Arrest made in Big Creek Fire in Groveland

       We just received a press release that on Thursday July 30, 2015 the cause of the Big Creek Fire was determined to be an escaped debris fire.

   A suspect was identified and at 6 PM an arrest

Eleanor Owen of Altaville

   Eleanor Owen passed away July 14, 2015 in Altaville. She was 82 years old, born April 22, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois.

   July 31, 2015 at 1:15 PM:  According to Cal Fire no aircraft are working the Big Creek Fire today.

  The acreage stands at 204 and the containment is 35%.

PR firm hired by Cecil's killer, quits

   It seems that Dr. Palmer, the dentist who tortured and then killed a collared lion, Cecil, hired a PR firm to help him restore his reputation.

   Well, today, the PR firm quit. It was making them look bad.  We have heard people call hunters for fun psychotic, and worse after Cecil died.

Copperopolis woman arrested

   On July 30, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Tracey Anne Lamkin (50) of Copperopolis, near her home on Morado Circle.

   Lamkin was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Injuring Power Lines and Violation of Probation, both felonies and for Cruelty to Elder or Dependent, a misdemeanor.

UPDATE at 12:45 PM:  The 2nd fire is about 30' x 50' on a midslope with a slow rate of spread, 1/2 hour hike from the roadway.

Injured deer at Phoenix Lake

  July 31, 2015 at 10:15 AM:  An injured deer has been reported on Phoenix Lake Road near Hess in the Phoenix Lake area.

   Use extra caution if headed in that direction.  And add the $10 bumper deer warnings to the front of your vehicle, and slow down. They work!  You do not want to hit an animal.

Willow Fire in Sierra National Forest update

   According to Cal Fire on July 31, 2015 the Willow Fire, burning in the Sierra National Forest, southeast of Bass Lake is 4395 acres and is now 30% contained.

   The fire is in Madera County.  This fire is listed as human caused.

Rocky Fire in Lake County still out of control

  Per Cal Fire on July 31, 2015:  The Rocky Fire in Lake County continues out of control and has grown to 15,000 acres.

   Evacuations are still in effect in the area.  National Guard helicopters are now assigned to help bring this fire into containment.  Now it is only 5% contained.

   July 31, 2015 at 6:35 AM:  CHP is en route to Hwy 26 and Barney Way in West Point where two vehicles are reportedly blocking the roadway.

Evacuations lifted in Groveland fire

   Evacuations have been lifter in the Big Creek Fire area of Groveland and Hwy 120 is open.

   Cal Fire lists the total acreage burned at 204 and containment is now 35%.

Fires, fires everywhere: National Guard to the rescue!

   There have not been enough air attack helicopters available for the fires we've faced here in the Mother Lode or elsewhere in Northern California.

  Now the National Guard has been called out to bring their big helicopters to the fight. It's about time.

Finally, Music in the Park comes to Valley Springs

     On Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 6:30 to 8 PM the Calaveras Arts program Music in the Park will present Bill Welles and Friends.

   It will be held at the Valley Springs Ball Park. It's free.

  

Suspicious car stuck in ditch

   July 30, 2015:  A car that crashed into a ditch at Hwy 26 and Hwy 12 near Toyon, was suspicious, according to CHP.

   The driver got out and tried to get help being pulled out, but the other men in the car refuses to exit the vehicle.  The Calaveras Sheriff was notified.

Overturned vehicle in Acampo

   July 30, 2015 at 3:10 PM:  An overturned vehicle is reportedly blocking the onramp of Hwy 99 and Acampo Road in Acampo.

   CHP and a tow truck are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Big Creek Fire in Groveland update

  UPDATE:  We just learned that only 1 aircraft, a helicopter is working the Big Creek Fire. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

Multi-vehicle collision on Hwy 108

   July 30, 2015 at 2:55 PM:  A four vehicle collision has been reported on Hwy 108 at Woods Way in Jamestown.  Injuries are apparently minor.

   Emergency vehicles are en route to the scene, including an ambulance. Use extra caution if headed that way.

Big rig overturned on Hwy 99

   UPDATE at 5:45 PM:  Lane 2 was just reopened on Hwy 99. Minor injuries were caused in this collision.

