Although Caltrans seems to be taking the day off today, Bret Harte High and other schools in the Ebbetts Pass corridor have reopened, making traffic more dangerous.

   It took some people over 40 minutes to wait for the Caltrans workers to move one side or the other of traffic yesterday afternoon.  And very treacherous on narrow Hwy 4 above Murphys. Watch for school kids and buses!

Accident on Mono in Sonora

   August 19, 2014 at 5:50 PM:   Emergency vehicles are en route to a traffic accident on Mono Way at Industrial, in front of the Tractor Supply store.

      A blue Toyota and a blue sedan are the vehicles involved in the collision.

Traffic Accident in Jackson

   August 19, 2014 at 5:49 PM:  A traffic accident was reported to CHP at Ridge Road and Raggio Road in Jackson, in front of the winery.

   An ambulance has been dispatched due to injuries and there is debris all over the roadway.

Legislature bans Confederate Flag-flying

   The California State legislature overwhelmingly voted to urge Washington Redskins owner to change the name of the team.

   In a related vote, they banned the Confederate battle flag and other symbols from being displayed or sold on any state property.

Fire in Sonora

   UPDATE at 1:05 PM:  This fire is now contained. The medical building nearby had to be evacuated. Fire personnel are now in mop up mode.

    August 19, 2014:  CalFire is at the scene of a fire reported at Cabuzet Rd and Sylva Lane in Sonora.  It is 2 acres in size at this time and is running alongside a parking lot.

Calaveras County Water District Cancels meeting

       The Calaveras County Water District's Board of Directors regularly scheduled meeting of August 27, 2014, has been cancelled.

    The next regular Board meeting is September 17, 2014 at 9 AM.

Republicans move to Central Valley

   Due to loss of defense jobs and welcoming immigration in Southern California has depleted the Republican Party of a one-time stronghold in areas like Orange County and Long Beach.

   Now, Republicans claim that industrious Democrats, and even WOMEN are popping up and winning offices in those areas once held by Republican MEN.  The Central Valley is about all they have left.

Who steals USED cooking oil?

   Apparently, lots of people steal cooking oil, since it goes for $3 a pound or around $600 a truckload at a recycling center.

   Now used for bio-fuels, it's a greasy situation costing restaurants a lot of money.

Governor debate: Brown vs Kashkari

   Looks like there will be one debate in the Governors race. On September 4, 2014 the two campaigns have agreed to spar on KQED.

  On August 18, 2014 it was reported that plaques had been torn down from walls and scattered around Calaveras High School in San Andreas.

Arrest for 2nd Degree Burglary

   On August 18, 2014 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Mathew Austin Moore (24) of San Andreas, at Turner Park in San Andreas for alleged 2nd Degree Burglary, a felony, and Being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor.

   Moore was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Way Fire near Lake Isabella

   August 19, 2014 at 8 AM:  The Way Fire, which was first reported around 3 PM on August 18, 2014 is near Lake Isabella, in the Sequoia National Forest.

   It is not yet known how many structures have been lost, as evacuations are in place. Over 3,195 acres have already been burned and there is 0% containment at this point.

Happy Camp Complex Fire

   August 19, 2014: The Happy Camp Complex Fire, started in several locations by lightning, is 7,341 acres and on 10% contained as of 7 AM.

   This fire is made up of many lightning strikes near Happy Camp. A Red Flag warning remains in the area of the Klamath National Forest.

Senator Jeffords dies

  Senator James Jeffords of Vermont is the Senator who left the Republican party in 2001 and gave the Democrats control of the Senate.

   He died yesterday at the age of 80.

Junction Fire grows quickly

   August 19, 2014:  As of late last night CalFire had the Junction Fire in Oakhurst at 1200 acres with 500 homes threatened and 0% containment.

   Calaveras Fire District crews from CalFire are assisting in fighting this fire, which started yesterday afternoon.

Rollover accident on Six Mile Road

  August 18, 2014 at 6:30 PM:  A single vehicle accident occurred on Six Mile Rd at Vallecito Bluffs where a car rolled over. An ambulance has now been dispatched to the scene.

   CHP is en route to that location. A tow truck is on its way to upright the vehicle.

Is this the 1960's?

   Hard to believe that this is 2014 as we watch the violent activities in Ferguson, Missouri and other places in the US due to police actions towards a black boy. (6 bullets, emptying his gun into the boy)

   This type of protesting went on regularly in the '60's while the black community was trying to gain the civil rights that white people have always had in the US.  Are we going backwards???

   August 18, 2014 at 2:48 PM:  A traffic accident has been reported at Hwy 4 and Blagen Road in Arnold, as one vehicle is now in the ditch. The roadway is not blocked at this time.

Dig that well deeper!

  All over California, those with land/ and or agriculture dependent on well water are digging deeper in order to reach the water they need.

   Part of the reason they are doing it now is because lawmakers are talking about restricting rights to deepen wells or even to dig new wells. The Groundwater WARS are on!!

Raiders win but Niners lose

   While the Raiders won in a close game with the Detroit Lions over the weekend, the 49ers lost to Denver in their first game in the new Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.

