OP-ED...Myths or Facts about Climate Change #3--Who needs snow?

   Since the scientific world (well, except for FOX News) has accepted that humans are basically causing climate change, or global warming, we need to cut down all these trees to release the water they hold to the farmers and southern California!  Myth or fact?  You decide!

Cal Fire to simulate large-scale wildfire in Calaveras

   Cal Fire is looking for volunteers to play the role of evacuees in a large-scale wildfire simulation it has planned on April 16, 2015.

   It will be held in the West Point area along the North Fork of the Mokelumne River. Contact Dennis Lewis at for more information. Lunch will be provided.

Mountain Ranch car crash

   To our readers:  We have removed the article about the car crash that resulted in a fatality in Mountain Ranch.   This is a tragedy all around for many Calaveras residents.

   This is out of consideration for all of the families involved.  Our sincere regrets for your loss to the family of the young person who lost her life.

Friends of the Fair meet at Camps

   The next Friends of the Fair board meeting is Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 6 PM at Camps Restaurant in Angels Camp.

     On the agenda is the Ranch House addition, along with other committee reports as they get ready for the 2015 Calaveras County Fair.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Traffic Collision at Pardee Dam

   February 12, 2015 at 9:15 AM:  A vehicle crash took out around 100' of EBMUD fencing on Pardee Dam Road near Watertown Road at Pardee.

   No injuries have been reported. A tow truck is responding to the scene.

Traffic Collision on Hwy 99

   February 12, 2015 at  6:55 AM:  A traffic collision involving 2 vehicles was reported at Hwy 99 and the Hwy 120 connection in Manteca.

   One person is reportedly out walking on the roadway taking photos of the accident. CHP is en route to the scene. It isn't yet known if there are injuries.  Use extra caution if headed that way.
