One in custody after road rage type collision in Stockton

   April 30, 2015 at 6:30 PM:  A traffic collision was reported at Hammer Lane and Hwy 99 with a white pickup and a white sedan involved.

    One person was arrested after the driver of the other vehicle said it was apparently intentional. No injuries were indicated.

Traffic Collision in Riverbank

  April 30, 2015 at 4:30 PM:  A traffic collision was reported at Oakdale Road and Hwy 108 in Riverbank  involving a grey BMW and an SRCC vehicle.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Use extra caution if headed that way.

  

Supervisor Oliveira wants buses wrapped in flags??

   For the second time, Supervisor Oliveira asked about advertising on the Calaveras Transit buses. As most anyone knows, they are already under contract for advertising.

   Then he said that he closest friend George Fry wants them wrapped as flags for the veterans! HUH???

Angels Camp City Council meets

   On Tuesday May 5, 2015 the Angels Camp City Council meets at 4 PM at the Firehouse for a Study Session on Tourism and Business Expansion Study.  Now there's a joke!!

  The City wants to eliminate the old businesses and bring in the big box companies. Even their General Plan has NO place for retention of businesses.  They continue to try and eliminate those who don't like their bad policies.

Car and brush fire in Livingston

   April 30, 2015 at 1:30 PM:  A car fire has turned into a brush fire on Hwy 99 at Sultana in Livingston.

   CalFire is responding. Use extra care in that area.

ACLU says "Film the Police!"

   The ACLU has echoed what the SierraSentinel.com has been saying for years now, that the public needs to "FILM THE POLICE".

   It isn't just for the big cities; there have been a number of questionable actions by Calaveras County deputies. Use your cameras for the benefit of everyone.

SUV Overturns on Hwy 88

   April 30, 2015 at 12 PM:  A gold SUV overturned at Hwy 88 and Harney Lane and is blocking the roadway there in Stockton.

   CHP is at the scene. An ambulance and a tow truck are en route. Use caution if headed in that direction.

Supervisor Oliveira learns about Transit--finally!!

Semi with trailers overturns in Tuolumne

   A semi with two trailers overturned at Cherokee and Tuolumne in Tuolumne, spilling dirt all over the roadway.

   No injuries have been reported, but the roadway is a mess. Avoid the area if possible until they can get it cleaned up and the semi uprighted.

Supervisor Oliveira doesn't understand TRANSIT

     At the April 28, 2015 joint session of the Angels Camp City Council/ Calaveras Supervisors study session Mr. Oliveira asked the Public Works Director why the Transit is NOT breaking even and how he intends to correct that problem.

  Since this is a ridiculous question (Public transit is for the public, not a for-profit agency), the answers were naturally vague and the only money question answered was that they are receiving less money now from the government than before.

Homeless woman walking in traffic

   April 30, 2015 at 9:20 AM:  A homeless woman has been reportedly walking in and out of traffic at Ferretti Road and Hwy 120 in Groveland.

   CHP is en route to the location. Use extra caution if heading in that direction.

Two parked cars hit in Lodi

   April 30, 2015 at 9 AM:  A green Hyundai hit two parked cars on North Extension Road, just off Hwy 12 in Lodi.

   No one was in the cars at the time they were hit, so there were no injuries. CHP is at the scene and a tow truck has been dispatched.

Traffic Hazard on Murphys Grade Road

   UPDATE:  The roadway is now clear.

  April 30, 2015 at 8:30 AM:  CHP is at the scene of a traffic hazard on the Murphys Grade Road near Main Street, just outside Murphys.

   It isn't clear what the hazard is, but be extra cautious if headed that way.

Calaveras Council of Governments talks bicycle paths

     At the May 6, 2015 meeting of the Calaveras Council of Governments there is an agendized item on bicycle, pedestrian and safe walks to school.

   There is also the regular report on Calaveras Transit, a regular bi-annual agenda item. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM in the Calaveras Supervisors Chambers in San Andreas.

Caltrans paving Hwy 132

  Starting Monday, May 4, 2015 Caltrans will begin paving 10 miles of roadway on Hwy 132, from 2 miles north of Rushing Road to the Stanislaus/Tuolumne County line.

