Bear Valley at 12:35 PM

    November 30, 2014:   Snow is falling at Bear Valley. Hard to tell from the webcam, but looks like maybe a couple of inches on the ground, in addition to what they have made.

   They'll take whatever nature will give them.

Ferguson police officer resigns

   After three months of full pay while off the job, Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, who killed Michael Brown, has officially resigned.

   HE states that he is worried for HIS security, so he is moving. Very interesting and telling about his thought process.

Joyriding in truck "bedliner" ?

   A Sheriff's deputy made a stop on Campo Seco Road at Pardee Dam Road on November 29, 2014 after seeing a truck pulling a "bedliner" behind it, with a man rolled up inside on the roadway with a rope tied to it.

   The man was wearing a helmet, but the driver of the truck was cited. Hard to believe what some people do for entertainment.

 

Illegal Shooting reported in Hathaway PInes

   On November 29, 2014 a resident reported illegal shooting occurring on Candyrock Road and possible trespassing.

Avery woman arrested by Angels Camp Police

  On November 27, 2014 Tracy Winters Rogers (52) of Avery was arrested at Hwy 4 and Hwy 49 in Angels Camp, for alleged Grand Theft and Vehicle Theft, both felonies and for Possession of Burglary Tools, a misdemeanor.

   Rogers was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by the Angels Camp Police Department.
  

Traffic Collision on Fricot City Road

   November 30, 2014 at 9:05 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Fricot Ranch Road at Fricot City.

   A gray BMW reports that it was run off the roadway by another vehicle that did not stay at the scene. CHP is en route. No injuries have been reported. A tow truck has been dispatched.

Traffic collision in Valley Springs

   November 30, 2014 at 8:45 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 12 and Pine in Valley Springs between a white Dodge 4 x 4 and a Red Toyota pickup.

   No injuries have been reported. Two CHP units are en route to the scene.

49ers off this week

   The 49ers don't play again until next Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 1:25 PM on FOX Sports.

   They travel across the Bay and play the Oakland Raiders.

   November 29, 2014 at 2:20 PM:  Emergency personnel are en route to the scene of a traffic collision on Hwy 49 at Wilcox Ranch Road.

      An ambulance has been dispatched due to injuries.

Head-on Traffic collision in Copperopolis

   November 29, 2014 at 2:15 PM:  Yet another traffic collision has been reported on Copper Cove and Black Creek Road  in Copperopolis.

   Emergency vehicles are en route to the scene.  This was a pickup and a white sedan.  The roadway is blocked.

  

Sports car runs off Hwy 108

   November 29, 2014 at 2 PM:  A blue sports car ran off of Hwy 108 at Tulloch Dam Road. The car is 50 ' off the roadway and the driver is pinned in the car.

   An ambulance and tow truck have been dispatched to the scene.

Pickup and van collide on Hwy 99

  November 29, 2014 at 2 PM:  A blue pickup and a van have collided on Hwy 99 at Liberty Road near Lodi.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. The roadway is blocked.

Car close to going over side in Copperoplis

  November 29, 2014 at 11:15 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Obyrnes Ferry Road near the Copper Cove gate in Copperopolis near Lake Tulloch Resort.

   The car is apparently near to going over the side of the cliff. A tow truck has been dispatched. No injuries are reported.

Overturned truck on Hwy 4

   November 29, 2014 at 11 AM:  A truck is reportedly on its side on Hwy 4 near Pool Station Road, near Copperopolis.

   An ambulance is en route, due to injuries.  Use extra caution if headed to that area.

Protestors stop BART trains

  The BART trains were stopped late yesterday, when a group of protestors chained themselves to the cars.

   Service was interrupted between Oakland and San Francisco for several hours, until police were able to cut the chains and arrest the protestors.

Several vehicles on icy road stuck near Long Barn

   November 29, 2014 at 9:40 AM:  Several vehicles have been sliding on the icy roadway on Hwy 108 near Long Barn and are now stuck.

