Calaveras Sheriff Kuntz dies...rumors of illness true? Heart Attack??

From Calaveras Sheriff's
Department website.
UPDATE:  We have just learned that the cause of Sheriff Kuntz death is possibly from a heart attack suffered late last night.

October 30, 2015 at 8:20 AM: After hearing rumors and of noticing that Calaveras Sheriff Kuntz appeared to be ill when on KCRA channel 3 last week, this morning we have been told that he passed away sometime yesterday.

It was  first announced publicly this morning. We will give more details when they become available at a press conference later today.

Kuntz was just re-elected last year to a 2nd term. The announcement just went out to deputies over the radio scanner to fly all flags at half staff and to shroud their badges. We believe Kuntz was 63 years old.

  1. I supported Kuntz, but he had a lot of enemies because of his closeness with certain individuals.

  8. Leave you sick comments to yourself,he was a nice man that loved people. What purpose will be served by dragging his name through the mud. He tried to serve the County as best as he could, with no funds and a understaffed Dept. I hope this Dept. will heal and become more united.

  10. He may have been a nice person, but wasn't a very good sheriff many say. Sad that he died so young, but he apparently didn't take care of himself.

  12. They really do suspect a heart attack, but I think there will be an autopsy. That was on local FOX this morning.

  13. I hope the department will be more united, too. Especially how badly women were treated. Not just in the department, but victims and all.

  14. Kuntz hasn't been the same since he tried to handle the OES during the Butte Fire. Sad, but the stress got to him.

  16. What a county we live in! A bunch of gossiping, back stabbing, conniving, backwood group of folks. Listen (or read) to yourselves!
Is there no kindness, forgiving, compassionate, open minded people in this county? I mean right now you're reading this and saying ".. Well so & so was this way or so & so said something or so & so stole that..".
Let it go folks! Try and be a better human being to your neighbor! It's so friggen easy. Much less energy than being a hater.
A man died for crying out loud.

  17. You must be german. Kuntz lived the way he wanted, exactly as you call the others who are commenting. most get what they deserve, even after they die.