   Expect one-way traffic with 10 minute delays. The work is scheduled to be completed by George Reed, Inc. sometime in August.

Today is last Free Burning Day of 2015

  CalFire is reminding everyone that tomorrow is the day when you must have a burn permit in order to burn debris piles at your residence.

   Conditions are dry and extra caution is needed if burning landscape debris piles. Be sure to follow the rules once you get your permit for 2015.

Fire near Coulterville

   April 29, 2015 at 2:30 PM:  A fire has been reported at Granite Springs Drive and Penon Blanc Road in the Coulterville area.

   The roadway is blocked. Avoid the area if possible so fire equipment can get through.

Fire in Phoenix Lake area

   April 29, 2015 at 2:15 PM:  A brush fire has been reported in the Phoenix Lake area at Phoenix Lake Road and Meadow Brook Drive.

   CAlFire is responding to the scene. Be careful if in that area.

Big Rig Jackknifed in Groveland

   April 29, 2015 at 9:05 AM:  A big rig has jackknifed and is blocking Hwy 120 at Big Oak Flat Road in Groveland.

   Use extra caution until CHP and a tow truck can clear the roadway. No injuries reported, but traffic is backed up for quite a distance.

Burglary in Valley Springs

   On April 28, 2015 a resident on Hwy 12 in Valley Springs reported that someone had entered through their fence and stolen patio furniture and plants.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report of the incident.

Mountain Ranch man arrested

   On April 28, 2015  the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Matthew John Delarosa (38) of Mountain Ranch, at his residence on Michel Road in Mountain Ranch.

   He is alleged to have Assaulted with a Deadly Weapon, not a Firearm, for Stalking and Using Tear Gas, etc, all felonies and for Violating a Court Order to Prevent Domestic Violence and Battery, both misdemeanors.  Delarosa was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Sierra MacIntosh Users meet

   On May 12, 2015 the Sierra MacIntosh Users Group (SMUG) meets at 7 PM at the Ebbetts Pass Fire Department on Blagen Road in Arnold.

Collision on Hwy 12 in Lockeford

   April 29, 2015 at 7:05 AM:  A collision has been reported between a maroon Chevy SUV and a white pickup pulling a trailer in Lockeford on Hwy 12.

  Per CHP the roadway is not blocked and no injuries have been indicated.

   April 29, 2015 at 7 AM:  A small pig has been reported on Hwy 99 south at Hwy 12, in the center divide in Lodi.

   Animal control has been notified. CHP is en route to the area. Be extra careful if headed in that direction.

Carpet on I-5 in Patterson

   April 29, 2015 at 6:30 AM:  A truck apparently rolled over and spilled carpet in the lanes of I-5 near Fink Road in Patterson.

    CHP and a clean up crew are dispatched to the area. Use caution until they clear the area.

Big Rig rolls over on Hwy 99

   UPDATE at 7 AM:  Traffic is backed up in the area. A big rig tow has been dispatched to upright the big rig.  The driver was pinned in the truck.

Traffic collision in Modesto

   April 28, 2015 at 2:20 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 132 and Geer Road in Modesto between a white pickup and a Honda Pilot.

   One person apparently has head injuries. CHP is at the scene. A tow truck has been dispatched. Use caution in that area.

  April 28, 2015 at 8:40 AM:  Several reports came into CHP about a cat limping in the center divide at I 205 and Mountain House Parkway.

  Animal Control was called. How did a cat get out on I 205? Was it dumped there? CHP is also en route to the area.

Calaveras Supervisors/Angels Camp City Council meet together

  If you normally attend the Calaveras Supervisors meetings, don't forget that they are meeting at 3 PM today, along with the Angels Camp City Council in San Andreas.

Mountain Lion reported in San Andreas

and hunt in Calaveras County
to survive.
  On April 26, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff received a call of a mountain lion on Russell Road in San Andreas.

   Apparently the mountain lion was eating a deer it had killed out by the pool area.  No report was taken by the Sheriff's Office.

   At least mountain lions only hunt and kill to survive, unlike humans, who hunt and kill for fun!!!

Donut Theft in San Andreas?

  A business on St. Charles Street in San Andreas called the Calaveras Sheriff for some stolen "donuts".

