King Fire out of Control

   September 16, 2014 at 8 PM:   The King Fire has grown to 11, 570 acres and is only 5% contained. Massive mandatory evacuations are in place in the entire Pollock Pines area.

   CHP has been stationed on Hwy 50 all day due to the closure of one lane from Ice House to above the fire area on Sig Alert.

Boles Fire in Weed

   September 16, 2014 at 8:30 PM:  Cal Fire just reported that the 375 acre Boles Fire, which has destroyed or damaged over 100 structures in and around Weed, is now 25% contained.

   Evacuations are still in place for Angel Valley and Hoy Road.  Hwy 97 remains closed in the area.

Debris Fire near Jenny LInd Fire Department

   September 16, 2014 at 8:40 PM:  The fire department just received a call that someone is burning debris less than a mile from the Fire Department in Jenny Lind.

   All burning is banned in Northern California.

Free Arts Tour in Calaveras

   On September 27-28, 2014 many artist locations will be open to visitors.  Pick up and may and join the tour. It's free from the Calaveras County Arts Council.

Rod Wright out for living OUT! What about McClintock??

   California State Senator Rod Wright is out of office basically because he chose to live in a different area than he served and didn't tell anyone.

   Congressman McClintock lives in Ami Bera's District and has a home in the LA area, but supposedly represents District 4.  Why does he get away with it??? Shouldn't he resign???

Twin Tunnels to LA violates Clean Water Act

  It seems that no one but Jerry Brown loves his twin tunnels idea to give LA more water.  The Environmental Protection Agency says it violates the Federal Clean Water Act.

   Now Congress is trying to get the funding for the plan scuttled before it gets started.

Car rollover in Oakdale

   September 16, 2014 at 9:55 AM:  A single vehicle has reportedly rolled over at Hwy 108 and Willms Road in Oakdale.

     CHP is en route. It is not known if there are injuries.

US Hwy 50 lane closure

   Due to the King Fire, US Hwy 50 has a SigAlert, as one lane is closed between Ice House to Sly Park .

   When it will reopen is unclear at this time. Use caution if headed that direction. 

Friends of the Fair meets

  On Wednesday September 16, 2014 at 6 PM the Friends of the Fair meets at Camps Restaurant in Angels Camp.

   This group helps the Calaveras County fairgrounds with labor, materials and other support.

Traffic Accident near Littlejohn Creek

   September 16, 2014 at 7:50 AM:  CHP has just cleared Mariposa Road near East Gawne Road near Littlejohn Creek, outside of Escalon after life-flighting the injured victim.

   A single vehicle had overturned at that location.

Propane leak at Railroad Flat Elementary

   September 16, 2014 at 7:50 AM:  Cal Fire is en route to the Railroad Flat Elementary School due to a propane leak smell.

   The gas company has also been dispatched to repair the leak. This is the 2nd day in a row that this has occurred.

Courtney Fire in Madera County

   Since the Courtney Fire in Oakhurst, Madera County, started on September 14, 2014, it has destroyed 33 homes, 28 outbuildings, 13 vehicles and 4 Recreational Vehicles.

   The total acres burned as of 6:45 PM on September 15, 2014 is 320 acres. It is now 35% contained.

KIng Fire grows

  As of 8:45 PM September 15, 2014 the King Fire, located in El Dorado County near Pollock Pines, is 8600 acres and only 5% contained.

   Mandatory evacuations are in place for 500 homes in the area. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

100 Structures damaged or destroyed by fire

   In Siskiyou County, a fire that started on September 15, 2014 near Weed, had already destroyed or damaged over 100 structures and burned 345 acres by 8:45 PM that night.

   Evacuation orders have been issued for Weed, Carrick and Lake Shastina. This fire is 15% contained. It is estimated that 1/4 of the town of Weed, including the lumber mill and the Catholic Church, have been destroyed.
