Road closed for fire

   UPDATE at 3:45 PM:  Per Cal Fire the "Tuttle Fire" is 100% contained.

UPDATE at 3:15 PM:  The forward progress of this fire has been stopped in the area

CVS resigns from US Chamber of Commerce

   CVS, the drug store that pulled all tobacco products from its shelves last year, went even further today.

   They resigned from the US Chamber of Commerce after learning the group is lobbying worldwide against anti-tobacco legislation. 

Music in the Park comes to Mokelumne Hill

   On Wednesday July 15, 2015 at 6:30 PM, Shutter Tree Park will come alive with the sounds of Coyote Hill.

    Music in the Parks is a free program by the Calaveras Arts Council.

Defying Gravity?

   Yes, this is a real photo; not a trick!  Big Horn Sheep in the Elk Wildlife Refuge in Wyoming seem to defy gravity when they travel up and down the rock mountain.

Motorcycle flips off Hwy 88

   July 7, 2015 at 1:15 PM:  A motorcycle ran off the roadway and flipped down the embankment at Hwy 88 and Nob Hill Court.

   Emergency personnel are at the scene. An ambulance is en route.

Big rig over the side in Turlock--Listed Fatality--Not Fatal after all!!

  UPDATE at 4:10 PM:  All lanes are now reopened.

  UPDATE at 1 PM:  Clean up will take at least 3 more hours per CHP. 

Protect yourself against mosquitos

   As far as we know, West Nile virus has not yet been tested in mosquitos in this area, but use protection when outside.

   No sense taking any chances. Use a good area spray or skin protection block.

Motorcycle crash in Mariposa

   July 7, 2015 at 11:55 AM:  A motorcycle has been reported down at Hwy 49 and Bear Valley Road in Mariposa.

   Emergency personnel is en route to the scene, where it has been indicated the male is elderly.

Fire in Westley

  July 7, 2015 at 11:50 AM:  A fire has been reported at I 5 and Ingraham Creek in the Westley area.

   CalFire is responding to the scene. Use caution if headed that way.

Multi-vehicle crash in Modesto

  July 7, 2015 at 11:15 AM:  A Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputy just arrived at the scene of a big rig and two vehicles collision at Finch and Mariposa in Modesto.

   This apparently occurred over an hour ago, and they have been waiting. No injuries have been indicated.

Fire in Waterford

  July 7, 2015 at 11 AM:  A control burn has escaped and is now burning down an orchard on Tim Bell Road in Waterford.

   Cal Fire personnel, including air is en route to the area.

Pickup dropping boxes of fruit

   July 7, 2015 at 10:30 AM:  A white pickup that was reportedly dropping boxes of fruit on northbound Hwy 99 is now stopped and stuck at West Main Street in Turlock.

   Be extra cautious, as multiple incidents seem to be happening in that area.

Fire reported in Riverbank area

   July 7, 2015 at 10:20 AM:  A grass fire has been reported at Claribel and Oakdale Road in the Riverbank area.

   Fire personnel are responding to the scene. 

Caltrans working on Hwy 49

   July 7, 2015 at 10:15 AM;  Be extra cautious on Hwy 49 in Angels Camp as Caltrans is doing shoulder maintenance and traffic will be held up from Copello Road to Angels Road in San Andreas.

Another collision on Hwy 99 in Turlock

   July 7, 2015 at 10:05 AM:  A solo vehicle collision has been reported on Hwy 99 at West Main Street in Turlock, this one in the southbound lanes.

   People have exited the vehicle. It isn't know if there are any injuries.

Object in roadway--several flat tires

  UPDATE at 10 AM:  CHP has cleared the roadway of debris.

Car vs stop sign in Copperopolis

   July 7, 2015 at 9 AM:  A car has reportedly hit a stop sign at Hwy 4 in Stagecoach below Copperopolis and was apparently on top of it.

   CHP is now at the scene. Caltrans has been notified. No injuries are indicated.

Illegal Shooting reported in Avery

   A resident on Love Creek Road in Avery reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that a white male was shooting in a residential area.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report.  

Asphalt Plant hearing Thursday

   The Calaveras Planning Commission is again meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 9 AM in the Board Chambers, to hear the continued appeal of Mr. Maurer's, Mr. Tunno's and Mr. Kearney's asphalt plant on the Calaveras River in Valley Springs.

Ladder on Hwy 99

   UPDATE at 6:10 AM;  CHP has cleared the ladder from the freeway. Roadway is now clear.
