Fire at Yosemite

  Another fire has been reported inside Yosemite National Park at Hwy 140 and El Portal Road, about 4 miles from the park entrance.

   As of 4 PM Hwy 140 is closed to all traffic until the fire is controlled.

Motorcycle accident on Hwy 49

    UPDATE at 1:15 PM:  The cyclist was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center with a broken ankle.

Shots fired near Taco Bell, deputy initiates

   At around 10:40 PM on October 6, 2014 a deputy initiated a stop at the Taco Bell on Hwy 12 in Valley Springs due to shots heard.

   No report was taken on the incident.

District 3 Candidates night in Arnold

   The District 3 Candidates will be gathering at 6 PM tonight at the Sequoia Woods Country Club in Arnold.

   Candidates for CCWD, Judge and Supervisor will be present. It is being sponsored by Greater Arnold Business Association.

Burglary in Arnold

   On October 6, 2014 a residential burglary was reported on Lakemont Drive in Arnold.

    The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Burglary in Valley Springs

   On October 6, 2014 a residential burglary was reported on St Andrews Road in Valley Springs.

   A deputy from the Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Vehicle vandalized at Valley Springs Sheriff's Substation

   A vehicle was reportedly vandalized at the Calaveras Sheriff's Valley Springs Substation on Hwy 12 on October 6, 2014.

   The Sheriff made a report. We aren't sure if it was a Sheriff's vehicle or civilian.

Grand Theft in Forest Meadows

    On October 6, 2014 a grand theft was reported on Sugarbush Lane in Forest Meadows.

    The Sheriff's Office took a report of the incident.

Firearms Arrest in Valley Springs

  On October 6, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Steven Arthur Williams (38) of Valley Springs, on Baldwin Street for allegedly Altering a Firearm ID mark, Marijuana Plants and for Importing/Manufacturing for Sale or Possession of a Firearm, all felonies.

    Williams was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.  At around 5:30 AM two calls were received in this area for illegal shooting on Baldwin. This could possibly be connected to the arrest, but we aren't sure.

Three out of 10 teen girls get pregnant

   In a new study published by the New England Journal of Medicine,  it shows that 3 out of every 10 teenage girls get pregnant each year, a higher rate that other industrialized countries. 

     Of course, everyone knows this is totally the fault of the girls, right?

   However, they learned through the study that teens who are counseled about effective contraception, and given their choice at now cost, their rates dropped by 78%, preventing abortions in 76%.

Water Sting!!

   In Los Angeles, NBC LA did a study on elected officials who have issued mandates for cutting water usage by homeowners.

   In a shocking "sting" they found that some of the worst water wasters were these same elected officials who have forced homeowners to cut back. They were watering every night.  One councilman said,  "If I don't keep my lawn green I lose property value!"

   Well, DUH, how do you think the rest of us feel. Our roses are dying, our lawns are brown, and you have been wasting water all along. Not one of them had been fined the $500 a day.

     I'd like to see an investigation of elected officials here in Calaveras County, wouldn't you?

Target, Home Depot and now Wal-Mart....

   Wal-Mart has decided to follow Target and Home Depot, who have cancelled all health benefits for part-time employees.

   At Wal-Mart alone, this will affect 30,000 workers. They cite rising health care costs as their reasons.

Fire on Murray Dale Lane

   October 7, 2014 at 9:55 AM:  A fire has been reported on Murray Dale Lane in San Andreas, possibly an illegal burn pile.

   Cal Fire has been dispatched to the area.

Norman Gresham III of West Point murderer not arrested?

  UPDATE:  As of Tuesday October 7, 2014 the District Attorney's Office (Barbara Yook) has not responded to our request for information or even acknowledged any concern regarding this crime.

Angels Camp City Council meets tonight--Dogtown Road project agendized

   On Tuesday October 7, 2014 the Angels Camp City Council meets at 5 PM at the Firehouse, beginning with two lawsuits in Closed Session.

   Angels Camp vs. Marie A. Starr, Calaveras Superior Court Case No. 11CV37944 and the Greenhorn Creek case of Difu, Croletto, Rosato and Turco vs. City of Angels Camp Landscaping and Lighting District #1, Calaveras County Superior Court, Case No. 13-CV-39523.

   The main thing on the agenda is approval of the Dogtown Road project for the Mark Twain
Hospital Clinic.

Car hits embankment in Pioneer

   October 7, 2014 at 8:30 AM:  A red vehicle has reportedly run off the roadway and hit an embankment at Marilyn Lane and Red Corral Drive in Pioneer.

   An ambulance and tow truck have been dispatched to the scene. CHP is en route.

HUMANS are destroying our Earth!!

   More than half of the population of animals on the land and in the seas has been lost in the past 40 years. Don't believe us, go read the analysis by the WWF in the Wall Street Journal.

   Part of this is due to destruction of the earth itself (clear-cuts, slash and burn, etc) and climate change will take care of the other half.  MAN is the most destructive, vicious predator on EARTH!!!

   In essence, HUMANS are destroying habitat and will eventually become one of the extinct species as a result of predation, destruction and GREED! 

CHP Monitoring Hwy 4 construction in Arnold

   October 7, 2014 at 8:10 AM:  CHP is again monitoring construction traffic while the road is being repaved in downtown Arnold again today.

   Use extra caution and report to 911 if you see big rigs speeding down Hwy 4 after unloading their asphalt in Arnold.

Fawn on Hwy 49

   October 7, 2014 at 8 AM:  A fawn has been reported on the side of Hwy 49 in San Andreas, near Treats store.

   Drive carefully. If you don't have deer warning whistles, spend the $10 and get them put on the front of your vehicle.