   The Niners sold out the stadium, but folks went home early, so there was no massive traffic jam after the game.  Kaepernich on played a few plays.  There were a lot of compliments on the new stadium, however.

Copperopolis man arrested

   On August 17, 2014 Paul David Moreno of Copperopolis (52) was arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies at his residence on Rock Ridge Lane for alleged Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse and Threatening a crime with the Intent to Terrorize, both felonies and for Exhibition of a Weapon, a misdemeanor.

   Moreno was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released on bond.

Arrest in West Point

  On August 17, 2014 Michael Eugene Boyer (42) of West Point was arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies on Timber Lane for alleged Infliction of Corporal Injury on Spouse and Threatening a crime or Terrorizing, both felonies.

   Boyer was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Angels Camp man arrested

   On August 15, 2014 Michael Shane Bush (49) of Angels Camp was arrested by Angels Camp Police at his residence on Sonora Street for alleged Inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse and for False Imprisonment with violence, both felonies.

   Bush was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released on bond.

Burglary in Avery

   On August 16, 2014 a burglary was reported on Hwy 4 in Avery. No other details are available at this time.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Major crash in Madera

  August 17, 2014 at 4:30 PM:  A pickup towing a boat and trailer and a Mitsubishi collided around 12:40 PM at Hwy 145 and Hwy 41 in Madera.

   Air ambulance was sent as there were 9 people involved, some injured. At least one injured was a fatality, according to CHP.   The roads were closed for quite awhile and the scene is just now being cleared.

Four car collision in PIne Crest area

   August 17, 2014 at 4:30 PM:  CHP is still at the scene of a four car traffic collision on Hwy 108 near Leland Meadow Road in the Pine Crest area.

   An ambulance was required due to injuries. Use extra caution if headed to that area until cleared.

  UPDATE:   Another complaint about cows and calves on Parrotts Ferry Road at Airola was received by CHP at 10:40 AM. They are most likely busy with the accident on Hwy 49.

Caltrans working on Hwy 4

   A traffic advisory has been issued for Hwy 4 from Main Street in Douglas Flat to Meko Drive above Arnold in Calaveras County for August 18, 2014 thru August 23, 2014.

   They are repaving different parts of the Hwy and you WILL be held up about 20 minutes, so be sure to allow extra time.

Dead deer on Murphys Grade Road

   August   16, 2014 at 11:30:  A dead deer has been reported in the roadway on Murphys Grade Rd. CHP is en route to the area.

Regular UPUD meeting August 20, 2014

   The day after the special meeting to present a rate increase public hearing, the UPUD (Union Public Utility District) in Murphys will hold a regular board meeting at 7 PM.

   On this agenda is APPROVING THE WATER RATE INCREASE!

Water rates in Murphys going UP???

     On Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 7 PM the Union Public Utility District (water in Murphys) is holding a public hearing with Gary Ghio providing the presentation about raising the water rate for the Murphys ratepayers.

   There will be an informational discussion and the public is welcome to offer questions or comments.  Approval of this increase is on the agenda for August 20, 2014.

Governor Rick Perry Indicted on two felonies

   August 15, 2014:   We may not have Texas Governor Rick Perry around for comedic effect in the 2016 Presidential primary after all.  All Governor Brown wants is for him to stay out of California.

   Today a Grand Jury indicted him on two felonies; one for alleged Coercion (trying to force a District Attorney to resign by threatening to withhold funds) and the other for Abuse of Power (actually vetoing a bill giving money to that district as punishment when she didn't resign).

   August 15, 2014 at 4:30 PM:  CHP is at the scene of a traffic accident on Hwy 49 near Ridge Road outside of Sutter Creek.

   An ambulance was dispatched due to injuries when a blue pickup and a gold Toyota Camry collided.

Goats on Hwy 4 at Six Mile

  August 15, 2014 at 2 PM:  Animal control has been called to go to Hwy 4 and Six Mile Road where some goats are reportedly on or near the roadway.

Car into Canal fatal

   August 15, 2014 at 12 Noon:  A maroon colored vehicle that went into the canal at Hwy 152 and Dos Palos near Los Banos was reported upside down in the canal.

   Emergency personnel tried to get to the victim trapped inside but it was sadly a fatality. CHP is at the scene and a tow truck has been dispatched.

   On August 15, 2014 around 1:30 AM a fight broke out at the Nugget Bar in Murphys, and the Calaveras Sheriff was called out.

   A report was taken on the incident by the Sheriff.

   On August 14, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office received a call reporting someone squatting, camping and smoking on a property on Main Street in San Andreas.

   David Gregory is being replace with Chuck Todd to hos NBC' s Meet the Press on Sunday mornings. Nothing has been the same since we lost Tim Russert.

   They are hoping that Chuck Todd can bring the passion necessary for the show to hold viewers.

Robin Williams had Parkinsons

   Robin Williams' wife made public today that her husband had been suffering from early stages of Parkinsons.

   For those who wondered what could have been so wrong, this could have been the final blow to the comedian and actor.

MLB elects new Commissioner

   With Bud Selig retiring, the MLB owners had to pick a successor.  Today they voted in Rob Manfred as the new MLB Commissioner.