   Stay off the highways and roads where it is snowing unless you have chains. Now these vehicles are also blocking the roadway.

New "Star Wars" coming in 2015

  If you are a fan of the "Star Wars" movies, then you will enjoy the trailer that just came out yesterday online.

   "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be out in 2015 and from the trailer, it should be all that it is promoted to be. And of course, the original music.

Vehicle stuck in snow on Hwy 108

  November 29, 2014 at 9:25 AM:  Ignoring the warnings of the coming storm, a vehicle tried to make it over Hwy 108 and is now stuck in the snow at Snowwhite Ridge Drive, above Strawberry, blocking traffic.

  A tow truck has been dispatched. Use extra caution if headed to that area.

Chains required on Hwy 4

   November 29, 2014 at 9 AM:  Chains are currently required on vehicles without 4 wheel drive and snow tires at around 6000' on Hwy 4. Snow is expected to come down as low as 5000' today.

  On Hwy 88 chains are required 4 miles east of Hamms Station.

Overturned car on Hwy 108

   November 29, 2014 at 8:55 AM:  CHP is at the scene of an overturned car on Lancaster Drive near Hwy 108 in Oakdale.

   An ambulance transported the driver to the hospital. The vehicle is blocking the roadway. A tow truck has been dispatched.

Illegal Shooting in Calaveras County

  On November 27, 2014 illegal shooting was reported at Market and Broadway in San Andreas, on Ridge Road in Railroad Flat, at Hwy 4 and Northwood above Murphys, on Cemetery Ave in San Andreas, on Treat Ave in San Andreas, at Bergsma and Baldwin in Valley Springs, and on Montero and Siegal in Valley Springs.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took no report on any of these incidents.

Bag of Bones found in Valley Springs

   On November 27, 2014 a Valley Springs resident called the Sheriff's Office to report finding a deteriorating bag of bones at South Petersburg Road and Lime Creek Road in Valley Springs.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report.

   The two main members of the Peanut Gallery showed up at a CCWD meeting last week, telling people who live in the forest what to do with their land. What a perfect pair!!!

   They both live in dead San Andreas, where Pastor Edsel now says he is wanting to cut all the oaks down.  All we can say is to keep your anti-environment, anti-wildlife and pro-drought ideas in your own dead district.

Motorcycle accident on Hwy 49

   November 27, 2014 at 1 PM:  A motorcycle accident has been reported at Hwy 49 and Hwy 132 in Coulterville.

   CHP is at the scene. An ambulance was dispatched due to injuries.

Angels Camp City Council meets

   On Tuesday, December 2, 2014 the Angels Camp City Council meets at the Firehouse at 6 PM for their regular meeting.

   On the agenda is Update to the LOng Term solution for the Circulation issues in the Northeast Quadrant of the City.  That is the downtown area, right? That is where the circulation problems are!!

  Why is it everyone fears they are trying to sneak a way to hurt the residents on Dogtown Road, regardless of how they feel.

Sheriff's Office vehicle overturned

   November 26, 2014 at 4 PM:  A Sheriff's Office vehicle has reportedly overturned at Railroad Flat Road and Blagen Boulevard in Wilseyville.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. This is near the sewer plant.

Caltrans employee involved in collision

   November 26, 2014 at 12:15 PM:  A three vehicle collision, one a Caltrans employee was reported on Charter Way in front of the Caltrans building in Stockton.

  No injuries have been reported.  CHP is at the scene.

SMUG cancels December meeting

   The Sierra MacIntosh Users Group (SMUG) is  not holding a December 2014 meeting, due to all the holiday activities and possible inclement weather.

   In January 2015 SMUG will move to its winter headquarters at the Murphys Library.

  November 26, 2014 at 9:55 AM:  An elderly woman has been reported walking in the middle of the roadway at Hwy 49 and Toyanza in San Andreas.