   According to the Sheriff's Office, no donuts had been stolen. hmmmmm

Puppy Stolen in Sheep Ranch

  On April 26, 2015 a resident on Armstrong Road in Sheep Ranch reported that a puppy had been stolen.
  
   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Burglary on Main Street in Murphys

  On April 26, 2015 a caller told the Calaveras Sheriff to document that there had been a burglary on Main Street in Murphys.

   Vandalism and missing items reported. The Calaveras Sheriff did not take a report.

Elderly Dependent theft arrest

  On April 26, 2015 Gregory Scott Carroll (54) of Burson was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Stealing from an Elderly Dependent over $400, a felony.

   Carroll was released the same day.

Sutter County head-on collision kills three brothers

  A fiery crash on Hwy 113 in Sutter County resulted in the deaths of three brothers, all in their 20's on Saturday.

   The driver of a Ford pickup over-corrected after veering off the side of the road and hit a Honda head-on, causing the deaths.  The driver of the pickup was arrested for alleged DUI and Manslaughter.

  UPDATE:  It turns out that Corinthian Colleges, the parent company for Heald owes the Federal Government millions, as a for-profit college.

Congressman McClintock votes AGAINST Seniors Medicare

   Calaveras County has a high percentage of retired citizens, who depend on Medicare for their health coverage.   The House Speaker Boehner, backed by Democrats and Republicans,  passed HR 2, the measure to continue the payments to physicians for both seniors and children by a vote of 393-37.

   And guess who voted against seniors Medicare; our very own Congressman McClintock. He made some excuse, but there is NO legitimate one.   How can any senior vote for this man to represent us in Congress??

Pedestrian struck by car in Atwater

   April 27, 2015 at 8:55 AM:  A pedestrian reportedly was hit by a vehicle at Mulberry and Quinley in Atwater.

   April 26, 2015 at 2 PM:  A silver Taurus ran off the road and hit a fence avoiding another vehicle that left the scene at Hwy 26 and Avalon, near Stockton.

   No injuries were reported. CHP is at the scene.

Motorcycle down on Hwy 49

   April 26, 2015 at 12:25 PM:  CHP is at the scene of a motorcycle that went down on Hwy 49 in Carson Hill, just outside Angels Camp.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Avoid the area if you can until cleared. No other vehicles were involved.

Car rolls multiple times at San Luis Reservoir

   April 26, 2015 at 12:20 PM:  A car ran off the Hwy 152 near the near the Romero Visitor Center at San Luis Reservoir and rolled multiple times, according to a witness.

   Two CHP and Fire EMS are en route to the scene.  Use caution if in that area.

Chevy Cruise on Fire in Ione area

  UPDATE:  The fire is out and a tow truck is responding for the Chevy.

Several Gunfire reports in Calaveras

   On April 25, 2015 gunfire was reported on Sparrowk Road and Stinson View Road in Valley Springs; on Lewis Avenue in San Andreas; on Warren Road and Hwy 26 in Jenny Lind; on Conestoga Trail in Copperopolis; and on St. Andrews Road and La Contenta Drive in Valley Springs.

  Three calls were made out of fear within 16 minutes of each other. The Calaveras Sheriff took no reports of the gunfire. Residents need to continue reporting it, however. This Sheriff is well-known as one of the gun group who can do no wrong, sadly.

Hwy 12 burglary in Wallace

   On April 25, 2015 a resident on Hwy 12 in Wallace reported a burglary, but then said they would have to call back; was unavailable now.

   The Calaveras Sheriff did not take a report at that time.

Burglary in Valley Springs

  On April 25, 2015 a burglary was reported by a resident on Barde Road in Valley Springs.

  The Calaveras Sheriff took a report.

Giants play Rockies today

   After winning one and losing two games to the Dodgers last week at home, the Giants are in Denver today to play the Rockies.

   The game will be on CBS at 1 PM.

Fatal Rollover on Hwy 99

   UPDATE:  There was some confusion due to another collision at Sultana three minutes before this one. Injuries were minor in that collision, also at Hwy 99.

The best things about a rainy day...

   On this rare rainy day we find that the best things we enjoy in the rain is the wonderful smell of the forest, washed clean and given a much needed drink and  a warm fire in the fireplace.

