Initiatives now need fewer signatures

  Due to the low turnout in the gubernatorial election, the count for qualifying count for the next election is substantially lower.

  Instead of the requirement

Less than 50% for first time in history

  It turns out now that the entire state has been counted, 42.2% of registered voters turned out for the November ballot.

   It's the first time in California's history that less than 50% of the voters bothered to vote.  (although it has been close at times)

Car in the Canal in Modesto

   December 16, 2014 at 2 PM:  A car has gone into the canal at Eastin Road and W. Stuhr Rd in Modesto.

   One person is reportedly sitting on top of the car.  Emergency personnel is en route to the scene.

Chains required on Hwy 4

   December 16, 2014: CHP indicates that chains are now required on Hwy 4 from Poison Springs to Bear Valley. Use extra caution. Don't head up that way without chains or 4 wheel drive and snow tires.

Caltrans worker nearly hit on Hwy 99

   December 16, 2014 at 1:55 PM:  A Caltrans worker was reportedly nearly hit by an elderly woman at Hwy 99 and Cherokee, on the offramp in Lodi.

  An ambulance was first called, but the worker said he jumped out of the car in time.  SLOW FOR THE CONE ZONE!!

Calaveras Supervisors honor Supervisor Callaway

   Today, December 16, 2014 at 8 AM the Calaveras Supervisors meet and will pass a Resolution honoring Supervisor Callaway for her 21 years of service to Calaveras County.

   The Supervisors will have nearly a month off for the holidays. Must be nice.

History in the Making for Animals at Calaveras Supervisors

   Today, December 16, 2014 at the Calaveras Supervisors meeting at 9 AM, the land for a new animal shelter will be voted on.

Darrelll....oh, Darrellll...

    One of the funny incidents at the December 9, 2014 Calaveras Supervisors meeting was an owner of a garbage company, who has attended many meetings in order to advertise for more customers during public comments, wanted to thank certain Supervisors.

   First, he thanked Ms. Callaway for her many years and for assisting him; then he said he wanted to thank the other Supervisor, Darrel, for his assistance.  Darrell????  Darrell???? We're calling you, Darrell!!

Crazy Horn honking reported in Hathaway Pines

   A suspicious incident was reported nearly 50 times in Hathaway Pines due to Karen and Patrick Strohmeyer continually
blasting their horn intentionally, holding it down, every time they go up and down their driveway.

   In Penal Code 646 it is called felony stalking, added to the other harassment, trespassing, vandalism, damage to property and violence, not to mention verbal threats.

    They have been interviewed by the DA one time, but no charges have been files.  Mr. Strohmeyer has even been reported coming to my work location and sitting outside honking.

   Why don't their families get them psychiatric help?? They have both admitted they have done it.

Traffic Hazard on Hwy 49

   December 16, 2014 at 10:15 AM:  Some type of animal hazard has been reported on Hwy 49 between Jackass Hill and Tuttletown.

   CHP is en route to that location. Use extra caution if heading that way.

Traffic Collision on Hwy 4

   UPDATE at 10:25 AM: A vehicle had run off the roadway and down into a gully. Fortunately, CHP indicates there were no injuries. Lanes are not blocked.

Burglary in Copperopolis

  On December 13, 2014 a burglary was reported at a residence on Lake Tulloch Place in Copperopolis.

  The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Grand Theft in West Point and Valley Springs

     On December 15, 2014 a Grand Theft was reported by a resident on Woodhouse Mine Road in West Point.

   On the same day, a Grand Theft was reported on Hwy 12 in Valley Springs. A news rack and coins had been taken. 

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report on both incidents.

   

SPI slash burnpile causes fire at Hamm's Station

     On Thursday, December 11, 2014 a storm was headed for the Mother Lode, but before it could arrive a large slash pile that SPI was burning from one of their clear-cutting campaigns, got out of control off Hwy 88 at Hamms Station.

   Firefighters quickly arrived and limited the fire to about 15 acres and at least one outbuilding. Fortunately the rain started and extinguished the remaining fire.  Is SPI paying for all the resources for the fires they cause? 

Pickup hits tree at Hogan

  December 16, 2014 at 6:30 AM:  A white pickup has reportedly run off the roadway and hit at tree at Hogan Lake in Valley Springs.

   An ambulance and other emergency personnel are at the scene. This is between the campgrounds on the 50 MPH curve.