Major Injuries in Head-on Crash

   November 26, 2014 at 8:10 AM:  A head-on crash on Hwy 4 at Inland Drive in Stockton resulted in major injuries for at least one person. CHP is at the scene.

   According to a witness, one vehicle tried to pass another in an unsafe area, causing the collision.  Hwy 4 is blocked and parties are trapped inside one of the vehicles.  The injured were taken to County Hospital.

   November 25, 2014 at 11:55 AM:  A bicyclist has been taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle on Ferretti Road in Groveland.

   No other vehicles were involved in this incident.

Boy 12, shot and killed with BB gun

  After someone called the police and reported that a boy was pointing what they thought was probably a fake gun at people and scaring them, Cleveland Ohio police responded.

   When they said the 12-year-old boy was reaching for the gun, one officer shot and killed the boy.

   Had the boy been white, would he have been shot so quickly?

Power pole hit and run in Valley Springs

  November 25, 2014 at 7:55 AM:  The CHP was notified that a witness saw a blue Dodge Dakota with gray trim hit a power pole on Pardee Dam Road in Valley Springs and then left the scene.

   The pole is reportedly leaning near a pond by the baseball field.  The Dakota was heading for the Pardee Dam area.

   We received a message that a closed for "unforeseen reasons" sign is on the door of the Nugget Bar in Murphys.

Highway 4 work this week

   Weather permitting, Caltrans reports that the Highway 4 work will continue through Wednesday November 26, 2014 from Douglas Flat to above Arnold.

   Basically, they are down to edge work and striping, but delays of up to 25 minutes are to be expected.

PIckup off road through fence in Copperopolis area

  November 22, 2014 at 12:10 PM:  A Toyota pickup reportedly ran off Hwy 4, overturned, went through a barbed wire fence and is now stuck on a big rock not far from Pool Station Road near Copperopolis.

   CHP is en route. No injuries have been reported. Drive carefully!! The roadways are wet and slick.

New Ski business in Truckee burglarized

   Just recently a brand new ski shop opened on Donner Pass Way in downtown Truckee.  Early this morning over $25,000 in skis, snowboards and other inventory were stolen after a break-in.

   Called the Soulhouse Ski Shop, they hadn't even had one weekend of skiers to open to before the burglary. 

Jackson (Amador County) City Council meets

MIke Brown killed 130' from initial contact??

   Finally, after over 3 months, the fact that the Chief of Police in Ferguson lied about the distance that Mike Brown actually was from the initial contact with Darren Wilson, has come out.

   It turns out, it was over 130' away, not the about 35' that the Ferguson Police repeatedly stated.  In that case, how could there have been eminent danger to the officer??

Hit and Run at West Point Elementary School

   November 21, 2014 at 12:15 PM:  CHP is at the West Point Elementary School on Bald Mountain Road, where a hit and run traffic report was turned in this morning.

   No injuries were reported in the incident.

Canseco shoots off finger??

   It turns out that the report that Jose Canseco shot his own finger off while cleaning his gun is apparently true.

   The part about it being reattached is also reported to be true.

   However, the part about it falling off during a poker game is not true, according to Canseco.  The finger is still securely attached to his hand, as it was successfully reattached.

   The Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) just announced that it is changing its regular meeting, which is currently December 10, 2014 at 9 AM.

   Another possible litigation is also being discussed in Closed Session.  Then Chair Pontiff Ponte will require 2 hours of prayer for herself, Pastor Edsel and Altar Boy Spellman, (who has been missing in action).

   The Consent Agenda is long, due to the Pontiff taking a month off to visit the Vatican and help with Oliveira's election.

Fatal Accident on Hwy 4

   According to CHP, on November 20, 2014 at approximately 4:15 PM an 18 year old Copperopolis resident was traveling eastbound on Hwy 4 east of Stallion Way at an unknown speed in a 2006 Dodge Stratus.

   November 21, 2014 at 8:20 AM:  CHP is at the scene of a traffic accident between a silver Chrysler and a white Mazda at Hwy 108 and Chicken Ranch Road in Jamestown.

