Heavy Equipment Operator Training at CAL FIRE

   The CAL FIRE Academy at Ione, in coordination with the Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit, is conducting Heavy Fire Equipment Operator Training from April 20, 2015 through June 26, 2015.

   What happened 50 years ago tonite, May 5, 1965 in Menlo Park? Well, a group named the Warlocks first performed at a pizza parlor called Magoos Pizza.

   The next day they found out the name was already taken and changed their name to the "Grateful Dead!"

Elizabeth 'Betty" Mitton of Mountain Ranch

   Elizabeth Louise (Betty) Mitton, a long-time resident of Mountain Ranch, died in her home Thursday, April 30, 2015 from natural causes.

   Born on July 11, 1933, Betty was born and raised in the town

Traffic Collision on Hwy 49

  May 5, 2015 at 4:45 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 49 at Middle Bar Road near 13 curves outside Mokelumne Hill.

  CHP is en route. It isn't yet known if there are injuries. Be careful in that area.

Car hits tree in Sonora

  May 5, 2015 at 4:30 PM:  A car reportedly hit a tree at Murphy Road and Lime Kiln Road in Sonora.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Use caution if in that area.

Vehicle vs pedestrian in Standard

   May 5, 2015 at 3 PM:  A vehicle has reportedly collided with a pedestrian on Standard Road in front of Curtis School in the Standard area.

   Emergency vehicles are responding. Two vehicles are reportedly involved in the incident. Use extra caution if headed in that direction.

Seen any Bald Eagles?

   US Fish and Wildlife is trying to find out if there are bald eagles nesting in various areas of the US.

   If you should see any, photograph them if possible and notify US Fish and Wildlife through their website.

Smoke in Arnold

  UPDATE:  Whatever was going on, someone burning, etc. the smoke has dissipated and therefore the fear has also. There has still been no explanation for the events on the scanner.

Big Rig blocking Obyrnes Ferry Road in Copperoplis

   May 5, 2015 at 12 Noon:  A big rig is reportedly blocking one lane of Obyrnes Ferry Road at Reeds Turnpike in Copperopolis.

   Use extra caution if in that area until CHP can clear.

May 4, 2015 reports to Sheriff in Calaveras County

   Calaveras County Sheriff dispatch got a lot of very interesting reports on May 4, 2015. Among them were:

    Disturbances, loud music again on W. St. Charles in San Andreas,

    a female staggering

Burglary in Mokelumne HIll

   On May 4, 2015 a burglary was reported by a resident on Independence Road in Mokelumne Hill. The home had been broken into and items stolen.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report of the incident.

Motorcycle collision in Sonora

   UPDATE at 10:25 AM:  The roadway is now clear.

  UPDATE:  CHP is at the scene. A tow truck is responding.

Valley Springs Sexual Abuse Suspect arrested at UC Davis

   On May 4, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Jessie Barron, III (35) of Valley Springs, at UC Davis for alleged sexual offenses of a minor, including Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Oral Copulation of a victim under 10 years of age, on a local warrant with 10 other felonies listed, most relating to sexual abuse of a child, arson, firearms, etc.

  Barron was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Angels Camp man arrested

   On May 4, 2015 the Angels Camp Police Department arrested Riley Peter Thomas Segale (20) of Angels Camp in the Save Mart parking lot for alleged Robbery, Burglary, Conspiracy and Infliction of Corporal injury on a Spouse, all felonies and for Damaging or Destroying a Wireless Device, a misdemeanor.

   Segale was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Logging Truck blocking Hwy 49

   UPDATE:  CHP reports that one logging truck was attempting to tow another logging truck with a chain. CalFire has moved both vehicles out of the roadway. The Hwy is now clear.

Happy Cinco de Mayo

Collision on Hwy 88

   May 5, 2015 at 6:30 AM:  Four CHP are at the scene of a traffic collision at Hwy 88 and Eight Mile Road in the Lodi area.

   No injuries have been reported, but the roadway is blocked. Use extra care in that area until CHP can tow the vehicles and clear the road..

Richard Lenfest of Paloma

   Richard E. Lenfest was born August 23, 1934 in Stockton and died of natural causes on April 29, 2015 at his home in Paloma. He was 80.
