Chains now required just east of Arnold

   Caltrans has lowered the elevation where chains are required on Hwy 4 in Calaveras County.

   Now you must have chains or 4 wheel drive with snow tires just 1 mile east of Arnold.  Be careful if you must go out in this wonderful, much needed storm.

Multiple collisions in Fishcamp area

  May 7, 2015 at 2:50 PM:  Due to the snow, multiple vehicles have either had collisions or just become stuck in the snow in the Fishcamp area of Hwy 41.

   According to CHP, the roadway is backed up for quite a ways until tow trucks can get in and move the stuck vehicles.  Do not travel in this direction unless absolutely necessary. You'll be there awhile.

Honda in ditch in Pine Grove

  May 7, 2015 at 2:40 PM:   CHP is en route to a report of a  black Honda Civic running off the roadway and into a ditch at Hwy 88 and Gayla Drive in Pine Grove.

   No injuries have been reported but be extra careful in that area until cleared.

Two big rigs collide on Hwy 12

   May 7, 2015 at 11:10 AM:  Two big rigs are blocking part of eastbound Hwy 12 at Thornton Road in Lodi after colliding there.

   CHP is en route. No injuries were reported, but use extra caution if headed that way.

Vehicle rollover in Turlock

   May 7, 2015 at 10:35 AM:  A black vehicle reportedly rolled off the roadway and down an embankment, landing back on its wheels at Hwy 99 and Golden State Boulevard in Turlock.

   CHP is en route to the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Collision on Hwy 99 in Modesto

   May 7, 2015 at 10:30 AM:  A traffic collision was reported at southbound Hwy 99 and Broadway in Modesto where a Volkswagen Jetta hit the concrete divide.

   An ambulance is attempting to reach the scene. CHP is present and a tow truck has been dispatched.

Hwy 108 Chain Control

   Caltrans is advising that chains are now required on Hwy 108 at Little Sweden. Drive carefully if headed for the mountains today.

Berryhill and Bigelow jump frogs

   The Calaveras County Fairground sent us this photo of Calaveras Counties state elected officials Berryhill and Bigelow, looking through the froggie.

   The Capitol jump was the occasion. Winners will be in the finals at the County Fair next week.

Dead animal reported on Hwy 49

   May 7, 2015 at 10 AM:  CHP was notified that there is a dead dog or deer on Hwy 49 near Union Mine Road outside San Andreas.

   CHP is attempting to handle all the calls, but simply do not have enough patrol vehicles on duty for this many calls. They will handle it when they can; meantime drive cautiously in that area.

Another overturned vehicle in Arnold-Heavy Hail on roadways

   May 7, 2015 at 9:40 AM:  An overturned vehicle has now been reported at Moran Road and Lightning Road on a blind curve in Arnold. 

White Ford overturns in Arnold

   UPDATE at 10:30 AM:  This should not have been cleared. CHP has returned to this location and now a tow truck is responding. It was actually at Chaparral and Sultana in Arnold.

Dwight Edwin 'Ed' Baker of Calaveras County

      Dwight Edwin 'Ed' Baker was born on November 21, 1939 to Fred and Mona Baker in Ione.

    Ed attended Calaveras County Elementary Schools and Calaveras High School.

White House approved Ferry to Cuba

   For the first time in 50 years, a Ferry to Cuba has been approved by the White House.

   Also JetBlue has announced flights from NYC to Cuba to begin shortly.

Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass closed - chains required

   Caltrans has just issued a closure report of Ebbetts Pass on Hwy 4 at Bear Valley and issued a chains required for Hwy 4 at Cottage Springs.

   Be careful if you are driving up that way. The roadway is slick.

Another Collision on Hwy 26 - SLOW DOWN!

   May 7, 2015 at 9 AM:  Another collision has been reported on Hwy 26, this time at Driver Road in Rancho Calaveras.

   This is a solo vehicle accident. Use extra caution if in that area.  This makes the 5th traffic collision in Calaveras County in the hour between 8 and 9 AM. SLOW DOWN!

Collision on Hwy 12 in Valley Springs

   May 7, 2015 at 8:55 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 12 and Lime Creek Road in Valley Springs.

   No injuries are reported and it is apparently not blocking traffic.

Crash on Hwy 26 in Rancho Calaveras

   May 7, 2015 at 8:50 AM:  A tan Ford Taurus reportedly ran off the roadway at Hwy 26 and Hagen Court in Rancho Calaveras.

   No injuries were reported, but be cautious until CHP can get the roadway cleared. A person walking away wearing a black hat may have been the driver of the vehicle involved.

   UPDATE:  It appears that the driver of this vehicle may have been DUI; at the CHP office??

Solo vehicle crash in Murphys

  May 7, 2015 at 8:10 AM:  A solo vehicle collision was reported on Murphys Grade Road at French Gulch Road in Murphys.

    The vehicle and three men are currently  blocking the Murphys Grade Road on a sharp corner, so be extra careful if you are headed in that direction. No injuries have been reported.

Car spins out, hits bridge in Jamestown

   May 7, 2015 at 8:10 AM;  A solo vehicle reportedly spun out and hit the bridge at Hwy 108 and Hwy 49 in Jamestown.

   An ambulance in en route, along with CHP. Use extra caution if in that area.


Crash at Hwy 108 and Washington in Sonora

   May 7, 2015 at 8:05 AM:  A multi-vehicle collision has been reported at Hwy 108 and Washington Street in Sonora.

   Eastbound lanes are blocked. CHP and an ambulance are en route. Please drive carefully. The roads are slick with the fresh rain.

   UPDATE at 11:10 AM:  CHP indicates the roadway will reopen shortly.

   UPDATE:  Manteca Police are trying to keep pedestrians off the overpass while they are investigating this tragic collision.

Vehicle Rollover in Columbia

   According to a CHP report, on May 6, 2015 at around 7:10 AM Chris Calestine (25) of Sonora was driving 1984 Jeep on Sawmill Flat Road in Columbia when he lost control

Fire in Mokelumne HIll

   May 7, 2015 at 7:40 AM:  A fire has been reported in the middle of Hwy 49 at Center Street in Mokelumne Hill.

   CalFire is responding to the report.  Use caution if headed in that direction.

Vehicle in Ditch on Hwy 49

  May 7, 2015 at 6:25 AM:  A vehicle has been reported running into the ditch on Hwy 49 at Campo Seco Turnpike,  on the thirteen curves section near Mokelumne Hill.

   CHP is en route. No word yet on if there are injuries. Be extra cautious if in that area.
