Dead "scarecrow" reported in Winters

   After a woman called 911 in Winters to report what looked like a dead body, police responded to find what appears to be a Halloween prank, a scarecrow stretched out in the vines.

3 day old Calf found in Drug suspects car

   During a search for drugs of a car in southern California, a three-day-old calf was found. The man told the cops he bought it at a gas station. Is this a MOO-ving violation?

   The ID tag had been forcefully removed from its ear. Riverside animal control is attempting to find its owner, while the suspect was booked on drug and rustling charges.

More troops sent to Iraq--How is lunch going?

  President Obama just ordered 1500 more troops sent to Iraq. For those who fear mission creep, fear of another full scale war is on their minds.

   Part of this is because now that the Republicans are in charge, he knows that it will make them happy. Everyone is wondering how his lunch with the new leaders in Congress is going.

Car hits pedestrian in Stockton

   UPDATE at 2 PM:  Injuries to the pedestrian appear to be minor.

Fire in Murphys

 UPDATE at 1:45 PM:  The fire is under control. Did not spread further into the dwelling.

Big Rig overturns on Hwy 140

   November 7, 2014 at 11:40 AM:  A big rig has overturned at Hwy 140 and Thornton Road in the Merced area.

   An ambulance and big rig tow are responding to the scene. Traffic is moving one way on the shoulder of the roadway.

Murphys Sanitary District meets

   The Murphys Sanitary District holds their regular monthly board meeting on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 6 PM.

   On the agenda is an application from Steve Gonzales for an appointment to the Board.

      Looks like that will change now that Steve Kearney has been elected Supervisor for Rancho Calaveras residents.  Congratulations to Supervisor Kearney.

Paddle Boat Stolen in Copperopolis

   On November 6, 2014 a paddle boat was reported stolen from a residence on Bret Harte Drive in Copperopolis.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Vehicle runs off road in Sonora

   UPDATE at 8:30 AM:  Turns out this was a Tuolumne Utility District vehicle  vs a white sedan. No injuries were reported.

Traffic Hazard in Mokelumne HIll

   November 7, 2014 at 6:15 AM:  A report that two vehicles are partially blocking the road on Hwy 26 near the Elementary School has been received by CHP.

   One vehicle appears to be stuck. Use extra caution until CHP can clear the area.

Boreal Ski Resort opens today

   The first ski resort in California to open for the season will be Boreal in the Lake Tahoe area.

   They open at 9 AM this morning, November 7, 2014, so if you can't wait, here's your chance. They have been using the snow guns on the base they receive in last weekend's storm.

Unemployment drops to 5.8%

   The economy continues to improve, at least nationwide, and especially in the urban areas of the country.

   214,000 jobs were added and it brings the National unemployment rate down to 5.8%.

   UPDATE at 6:05 AM:  CHP has cleared the roadway.

We threw a party and no one came

   The State of California threw a party and no one came, it seems.  Only 21.4% of eligible voters turned out to vote for the Governors election November 4, 2014.

   When the overall turnout is low, the Tea Party types benefit.  What will the Democratic Party do to get out the vote in 2016, or are they going to concede the Presidency to the Tea Party too?