     No injuries have been reported but the vehicles are stuck together. A tow truck has been dispatched to the location.

Pickup takes out fence

   November 21, 2014 at 8:15 AM:  A blue pickup ran off the road at Hwy 99 and Cherokee Road in the Lodi area and took out about 40' of chain link fence.

   Fortunately no injuries have been reported in the accident.

   Caltrans is requiring that chains be worn all vehicles without four-wheel drive and snow tires on Hwy 4 in Ebbetts Pass.

Cosby gets cancelled

   Due to the repeated allegations of rape by several women that apparently occurred 30 years or more ago, NBC and Netflix have cancelled their plans to create a new show or to show reruns of Cosby's old shows.

Director Mike Nichols Dies

  Director of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe" and "The Graduate", for which he won an Oscar, and
"The Birdcage" with Robin Williams, died suddenly last night. He was 83.

   Nichols was married to ABC anchor Diane Sawyer.

Five killed on trip to Disney World

  Two adults and 3 children were killed on a Louisiana highway while on a trip to Disney World in Florida.

   Coming from their home in Texas, their car ran off the road and then rolled over several times.

   Apparently a Congressman from Tennessee met with Secret Service privately and suggested putting a 6' MOAT around the White House.

   After the President flatly refused any consideration of such a water barrier, the congressman is now retracting the idea. 

Spellman in Camouflage??

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office was called twice on November 19, 2014 about a man in camouflage hiding in a ravine near a fence at Hwy 26 and Garner Place and under bushes, smoking.

   One person we asked told us it could have been Supervisor Spellman, who has apparently been hiding since losing his election, but no one is sure what or if he smokes.

Woman wanted directions??

   On November 19, 2014 a Vallecito resident on Camp Nine Bypass discovered a strange woman in his kitchen. She told him she needed directions to a casino.

   The caller reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that the woman then left the residence. The Sheriff's Office took no report.

Burglary in Railroad Flat

   On November 19, 2014 a burglary was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office by a resident on Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat.

   November 20, 2014 at 8:45 AM:  An animal hazard has been reported on Hwy 49 at Court Street in San Andreas.

   Unsure what it is, but must be dead, as Caltrans was notified to pick it up.

   Recently a normally quiet street in the Nob Hill area of Angels Camp was awash with Calaveras Sheriff's deputies, Angels Camp cops, Animal Control Officers and noise.

Two Bands of Indians compete for giant casino

   Regardless of the fact that the voters turned down the Indian Casino proposition to build outside of their reservations, two bands are competing to build a GIANT casino.

   The location of this proposed casino is the Vallejo abandoned Navy base at Mare Island.

   The plans are to build a palace the likes of which California has never seen, bringing jobs and tax money to an area that has suffered.

   The first trailers of the newest movie about Charlie Brown and the gang has been released.

   Called "Peanuts", the movie  will be showing at theaters beginning in November of 2015.

Burglary in Mountain Ranch

   On November 18, 2014 a burglary was reported at a residence on Spring Gulch in Mountain Ranch.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Copperopolis man arrested

  On November 18, 2014 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Mark Anthony Andriotti (58) of Copperopolis on Black Creek Drive in Copperopolis for allegedly Threatening a Crime with the Intent to Terrorize and Assault with a Firearm on Person, both felonies.

   Andriotti was booked into the Calaveras County Jail where he was released after posting bond.

Hwy 4 closing at 10 AM

   November 19, 2014:  Hwy 4 in Ebbetts Pass will close at 10 AM today, due to the incoming storm. The time of re-opening has not been established.

   The snow for today's storm is expected to be over 7000'; however, the next one is coming from the north and will be colder, so be prepared.

   Eighty year old Charles Manson, serving life for murder,  has filed for a marriage license.  The lucky girl? A 26 year old fan of his who recently moved to California to be near him.

Traffic Accident in Twain Harte

   November 18, 2014 at 10 AM:  A traffic accident has been reported at Hwy 108 and Twain Harte Drive in Twain Harte.