Swedes Fire in Butte County update

   Per Cal Fire the Swedes Fire in Butte County was 500 acres at 7 AM July 30, 2015. It is 45% contained, but evacuations are still in effect.

Traffic collision in Rancho Calaveras

  July 30, 2015 at 1:30 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Garner Place in Rancho Calaveras.

   CHP is en route. N injuries have been indicated.

Rocky Fire in Lake County out of control

   As of 11:15 AM July 30, 2015, less than 20 hours after first reported the Rocky Fire in Lake County is 8300 acres with absolutely no control or containment.

   Three structures and multiple outbuildings have been damaged or destroyed so far.  11 helicopters and 8 air tankers are currently assigned to this fire.

Traffic Collision on Hwy 99

   July 30, 2015 at 11:45 AM:  A traffic collision with injuries has been reported on southbound Hwy 99 at Hatch Road in Modesto.

   A semi truck and a Honda sedan collided. Emergency personnel are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if headed that way.

Sand spilled on Hwy 108

   July 30, 2015 at 10:10 AM:  A traffic collision has caused a trailer to overturn at Hwy 108 and Obyrnes Ferry Road in Jamestown, spilling sand all over the roadway.

   Tuolumne County Roads has been dispatched for clean up. A big rig tow is en route for the trailer. No injuries were indicated. One way traffic control is in effect.

Overturned tan SUV on Hwy 4

  UPDATE at 10 AM:  The tan SUV is reportedly over the side. Eastbound Hwy 4 will be blocked for investigation and assistance.

Another fire near Burson--If you see anyone acting suspiciously, call 911

 UPDATE at 9:05 AM:  Fire personnel have been able to respond quickly and have these fires under control.

Grass fire in Burson area

  July 30, 2015 at 8:40 AM:  A fire was just reported on Camanche Parkway at Pattison Road in the Burson area.

  Fire crews have been assigned to this fire. Use caution if headed in that direction.

Hwy 120 closed again

   July 30, 2015:  Hwy 120 is closed in both directions as of 8:30 AM again due to the Big Creek Fire in Groveland.  CHP is handling the blockades.

 If heading to Yosemite use an alternate route. Caltrans is seeing about getting signboards posted.

Fire outside Pardee

  July 30, 2015 at 8:30 AM:  A grass fire has been reported on Buena Vista Avenue between Pardee Reservoir and Ione.

  Cal Fire has dispatched a crew to the area. Be extra cautious if headed that way.

Big Creek Fire in Groveland

   According to Cal Fire the Big Creek Fire in Groveland has burned 150 acres and is only 5% contained.

  As of 8 AM Hwy 120 is reopened in both directions. Evacuations in the area are still in effect.

Rocky Fire looms large in Lake County

  As of 7 AM on July 30, 2015 the Rocky Fire in Lake County is 8000 acres.  This fire was first reported at 4:10 PM on July 29, 2015.

   There is 0% containment on this fire, which has so far destroyed several outbuildings. Many homes are threatened and evacuations are in effect in the area.  Additional resources have been requested.

Fire reported in Winton

   July 30, 2015 at 6:35 AM:  A fire has been reported at Meadowlark and Crawford in Winton.

   Fire personnel are en route to the scene. Avoid the area if possible.

Car runs stop sign, hit by big rig, overturns

   July 30, 2015 at 6:30 PM  A car that reportedly ran a stop sign was hit by and big rig and overturned at Turlock Road and Looney Road near Snelling.

   Fortunately, only minor injuries resulted from this collision. CHP is clearing this collision now.

Avoid Hwy 120 until Cal Fire clears

  UPDATE July 30, 2015 at 5 AM:  So far Cal Fire has the Big Creek Fire in Groveland at 150 acres. This figure is from late yesterday evening.

Freight train derailed in Galt

   A freight train has derailed and cars are overturned in the Galt area.  It isn't yet known what caused the derailment, but there are apparently no injuries.

   Southern Pacific crews are now arriving to work through the night if necessary to put the cars upright and clear the tracks.

Big Creek Fire in Groveland

UPDATE at 6:25 PM:  Fire is now at around 35 acres and still spotting forward.  They are setting up a camp.

Rocky Fire in Lake County

   At fire that was reported a little after 4 PM July 29, 2015 in Lake County is now 150 acres, as of 6 PM. 