   Another good thing about the rain is the fact that Calaveras KKK's don't like to go out from under their rocks in the rain because they are afraid they'll melt!

Two Chihuahuas on Hwy 99

  April 25, 2015 at 4:40 PM:  Two Chihuahuas were reported running down the edge of Hwy 99 at Acampo in the Acampo area.

Man arrested on Murphys Grade Road

  On April 24, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Eddy Marshall Botelho (69) of Angels Camp at his residence on the Murphys Grade Road for alleged Assault with a Firearm, a felony.

   Botelho was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Broken down vehicle at Toyon

   April 25, 2015 at 2:40 PM:  A vehicle that appears to be broken down is in the passing lane on Hwy 12 near Toyon.

   Apparently a man has the hood up and is looking at the engine.  Be extra cautious if headed in that direction.  CHP is en route.

Pickup rolls over in Ione

   UPDATE:  This was a major injury collision. The roadway is now clear per CHP.

Car hits tree near Volcano

   April 25, 2015 at 12:10 PM:  A car left the road and hit a tree at Pine Grove Volcano Road and Volcano Pioneer Road, just outside Volcano.

    No injuries have been reported, but be extra cautious in that area as CHP and a tow truck clear the roadway.

Collision in Mokelumne Hill

   April 25, 2015 at 12 Noon:  CHP is en route to a collision reported at Hwy 26 and Montgomery Road in Mokelumne Hill.

  No injuries were reported, but it is partially blocking the roadway so use extra caution until CHP can clear it.

   What he intends to do next is unclear. The family of the past Olympian says they support his decision to go public.

Chevy runs off Murphys Grade Road

   April 25, 2015 at 10:55 AM:  A Chevy S10 has been reported running of the Murphys Grade Road near French Gulch Road just outside Murphys.

   CHP is en route to the scene. No injuries have been reported. Be cautious as CHP and other emergency vehicles will be in the area.

Grand Theft in Mountain Ranch

   On April 24, 2015 a resident on Green Ranch Road in Mountain Ranch reported that equipment had been stolen from outside the house, amounting to Grand Theft due to the value.

     The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Trouble at the Car Wash

    On April 24, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office were called to the Sequoia Car Wash in Arnold, where a woman was reporting an assault and injuries.

   The deputy made an arrest in the incident, which was apparently a domestic dispute of some type.



  

Burglary in Burson

   On April 24, 2015 a vehicle burglary was reported by a resident  on Brandy Lane in Burson.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Car upside down in Irrigation ditch

   April 25, 2015 at 9:50 AM:  A car was reported upside down in an irrigation ditch at Eight Mile Road and Rio Blanco Road near White Slough in Stockton.

   The driver got out ok and a tow truck has been dispatched.  Eight Mile Road will be closed in the area while they retrieve the car from the water.

Large Branch on Hwy 12

   April 25, 2015 at 9:30 AM:  A large branch has been reported in the roadway at Hwy 12 and Knoll Road in the Lodi area.

   Use caution if in that area. Caltrans has been notified of the need to remove the branch.

Car vs Embankment in Rancho Calaveras

   April 25, 2015 at 9 AM:  A solo vehicle reportedly hit the embankment at Silver Rapid Road and Hogan Dam Road in Rancho Calaveras.

   No injuries have been reported, but be cautious if you're in that area, as a tow truck will be removing the vehicle.

Hwy 99 and Charter Way underpass flooded

   April 24 2015 at 7 AM:  CHP awaits a Caltrans crew to pump the flooded water from the Hwy 99 and Charter Way underpass in Stockton.

   Warning signs are out that the roadway is closed temporarily due to the flooding.

Woman reported laying on Copper Cove Drive

   April 25 2015 at 6:05 AM:  CHP is en route to Copper Cove Drive near Feather Drive where it has been reported that a woman is laying face down in the roadway.

   No other details are available.  Use extra caution if headed for that area in Copperopolis.

Rain...Rain....Don't go away!!

   April 25, 2015 at 6 AM:  Rain will continue in Calaveras County throughout the morning, and we are all  glad to see it.

