Letter to the Editor: About Bear Mountain

Dear Sierra Sentinel Editor:

   Over the weekend I came down Hwy 4 and just before I got to Angels Camp I noticed the Bear Mountain was suddenly "bare" mountain.

Control burn out of control in Hickman

   July 6, 2015 at 11:20 AM:  A control burn is reportedly out of control on Montpelier Road in Hickman.

   Several units, including air, are responding to the site.

Vehicle Fire in Groveland

   On July 4, 2015 at approximately 12:37 PM two Groveland Cal Fire engines responded to a report of a Honda Pilot on fire in the 18700 block of Back Street in Groveland.

   The cause was not known, but the Honda was damaged. The fire did not spread to any surrounding vegetation.



  

CHP report on Officer involved collision

   According to a CHP report, on July 5, 2015 at approximately 2:34 PM a red Mazda Miata, driven Daniel Vasquez-Rodriguez (22) of Valley Springs was traveling westbound on Hwy 12 at

Fire in Blue Mountain area

   According to Cal Fire, on July 3, 2015 around 11:30 AM, they responded to a report of a fire on Forest Road 7N28 and Blue Creek on SPI land in Calaveras County.

    Four engines, a copter and 2 water tenders reported to the scene.  The fire was extinguished at around 1 acre of timber burned.  It is reported that it was started by lightning.

Woman dies in crash off Hwy 4

   According to CHP a 51 year old woman was found in a 2005 Subaru off Hwy 4 near Black Springs Drive in Ebbetts Pass.  This case is under investigation.

   She and her dog both died after she apparently lost control and tumbled down a rocky, steep ridge and then hit a tree.  The name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. It isn't yet known when this crash occurred.

Burglary in Jenny Lind

   On July 5, 2015 a burglary was reported by a resident on Jenny Lind Road in Jenny Lind.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report of the incident.

Complaints of Fireworks

   Several complaints of illegal fireworks being set off were received by the Calaveras Sheriff's Office between midnight and 10:35 AM on July 5, 2015 on Wade Lane in Burson.

   At one point a citation was issued, but the fireworks continued. Then someone was arrested for disorderly conduct due to alcohol, but still the fireworks continued.

Ebbetts Pass 4th of July party total success

Yes, all these volunteer deputies helped
out in Arnold, especially during the
big parade on Saturday, July 4, 2015.
   Even without fireworks, the party held in Ebbetts Pass, especially along Hwy 4 in Arnold was a whopping success.

   There was food, entertainment, crafts, and beer, etc; and Arnold was was packed with people all weekend. Fireworks were not missed.