   Evacuations in that area are taking place at this time.  Rocky Creek and Morgan Valley roads are closed.

Vehicle rollover in Fiddletown

   July 29, 2015 at 6 PM:  A silver Toyota is on its roof with 2 people trapped inside on Fiddletown Road in Fiddletown.

    The vehicle is totally smashed, per a witness. An ambulance and tow truck are en route. CHP is at the scene. Avoid the area if possible until cleared.

   A fire in Butte County that was reported at around 11:30 AM on July 29, 2015 is now over 100 acres.

   It is near Bangor, off Swedes Flat Road. Evacuations have been ordered immediate for residents in that area.

Lowell Fire Update

     July 29, 2015 at 9 AM:  The Lowell Fire in Placer and Nevada Counties is now 2303 acres with a containment of 45%.

   Evacuations continue and the Tahoe National Forest is closed due to this fire.

Wragg Fire flares up again

   July 29, 2015 at 9 AM:  As of this morning Cal Fire has the total acreage of the Wragg Fire near Lake Berryessa at 7100 acres with 80% containment.

   The fire did flare up again early Tuesday and evacuations were again issued due to triple digit temperatures and low humidity.

Big Rig Fire on Hwy 88

   July 28, 2015 at 5:05 PM:  A big rig is reportedly on fire at Hwy 88 westbound near the Dew Drop cutoff and still moving down the Hwy.

   Emergency vehicles are responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Vehicle rolls over on Hwy 99

     CHP has given an order NOT to move this vehicle at this time.

Willow Fire suspect caught

   The Willow Fire in the Sierra National Forest, has burned 1739 acres so far, as of 12 Noon and containment is only 5 %.

   A juvenile suspect has been named as the cause of this fire. The Madera County District Attorney  is filing the charges.

Lowell Fire Update

   The Lowell Fire continues to burn in Nevada and Placer counties. As of 12:30 PM Cal Fire has it as a 2233 acre fire with 30% containment.

   One of the injured firefighters is still hospitalized with serious injuries and an investigation of the event is under way. 17 helicopter and 7 air tankers are assisting with this fire currently.

Vehicle collision causes grass fire

   July 28, 2015 at 12:45 PM:  A white pickup went off Hwy 205 at the I-5 connector in Lathrop and went down an embankment, hitting a pole. Power lines are down.

   The truck is on fire and the vegetation around the pickup is on fire. An alarm is going off from the pole.   Cal Fire is responding to the fire. PG&E has been notified. An ambulance is en route to the traffic collision.

Helena Faye Coffey of Glencoe

   Helena Faye Coffey was born in Yale, Oklahoma on September 20, 1944 and passed away at her home in Glencoe on July 22, 2015 of natural causes.  She was 70.

Fire in Farmington

    The first unit on scene says its about a 70' x 40' spot.  Other units can be cancelled, as they think they can handle this fire.

   After nearly a month of negotiations, the NFL Commissioner has completely upheld a 4 game suspension of Super Bowl winning Quarterback Tom Brady.

Vehicle vs car vs pole vs vineyard

   July 28, 2015 at 11:55 AM:  Three CHP units have been dispatched to Ray and Woodbridge in Lodi where a vehicle reportedly hit a pedestrian.

   Apparently a grey Chevy Impala hit a Prius, then hit a telephone pole and landed in a vineyard at that location, where there were people working.

Woman thrown from car in Oakdale

   July 28, 2015 at 10 AM:  A caller notified authorities that they witnessed a woman being thrown out of a car at Sierra and Wren in Oakdale.

   Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene and the woman ran into the orchard away from them.

Business in Arnold vandalized

   The Calaveras Sheriff received a report on July 27, 2015 that a business on Hwy 4 in Arnold had been vandalized.

   The Sheriff's Office took a report. No other information has been made available at this time.

Sea Turtle babies released

     Padre Island National Park Service released 90 baby Ridley Sea Turtles this morning after protecting their nests until they hatched.

   They make sure they get to the ocean and then the little guys are on their own. Many do not make it to adulthood, sadly.

Transient Camp in Turlock

   July 28, 2015 at 8:40 AM:  CHP received a complaint about the transient camp on Hwy 99 at West Main Street in Turlock.