   Snow totals could be 8" in the upper elevations. Even better news!  Roadway flooding and branches down have been reported in various places, so drive carefully!

Pickup hits tree near Frogtown

   April 24, 2015 at 4:55 PM:  A silver 4x4 pickup that went off the road at Hwy 49 and Gun Club Road and hit a tree was reported.

   An ambulance is responding. Two CHP are at the scene. A tow truck has been dispatched.

PIckup with Camper rollover

  UPDATE at 5:20 PM:   An Izusu Trooper is reportedly on it side at that location. A tow truck is en route to the scene.

10 Crates of Tomato plants on Hwy 152

   April 24, 2015 at 5 PM:  A big rig carrying tomato plants (around 10 crates) collided with some type of patrol vehicle at Hwy 152 and I-5 in the Los Banos area.

   Caltrans was called out to clean up the plants off the roadway and an ambulance responded to an injured person.  Tow trucks were dispatched for both vehicles.  Avoid the area if possible until cleared.

Jackson City Council (Amador County) meets

   The Jackson City Council meets on April 27, 2015 at 7 PM at City Hall on Broadway in Jackson, (Amador County).

   On the agenda is approving the Fireworks for July 3, 2015, along with introducing three new employees and a Proclamation honoring Dahkota Brown.

  

Grass Fire in Modesto area

   A grass fire has been reported at Hwy 219 and Dale Road in the Modesto area. CalFire is responding to the scene.

   Be extra cautious if in the area due to smoke.

Ryder truck and Cadillac collide

   April 24, 2015 at 2 PM:  A Ryder truck and a Cadillac have reportedly collided at I-5 and March Lane in Stockton.  There may have been a third vehicle involved.

   April 24, 2015 at 1:40 PM:  A traffic collision was reported at Hwy 108 and Mono Way in Sonora between a Chrysler Town and Country and a pickup.

   April 24, 2015 at 1 PM:  A blue Chevy pickup and a blue Ford pickup collided on Tuolumne Road and Standard Road in Sonora.

Traffic Collision on Hwy 99

   April 24, 2015 at 9:50 AM:  A traffic collision between a red Honda and a black Audi was reported on southbound Hwy 99 at Farmington Road in Stockton.

   No injuries were reported but it is blocking one lane. Use extra caution if headed that way.

"Everybody Loves Raymond" child actor commits suicide

   One of the twin boys who played the children in the TV series "Everybody Loves Raymond" has reportedly died of suicide, according to his family.

Arrest made in Copper Wire theft

   Stanislaus County Rural Crimes Detectives arrested 26 year old John Evans and 25 year old Shalene Wise, both from Modesto, as a result of their investigation into the theft

Loretta Lynch confirmed as Attorney General

   After what we considered was fairly light questioning, Loretta Lynch was confirmed today as Attorney General of the US.

   He ability to remain totally calm under pressure is probably her most valuable asset. We were impressed.

Burglary reported in Arnold

   On April 22, 2015 a burglary was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff by a resident on Tipton House Way in Arnold.

   The Sheriff's Office took a report.

School bus collision in Madera

   April 23, 2015 at 3:40 PM:  A school bus has had a collision at E. Olive and S. Gateway in Madera with 6 students on board.

   No injuries were reported. Three CHP are at the scene. Use caution if in that area.

Keep on filming the cops!!!

  It was a shocking thing to watch!  The video of a US Marshal here in California actually assaulting a woman who is trying to film them is so important.

   In this case, someone was filming a Marshal attacking a person filming, violently grabbing her phone and stomping on it, then kicking it.

   The woman attacked by the US Marshal intends to file a lawsuit!  Good for her. Take out your phones or cameras and keep on filming. It's our only protection against the cops!!!

FedEx truck vs tractor in Modesto

   April 23, 2015 at 1:10 PM:  A FedEx truck and a tractor have collided at Dunn Road and Beckwith Road in the Modesto area.

Suspicious persons or circumstances in Calaveras County

  On April 22, 2015 it was reported as suspicious that on Westhill Drive in Valley Springs a woman was screaming and a man was walking away. No report was taken by the Calaveras Sheriff.

   An officer saw a suspicious person and arrested him on local warrants on Hwy 4 in Arnold.