   Emergency personnel are en route. This is in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 108. Use extra caution if headed that direction. No injuries have been reported.

Betty White's show cancelled

   Hot in Cleveland, the sitcom starring Betty White is in its final season. It has not been renewed to continue into next year.

   Betty White is 92 years old and may want to finally retire.

Homeowner Cited for Illegal Burning in Valley Springs

   Cal Fire responded to a call for a grass fire in the 2000 block of Sonny Lane in Valley Springs at around 12:45 PM on November 15, 2014.

   An illegal burn around 10' x 10' in size was in progress. Illegal burn items were also in the pile. The homeowner was cited for burning without a permit and during a burn ban.

Resisting Arrest in Angels Camp

  On November 17, 2014 at approximately 10 PM, Angels Camp Police arrested Jack Dillon Smith (33) of Angels Camp at Hwy 49 and Bret Harte Drive for allegedly Resisting an Executive Official (felony resisting arrest).

   Smith was also arrested for alleged Disorderly Conduct due to Alcohol and Resisting a Public Officer, both misdemeanors.  He was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

"Well.....I can't promise anything...."

   That was just one of the comments of the people who were released just yesterday due to Prop 47 being passed.

Dead deer near Toyon

   November 18, 2014 at 6:30 AM:  A dead deer has just been reported in the roadway and Hwy 12 and Hwy 26 near Toyon.

   Use extra caution if headed in that direction until Caltrans can get to the scene and clear.

Why did teen pretend to be abducted?

     On November 17, 2014 around 4:30 PM the Calaveras Sheriff's Office issued a reported missing person and Amber Alert for this 14 year old teen from San Andreas.

  The doctor who was flown to the U.S. from Sierra Leone late last week has died; this one in a Nebraska hospital.

   This is the 2nd person to die of the disease in the U.S. Neither person contracted the disease here.

Caltrans vs Ford Taurus

   November 17, 2014 at 11:30 AM:  CHP is at the scene of a traffic accident involving a red Ford Taurus and a Caltrans vehicle on Hwy 99 South near French Camp Road offramp in Stockton.

   No injuries have been reported.

Sierra Nevada Film Festival

   On Saturday, November 22, 2014  the Sierra Nevada Film Festival will present feature films "My Brooklyn" and "The Lightbulb Conspiracy" in the Dogwood Forum at Columbia College in Columbia.

Cal Fire lifts Burn Suspension--Burn day numbers

   Cal Fire is announcing that as of November 17, 2014 the suspension for burning is lifted, due to the recent rains.

   Residents are asked to use caution while burning outdoor debris and only burn between the hours of 7 PM to 8 AM.  All other rules for burning are also in effect.

   The burn day number for Calaveras County is 754-6600, for San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties is 877-429-2876 and for Tuolumne County is 533-5598.

Pope Francis coming to U.S.

   It was formally announced that Pope Francis will be attending a conference in Philadelphia in 2015.

   There will be an onslaught of Catholics visiting the area, hoping to get a chance to see him.

Large Bear hit by car near airport

   At around 3:30 AM a large bear was hit by a car and apparently killed on Hwy 49 near Carol Kennedy Drive, near the Calaveras Airport. The bear was blocking the roadway and several people were out of their vehicles, standing nearby.

   Caltrans was called in to pick up the bear. Be careful driving at night as all of the deer and bear travel around searching for food and water at night.

Napoleons Hat brings in $2.4 million

   A two-cornered hat once owned by Napoleon, was auctioned off over the weekend, bringing in $2.4 million.

   A South Korean man reportedly paid the price for the famous hat.

Truck High-centered in Angels Camp

  November 17, 2014 at 9 AM:  A delivery truck is reportedly high-centered near the Chicken Barn at Main Street and Murphys Grade Road in Angels Camp.

  Bono, lead singer of U2, has had a bad couple of weeks. First a cargo door blew off the plane he was flying in, and some luggage flew out.