    Caller feels they stumble out onto the Hwy, causing a traffic hazard, and that someone should do something about it.

Pickup loses tire in San Andreas

   June 27, 2015 at 4:15 PM:  A black Dodge pickup reportedly lost a tire on Mountain Ranch Road not far from Hwy 49 in San Andreas.

   It is partly blocking the roadway so use extra caution if in that area until a tow truck arrives.

  

Car hits power pole in Oakdale

   July 27, 2015 at 4:10 PM:  A car has reportedly hit a power pole at Albers Road and Oakdale Waterford Hwy in Oakdale.

Minor injuries in Arnold collision

   According to CHP on July 25, 2015 around 5 PM Jay Balletti (69) of Dorrington, was driving a 2000 Dodge northbound on Sierra Parkway south of Wikami Way in Arnold at a speed of around 15-20 MPH, when he suffered a medical emergency

Blue car in ditch off road in Copperopolis

   July 27, 2015 at 3 PM:  A blue sedan has run off LIttlejohn Road into a ditch near Ox Yoke Lane in Copperopolis.

   Driver apparently did not want police called and was trying to get the car out to leave the scene.

   CHP is en route, along with a tow truck.

Calaveras Supervisors Pray and then vote

   On Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 9 AM the Calaveras Supervisors will meet and Chair Edsel will force prayers for all the horrid sinful women who believe they should have rights.

   UPDATE at 1:30 PM:  CHP is providing traffic control on Jamestown Road for fire crews.

Fire in Ione

    UPDATE at 1:10 PM:  The first unit on scene reports that hey think they have this fire limited to current size.  Some additional unites were cancelled.

Lowell Fire Update

    July 27, 2015 at 9 AM:   The Lowell Fire grew another 200 acres during the night in spite of higher humidity levels in the area.  The total acreage burned is now 1700 acres with 20% containment.

    Evacuations are still in place in the area, but authorities want to thank the public for their tips on the white Jeep. They are no longer looking for the vehicle.  There are 7 air tankers and 14 helicopters working on this fire, in addition to the engines and men on the ground.

4 firefighters hospitalized due to Lowell Fire

   July 26, 2015 at 6:30 AM:  Two Cal Fire firefighters and two USFS firefirghters were burned during the day yesterday.

   They were airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center.  We don't have an up to the minute update yet this morning. Parts of I 80 are closed due to this fire. The total acreage is 1500 acres burned and it is only 15% contained at the last report.

Car blocking Hwy 4 intersection

   July 26, 2015 at 9:15 PM:  A car is reportedly stalled and blocking the roadway at Tom Bell Road and Hwy 4 in Murphys.

   Use extra caution if headed in that direction.

Daughter of Whitney Houston dies

   Five months after she was found unconscious and unresponsive in a bathtub, Bobby Christina Brown, daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, died today. She was 22.

   She may have been taken off life support after the family was given little to no hope of her survival and that her brain had died.

Mama bear fishes, comes on bank to feed cubs

   People around the world who watch the brown bears LIVE at Katmai and especially at Brooks Falls, are fascinated by a mama grizzly, who goes into the river to fish, leaving her four cubs on the bank to play.

  Then she will come up and feed her cubs regularly. She doesn't even seem to be upset that there are four of them to take care of.

Tree down on Hwy 49

   July 26, 2015 at 6 PM:  A tree has been reported down on Hwy 49 and Bell Road in Plymouth.

   Use extra caution if in that area until a crew can be dispatched to remove it.

Traffic Collision in Pioneer

   July 26, 2015 at 5:45 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Glenmore Road and Fairway Drive in the Pioneer area, close to Mace Meadows Golf Course.

     A witness stated that high speed was involved prior to the collision. No injuries have been indicated. One of the vehicles was apparently a brown pickup.

Kyburz Fire downgraded

   Due to more accurate mapping, the Kyburz Fire is now listed by Cal Fire at 98 acres, less than half what was earlier suggested.

    It is now 80% contained. All mandatory evacuations are lifted and Hwy 50 is re-open in both directions.