   A suspicious person was reported on St. Charles Street in San Andreas as a male hitting himself on the head. No report was taken.

  

Collision in Lodi area

   April 23, 2015 at 11:35 AM:  A collision has been reported between a blue Toyota and a black Honda at Harney Lane and Lower Sacramento Road in the Lodi area.

Truck in Ditch in Jenny Lind

   April 23, 2015 at 11:30 AM:  A truck is reportedly in a ditch at Hwy 26 and Olive Orchard Road in Jenny Lind.

   It is sticking out into the roadway so be cautious until CHP can arrive and move it.

Burglary in Mountain Ranch

   On April 22, 2015 a burglary was reported by a resident on Michel Road in Mountain Ranch.

   The Calaveras Sheriff did not take a report of the incident.

Telephone line (copper wire) theft causes wide outage

   According to Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies, a major AT&T line in La Grange was stolen by vandals sometime in the early morning hours of April 22, 2015.

Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass and Sonora Pass Hwy 108 closed

   April 23, 2015 at 8 AM:  We just received notification that Caltrans has closed Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass at Lake Alpine and Hwy 108 Sonora Pass at Kennedy Meadows.

   This is in anticipation of a snowstorm expected sometime early today and tonight. Rain is expected in the foothills.

Three men from Stockton killed in Hwy 50 crash

  Early Wednesday morning a wrong-way driver on Hwy 50 was killed when she struck head-on a truck with three men from Stockton inside.

No "opt out" of vaccination requirements?

  If the current bill requiring all children to get vaccinated to attend California public school passes, the "opt out" for personal beliefs will take a back seat to the belief that children who are not vaccinated puts others in danger.

   This was most evident due to the Disneyland measles outbreak, which affected nearly 150 people in several states.  The education committee passed the new bill in a vote of 7-2.

School Bus hits rocks in Coulterville area

   April 21, 2015 at 4:15 PM:  A school bus has reportedly hit some rocks on Schilling Road near Hwy 49 in the Coulterville area.

Repossessed truck ends in suicide at Maita Chevrolet

   A repo man was taking back the truck of 29 year old John Connor and was a Maita Chevrolet in Elk Grove, where it had been sold.

   Mr. Connor chased the repo man into the lot and confronted him. Maita called the police and Conner reportedly killed himself with his own gun.

Teen killed by train in Truckee

  A 13 year old boy who was on the train bridge looking down at the Truckee River was hit and killed by a passing train yesterday.

   I-80 had to be shut down while helicopters brought in train investigators to the area.  No foul play is suspected.

Willie Nelson announces own Pot Brand

  There has never been much of a secret about famed singer Willie Nelson's love of pot. Now, though, he's decided to make it profitable.

Amber Alert Issued for Toyota Corolla

  UPDATE:  This Amber Alert has now been cancelled. The stolen car was found abandoned about 2 miles from the home. The boy had been asleep in the car when it was taken and is safe.

Amador Supervisors holding Special Meeting

   The Amador County Supervisors are holding a Special Board meeting tomorrow, April 21, 2015 we believe at 9 AM (although it says 9PM in another location) to decide whether to sign a letter opposing AB 652, which relinquishes Hwy 16 in Sacramento County, back to that county.

  We sent an email to the Board Chair asking why they oppose the bill. Will let you know what they say.

Sonora Police hiring new officer

   The Sonora Police Department has announced that they are currently recruiting for an officer. The position is open to Academy graduates or lateral officers.

   The base salary is from  $4378 to $5321 a month. An application is available at sonoraca.com or stop by the Sonora Police Department.

   The press release does not have a deadline, so it must be until filled. Testing will be shortly.

Giants lose to Diamondbacks 5-1

   After yesterday's loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Giants have a 4 win and 10 loss season.

   When a fire department in Idaho responded to a call about a fire at a house, they could hear the cries from outside, "Help!" and "Fire!"

Burglary in Mountain Ranch

  On April 19, 2015 a burglary was reported at a cabin on Waldears Path in Mountain Ranch.

  The Sheriff took a report on the break in. No other details are currently available. Later on that day a report was made that the chain to a gate had been cut at that location.