   Then he went cycling in NYC over the weekend and took a spill, injuring his arm, which may require surgery.

Hwy 4 work continue through Thanksgiving

   In case you didn't know, the Caltrans Hwy 4 project is taking much longer than the original announcement indicated.   They will again have one-way traffic control from November 17, 2014 through November 21, 2014 unless it rains.

    This is from Douglas Flat to Meko Drive above Arnold, and you never know where they'll be any given day, so be extra cautious. Delays are expected to be 25 minutes.

Motorcycle vs Toyota 4 runner in Diamond Springs

  November 16, 2014 at 3:30 PM: A motorcycle and a Toyota 4 runner collided near Hwy 49 and Awhanee in Diamond Springs. The motorcyclist was injured, but one expressed fear due to outstanding warrants.

   The motorcyclist was finally taken to a ranger station and was then delivered to the hospital.

Cat Town Cafe' full since opening

   A café in Oakland called Cat Town Cafe' is busy all the time. Ever since it opened its doors, customers have crowded into the place, to visit the cats.

   It seems that sipping coffee or tea with a cat around is not only relaxing, but makes customers happy.  Maybe it will catch on in other places.

Rosetta Probe dead after 10 years and billions of dollars?

   After 10 years and more money than anyone wants to admit, the Rosetta probe landed on the comet they were aiming for.

   Celebrations were short-lived, however, since the communication battery is dead and they don't know if they'll ever hear from it again.  It landed in a valley without sunlight, which would have kept the batteries charged for months.

Giants player and manager Alvin Dark dies

   Alvin Dark was the player of the year in 1948.  He served in WWII before playing in the major leagues in the 50's, '60's and '70's.

    He not only played shortstop for the Giants, but he later was their manager for many years.   He died at his home in South Carolina at the age of 92.

Charles L. Muth, Sr. of Murphys

    Charles L. "Chuck" Muth, Sr., resident of Murphys since 1985, went to be with the Lord in Elk Grove on November 13, 2014.

    Born October 19, 1920 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, his parents were Henry H. and Sadie Allwes Muth.

  November 14, 2014 at 1 PM:  A vehicle hit a fence at Orange Blossom Road and Sonora Road in Oakdale and ran.

    A male, he was last seen running on Orange Blossom Road, wearing shorts, possibly carrying a large bag of weed; has tattoos on his legs. wearing a plaid shirt and is in his 40's or 50's. Also, he has a long mustache.

Head-on Collision at Hermit Valley

  November 14, 2014 at 3:50 PM:  CHP is at the scene of a head-on collision above Lake Alpine at Hermit Valley on Hwy 4.

   Richard "Dick" Penrod of Murphys died Saturday, November 8, 2014. He was 73.

Two Bear Cubs: A Miwok Legend

   Angels Camp Museum is presenting a preschool storytime and art activity on Monday, November 17 from 10 AM to 11 AM.

   It is FREE to preschoolers and will feature the book Two Bear Cubs: A Miwok Legend from the Yosemite Valley.

Watch out for Fog

   November 14, 2014 at 8:15 AM:  Up in Ebbetts Pass and down Hwy 4 to Murphys the sun is shining and its a beautiful morning; but hit just below Vallecito and the fog hangs like a big blanket over Angels Camp and the lower county.

   Drive carefully, as it is thicker in some spots than others, and watch for deer. A doe and two fawns were crossing Hwy 4 as we approached Angels Camp.

Calaveras County burglaries reported

  On November 12, 2014 burglaries were reported on Main Street in Copperopolis and at the Calaveras County Road department in Jenny Lind.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took reports on the incidents.

Angels Camp man arrested

     On November 11, 2014 Angels Camp Police arrested  Riley Peter Thomas Segale (19) of Angels Camp in the Calaveras Lumber parking lot, for allegedly having a Concealed weapon, a Firearm in a Vehicle, a felony.

   Segale was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
