Fire in West Point

This is not where the fire is, but that
area looks exactly like this! Sad what
has happened. Oliveiras forest!
    We just looked up this location on Google maps and were shocked to see the horrid amount of clear-cuts in that area.  So, did SPI cause the fire? Was this one of their hundreds of slash piles?

Why did Evan Garamendi Lose Calaveras School District seat?

   The question was asked everywhere! Why did Evan Garamendi, member of the large political Garamendi family, lose her Calaveras Unified Board seat?

   The most common thread that was told to us was that she has an entourage that includes Barbara Yook,

    Steve Kearney, of Rancho Calaveras is now a member of the Calaveras Board of Supervisors for District 5.

    We have high hopes for District 5, since his election and now swearing in for the next four years of service.

  

One person trapped in car in Hilmar

   January 15, 2015 at 12:10 PM:  A woman is apparently trapped in her vehicle after a collision at Williams Avenue and Washington Road in Hilmar.

  One lane is blocked. The black Denali is missing an axle. A tow truck was called. The other vehicle reportedly drove on.

Tanker truck causing traffic collisions in Merced

  January 15, 2015 at 12 N:  A red tanker truck is reportedly pulling a trailer that is crooked and hitting vehicles, pushing them off the roadway at Hwy 99 near Hwy 59 in Merced.

   CHP is en route to the scene of one car pushed into the center divide.

 

Jackson City Council special meeting

   The Jackson City Council in Amador County, is holding a special meeting for Closed Session meeting with counsel on two cases of litigation.

   It will be held on January 21, 2015 at 5:30 PM in City Hall in Jackson.

Animal Hazard on Mountain Ranch Road

  January 15, 2015 at 11:40 AM:  A traffic hazard, some type of animal, has been reported at Mountain Ranch Road and Calaveritas Road in San Andreas.

   CHP is en route to the scene. Use extra caution until cleared.

"Birdman" and "Grand Budapest Hotel" get 9 nominations

   The Oscar nominations for 2015 were released this mornings. "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel scored 9 nominations each.

  Neither the film "Selma" nor any non-white actors nominated for anything. Many consider it a direct snub.

Mailboxes hit in Copperopolis

  January 15, 2015 at 10:15 AM:  A hit and run was reported at Cheyenne and Papoose in Copperopolis; several mailboxes were apparently knocked down by a vehicle that left the scene.

   CHP is responding to the location.

Murphys man arrested

  On January 13, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Mark Williams Franz (34) at his home on Watkins in Murphys for alleged Assault and Battery, both felonies and for Battery on a person, a misdemeanor.

   Franz was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released on bond.

Stockton woman arrested in Angels Camp

   UPDATE on January 15, 2015:  We just learned  that only misdemeanor charges that were alleged.

City of Angels Camp still in litigation with Greenhorn residents?

   The agenda for next week's meeting of the Angels Camp City Council has a Closed Session again on Tuesday January 20, 2015 at 5 PM, for existing litigation vs Difu Croletto, Rosato and Turco.

   This is regarding the City of Angels Camp Landscaping and Lighting District #1 funds and has been in Calaveras County Superior Court for some time, Case No. 13-cv-39523. At one point we had been told the city settled this case.

Slow down! It's foggy!

  January 16, 2015 at 7:15 AM:  The fog is again thick in places. Drive carefully and slow down so you don't have an accident.

District 5 gets new Planning Commissioner

  At the Calaveras Supervisors meeting on January 13, 2015 Steve Kearney named David Tunno to be his Planning Commissioner for 2015.

   Tunno attends most Board of Supervisor meetings and has offered exceptional expertise on many subjects, especially FEMA flood insurance and the General Plan, so he should be a superior choice.