Traffic Collision in Groveland

   April 20, 2015 at 9:50 AM:  A gray Subaru Forester was reportedly involved in a traffic collision on Hwy 120 at Hardin Flat Road in Groveland.

   An ambulance is responding to the collision. It is not blocking the roadway. Also a deer was involved and was killed in this collision.

Cow on Calaveritas Road

   April 20, 2015 at 9:45 AM:  A black cow has been reported on Calaveritas Road at Old Gulch Road in San Andreas.

   On April 19, 2015 suspicious circumstances were reported to the Calaveras Sheriff about a possible break-in on Chile Camp Road in Campo Seco.

   April 20, 2015 at 9 AM:  A can of paint fell off a truck at Hwy 108 and Twain Harte Drive in Twain Harte.

   April 19, 2015 at 6 PM:  A hit and run traffic collision has been reported at the Black Oak Casino parking garage in Tuolumne.

   The suspect was last seen driving on Tuolumne Drive. CHP is en route to the scene. No injuries were reported.

  At around 1:30 AM on April 18, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff received a report of a man out in Murphys without any clothes on.

CalFire: Permits required May 1, 2015

   As of May 1, 2015 at 8 AM the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the CalFire will require burning permits within the State Responsibility areas of Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus and Eastern San Joaquin County.

   Burn hours will also be restricted to evening hours 7 PM to 8 AM. Go to your local CalFire office to apply.

Van over embankment on Hwy 49

   April 17, 2015 at 4:40 PM:  A tan van has reportedly gone over the embankment off Hwy 49 near Deer Creek Road, just outside Angels Camp.

   No injuries have been reported. A tow truck is responding to the scene. Use caution in the area while emergency crews are working.

Car hits loose tires in Sutter Creek

   April 17, 2015 at 3 PM:  A pickup carrying tires lost them and the car behind hit them at Ridge Road and Hwy 49 in Sutter Creek, according to a report.

Pallets spilled all across Hwy 4 crosstown

   April 17, 2015 at 1:35 PM:  It was just reported to CHP that pallets have been spilled all across Hwy 4 the crosstown freeway in Stockton,  on the westbound side.

   Use caution until someone can get out there and remove them.

   April 17, 2015 at 1:30 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 49 and Hwy 88 in Jackson.

   CHP is on scene. An ambulance is responding. According to a caller, all vehicles are off the roadway.

Traffic Collision in Escalon

   April 17, 2015 at 1:15 PM:  CHP is en route to a traffic collision on Hwy 120 at Main Street in Escalon.

   A tow truck and ambulance are also responding Head injuries were reported. Use caution if in that area as the vehicles are blocking the roadway.

Two dogs at Hwy 99 and Farmington Road

   Be extra careful if you are headed for Hwy 99 on Farmington Road, as two dogs have been reported in the roadway at that location in Stockton.

   CHP is en route to the scene and animal control has been notified.

Sonora Pass now open

   We just received a press release from Caltrans that the Sonora Pass, or Hwy 108, is open as of today April 17, 2015.

   Also open is Tioga Pass or Hwy 120 is open through Yosemite, but remains closed over the remainder of the pass.   This will continue, determined by weather conditions.

DOW falls 284 points

  At the close of the markets in the US today the DOW had fallen 284 points. There were three possible reasons given for the fall.

   China banned the over-the-counter margin calls; there was a rumor that Greece may leave the ECB and Bloomberg's terminals were down for awhile today.

David Montgomery of San Andreas

  David Lyle Montgomery passed away April 14, 2015 at the age of 56.

   David was born in San Andreas on October 25, 1958 and attended local schools, graduating from Calaveras High School

Gold Fire off Hwy 49

   CalFire responded to a report of a fire near the Gold Beach trailer park on Hwy 49 yesterday afternoon in El Dorado County.

    It reached 14 acres before it was suppressed. CalFire stayed throughout Thursday night to keep an eye on the fire area. No evacuations were necessary, and no structures were threatened.

Ann Mazzaferro returns to Calaveras Fairground Stage

   April 17, 2015 at 8:55 AM:  CHP is en route to a reported traffic hazard on Fifth Green Drive near Fairway Drive in Arnold, where a traffic hazard has been reported.

