Caltrans begins work on Hwy 88 and Hwy 89

   Caltrans has just announced that they will begin work on Monday, May 11, 2015 on parts of Hwy 49 in Amador County and Hwy 88 and Hwy 89 between Amador County and Alpine County.

   The work on Hwy 89 will begin at the junction of Hwy 88 and continue to the connector of Hwy 4. some work will be done during the day and some at night. Be prepared for 15 minute delays.
  

Calaveras "Redskins" banned?

  The California Assembly passed a bill making the use of the name Redskins illegal in California. It's about time!

   What will Calaveras High School, one of only 4 left in the state to continue using the name, do now? Will they change their name soon?

Line down in Rancho Calaveras

   May 8, 2015 at 10:30 AM:  A truck of something pulled a line down into the roadway at Silver Rapids and Hartvickson in Rancho Calaveras and left.

   CHP has been notified of the incident and is en route. Use extra caution in that area.

CalFire inmate crews train for fire

   Readiness drills to prepare for fire season will be held at New Hogan Dam on Wednesday May 13 and Thursday May 14, 2015 under  CalFire supervision.

   Training will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM each day near the State Creek Campground.

Toyota shears pole in Hughson

  May 8, 2015 at 9:30 AM:  CHP is at the scene of a telephone pole that was struck by a Toyota and sheared at the base at Geer Road and Service Road in Hughson.

   AT&T has been notified. No injuries were reported but it didn't do the Toyota Camry any good. A tow truck will remove it with severe front end damage.

Hillary Clinton visits Chinatown Tea Shop

   While Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was in San Francisco this week, she took time to visit a tea shop in Chinatown.

   She was in the area for a fundraiser for her campaign committee.

Traffic Collision in Ripon

  May 8, 2015 at 7 AM:  CHP is en route to a traffic collision that has been reported at Hwy 120 and French Camp Road in Ripon, where a car ran off the roadway into an orchard.

   It isn't yet know if there are any injuries. Be extra cautious if in that area.

Cow on road in Oakdale

   May 8, 2015 at 6 AM:  A cow has been reported walking back and forth across Valley Home Road near Lone Tree Drive in Oakdale.

   Be extra careful in the area until CHP can clear the cow off the roadway.

Chain Control on Hwy 4

   May 8, 2015 at 5:55 AM:  Chain controls have been at Blue Lake Springs in Arnold on Hwy 4 for most of the night.

   Chains are required at Long Barn on Hwy 108.   Use extra caution as there may be more snow during the day today at the higher elevations.
