Two cubs released

These two black bear cubs, who were rescued over the holidays last year,
were released into the wild near Eureka today!

Dog lover blocks traffic

   May 14, 2015 at 6 PM:  A person who called a reported a dog was hit and injured by a car, has parked in the middle of Carver Road and Ladd Road, just of Hwy 108 in Modesto, to make sure no one else hits it.

   This is the best story of the day, even though CHP might not be happy about it. Most people would just drive on by. There just aren't enough good people like that anymore.

Vehicle in ditch off Hwy 4

   May 14, 2015 at 6 PM:   A vehicle was reported off Hwy 4 and into a ditch near Pool Station Road below Angels Camp.

   CHP is en route to the scene. It isn't yet known if there are injuries. Slow down out there.

Rocks on Hwy 4

  UPDATE:  The rocks have been cleared per CHP.

Truck strikes mailbox and rolls

  May 14, 2015 at 5:50 PM:  A white pickup struck a mailbox and then reportedly rolled over on Hwy 26 and Josephine Lane in the Rancho Calaveras area.

  An ambulance and a tow truck are en route to the scene. Drive slowly and use extra caution in this area.

 UPDATE:  This collision has now been cleared from the roadway.

American River Fire ruled Arson

   According to authorities who investigated the fire off Fair Oaks near the American River, three separate fires were set intentionally. It came within a few feet of homes on the bluff above the river.

   It seems that the number of sickos out there has increased, and arson is one of these nuts favorite criminal activities.  Damaging other people's property is their intent.  They don't lock them up for long enough!!

Burglary in Valley Springs

  On May 13, 2015 a resident on O'Rielly Street  in Valley Springs reported a burglary.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report. No other details are known at this time.

Disturbances in Angels Camp

  On May 13, 2015 at around 1:30 PM the Calaveras Sheriff was called about a disturbance on Monte Verda Street in Angels Camp where two males and a female were having an altercation. One was arrested.

   A short time later another call was made to report a battery at Stelte Court and Suzanne Drive in Angels Camp where several vehicles were around a large fight.  The Sheriff took a report.

Traffic Collision causes grass fire

   May 14, 2015 at 1:30 PM:  A vehicle collision has rolled into the grass at Hwy 99 and east Hwy 4 in Stockton, starting a grass fire.

   CHP and fire personnel have been notified. Use extra caution if in that area.

Traffic collision in Chinese Camp

   May 14, 2015 at 1 PM:  CHP are en route to a traffic collision on Hwy 120 at Shawmut Road in the Chinese Camp area, outside Jamestown.

   No injuries have been reported and apparently they have pulled off the roadway.

City of Angels Camp to get Golf Report

   The City Council of Angels Camp will get a State of the City report from its City Administrator Michael McHatten on Tuesday May 19, 2015 at 6 PM at the Firehouse.

Passes Closed

  Caltrans has closed Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass, Hwy 108 Sonora Pass and Hwy 120 Tioga Pass due to the oncoming storm.

   Drive carefully if traveling to the mountains, especially over 6000' where the snow is expected.

Arrest in Copperopolis

   On May 13, 2015 around 4:10 PM the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Jon Lawrence Nyland (38) of Copperopolis, at his residence on Iroquois Circle for alleged Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse and Threatening a Crime with the Intent to Terrorize, both felonies and for Obstruction or Resisting a Peace Office and Battery, both misdemeanors.

   Nyland was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Angels Camp man arrested

   According to the Angels Camp Police Department, on May 13, 2015 they arrested James Fletcher Hagaman, Jr. (37) of Angels Camp at Hwy 4 and Hwy 49 around 2 PM for alleged Assault with a Deadly Weapon, not a firearm, a felony and for Reckless driving on a highway, a misdemeanor.

   Hagaman was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Overturned vehicle in Sutter Creek

   May 14, 2015 at 8:10 AM:  CHP is at the scene of an overturned vehicle that is blocking the roadway at Gopher Flat Road and Shake Ridge Road in Sutter Creek.

   Injuries are reportedly minor. A tow truck is en route to the location.  Use extra caution if in that area.

Two Crashes on Hwy 120 in Manteca

   UPDATE:  No injuries were reported in the Eastbound collision. In the Westbound Hwy 120 crash injuries were minor.

At first it was believed that this was all one incident

Child hit by car in Denair

   May 14, 2015 at 7:55 AM:  CHP and an ambulance are en route to the scene of a red Toyota that reportedly it a child pedestrian and Main Street and Lester Road in Denair.

   Be extra cautious if in that area as apparently the child is lying on the ground.

Saddle Queen contest today

   Today, May 14, 2015 is opening day of the Calaveras County Fair. The Saddle Queen contest will be held at 11 AM in the Frogtown Arena.

   Rain is expected during the afternoon and could dampen the 6  Miss Calaveras contestants on the stage this evening. Take your raingear if you are planning on attending either event.

Drunk Checks in Angels Camp

   The Angels Camp Police Department has issued a warning that they will be conducting sobriety checks on May 22, 2015 from 5 PM to 2 AM.

   The exact location has not been disclosed.