  It isn't clear yet what the hazard is, but be cautious in that area until CHP can clear.

Collision on Hwy 99

  April 17, 2015 at 8:50 AM:  A collision between a Honda and a Toyota at southbound Hwy 99 and Peltier Road in Stockton has been slowing traffic in the area.

   An ambulance and tow truck are responding to the area. Use extra caution until cleared.

   Years of  controversy were stirred up again at the Calaveras Supervisors meeting on Tuesday April 14, 2015, when the CAO attempted to have the committee dissolved.

   The Angels Camp City Council is meeting on April 21, 2015 at 4 PM at the Firehouse to introduce "Permitted and Conditional Use" to someone--the public?? The Planning Commission?? It is apparently just a draft chapter they made up

"Passport in Time" in Stanislaus National Forest

   The Stanislaus National Forest is announcing the 7th annual cultural event called Sierra Footsteps Passport in Time in July 2015.

   From July 9 to 12, 2015 the public is invited to explore the rich history of California Me-Wuk Indians lifeways which will be held at the Wakaluu Hepyoo Campground which is in the Calaveras Ranger Station of the Stanislaus National Forest.

Police Officer arrested for drug trafficking

   A Yuba City Police Officer was one of the arrests made by federal officers for an alleged cocaine trafficking scheme.

   The officer was also suspected to be using police communications to track federal investigators to help a family member, according to reports.
  

Tree down on Hwy 88

   April 16, 2015 at 9 AM:  A tree is down on Hwy 88 near Comstock Road in the Lodi area, blocking half of one lane.

   Use caution if headed in that direction until crews can get out there a clear it.

National Parks Free this weekend

Ward Fire in Plumas National Forest

  April 16, 2015 at 8:25 AM:  The USFS has the Ward Fire still at 80% containment this morning. They will work today to widen the containment lines around the 157 acre fire.

   There have been no injuries and no structures have been involved in this fire.

Collision in Modesto

   April 16, 2015 at 8:15 AM:  CHP is at the scene of a traffic collision between a yellow Toyota pickup and a sliver Mazda at Hwy 132 and Grimes Avenue in Modesto.
 
   One vehicle has to be towed. No injuries were reported. Be careful in that area until clear.

Solo Vehicle rollover in Waterford

   April 16, 2015 at 8 AM:  A solo vehicle has rolled over into an orchard off Hwy 132 and Crabtree Road in Waterford.

   No injuries were reported. A tow truck is en route to the scene. Use extra caution in that area.

Angels Camp man arrested

   On April 14, 2015 around 10:30 PM Angels Camp Police Department arrested Neil David Seeman (35) of Angels Camp, at his residence on Bret Harte Drive for four alleged Felonies involving False Imprisonment and Assault.

   Seeman was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Traffic Accident in Cottage Springs

   April 15, 2015 at 2:30 PM: A patrol vehicle just hit a deer and needs a tow truck on Hwy 4 in Cottage Springs.  Other CHP are en route.

   No injuries were reported. Use extra caution if in the area.

Pig on the run in Crows Landing

   April 15, 2015 at 12:35 PM:  An elderly woman has been reported chasing a pig at Crows Landing Road and Fulkerth in Crows Landing.

   The pig does not belong to the woman. She is just trying to save it from being hurt. CHP is en route to the area.

Vehicle Fire on Obyrnes Ferry Road

   UPDATE:  The person from the red car has jumped into a black car and left the scene. CalFire now has the fire contained. Southbound traffic on 108 is blocked.

Stanislaus National Forest opens roads and trails

   Despite the dangerous drought conditions, the Stanislaus National Forest has announced that they are opening many of the seasonal roads and trails as of April 15, 2015.

   They are cautioning people to be extra cautious when in the forest, to protect it from fire danger.

Blackwater guards get long prison sentences

  Yesterday the four Blackwater security guards who were charge with killing 14 Iraqi civilians in 2007 were sentence.

   The former guards received 30 year sentences for the killings, ending a dark chapter in US history.

Percy Sledge dies at 74

   Soul singer Percy Sledge has died in Louisiana of liver cancer. He was 74 years old.

   His most famous hit was "When a Man Loves a Woman" in 1966.