Reports of Fireworks in Valley Springs

   On July 25, 2015 around 9:45 PM a resident on La Contenta Drive in Valley Springs reported hearing fireworks. Juveniles were setting them off at the golf course. No report

First President to visit Kenya

   President Obama is the first sitting US President to visit Kenya, Africa. Kenya is the home of his father and the President made a joke about it saying "Some in the US think I'm here to look for my birth certificate."
   The large crowd loved it and laughed uproariously.  In general, the people of Kenya adore our President Barack Obama.

Vehicle takes out 40' of fencing

   July 26, 2015 at 8:45 AM:   A vehicle went off Hwy 99 and took out 40' of fence and posts near Hammer Lane in Stockton.

   On August 15, 2015 at 5 PM, the 49ers will play in Houston for their first 2015 preseason game.

Sheriff seeks publics help--Jeep in area of Lowell Fire

   July 26, 2015 at 6 AM:  Authorities are seeking the public's help finding a raised 4x4 white Jeep Wrangler that was seen in the area of Gold Run/ Dutch Flat around 2:30 PM on July 25, 2015.

Lowell Fire in Nevada County

    A fire that was reported at around 2:40 PM this afternoon, was already burning so fast it had consumed 1500 acres by 4:30 PM near the town of Alta in Nevada County and spreading toward Placer County.

   The small communities of Red Dog, Chalk Bluffs and You Bet are under mandatory evacuation. Due to the speed of the spread of this fire other areas have been given advisory evacuation notices.

Car hits pole near Bear Valley

   July 25, 2015 at 6 PM:  A car reportedly hit a yellow pole on Hwy 4 near Hwy 207 outside Bear Valley.

   The driver left to go to the Lake Alpine Store. CHP is en route.  Apparently being called a hit and run at this time.

Traffic Collision in Arnold

   July 25, 2015 at 5:50 PM:  A traffic collision was reported on Sierra Parkway near Wikami in Arnold, where a silver Dodge Durango hit some trees.

Retired LA cop now bank robber?

      Known after a string of bank robberies as the "Snowbird Bandit", police say that Randolph Adair, a retired LA police detective, is the one allegedly responsible for the holdups.

   Apparently a heavy gambler, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said he had gambling receipts on him when captured.  They allege he was responsible for at least 5 of the robberies.

Florida town wants KKK removed from building

     Residents of Baker County, Florida have submitted a petition to have the mural of the KKK removed from the County courthouse.

    Hard to believe here in California, that these things still exist in the south, isn't it? Shocking!!

  Don't tell the TROLL, but there are horses out in the roadway at Briggs and Manthey in Lathrop.

Kyburz Fire update

   As of 7:30 AM July 25, 2015 the USFS announces that one lane of Hwy 50 is now reopen. The fire is 200 acres and is 30% contained.  Traffic is, however, metered and lead through the fire area.

   The fire is burning in steep canyons. Three helicopter and 13 fire crews are battling this fire, which they say has not been "sufficiently reinforced to increase the containment percentage."

Wragg Fire near Lake Berryessa update

  As of 8:30 AM July 25, 2015 Cal Fire reports that the Wragg Fire near Lake Berryessa is 6900 acres and is 47% contained.

   Hwy 128 will reopen and all evacuation orders are lifted as of 10 AM this morning.   There will be a town hall meeting tonight at 6 PM at the Winters Fire Station.

  It seems that people from all over the world enjoy the brown bears at Katmai in Alaska. Some have named them and follow them year after year.

  They are amazing! And watching the mother bears
trying to teach their cubs is so funny!

  There is one who sits on top of Brooks Falls and slaps the water. Does that make the fish jump? Not sure.

Traffic collision on Hwy 4

   July 25, 2015 at 9 AM:  A brown Ford Focus reportedly hit the wall at Hwy 4 and Hwy 99 northbound in Stockton.

   No injuries were indicated, but be cautious as CHP and a tow truck are en route to the scene.

  July 25, 2015 at 8:50 AM:  A solo vehicle lost control and hit the center divide at Hwy 99 and Monte Vista Ave. in Turlock.

Caltrans Alert: Hwy 50 detour is I 80

   Due to the Kyburz fire, Caltrans has issued an official detour around the Kyburz Fire on Hwy 50.

   Travelers are to use I-80 and Hwy 89 to access all areas of the Lake Tahoe basin until Hwy 50 can be reopened.

   As of 8 AM on July 24, 2015 Hwy 50 is closed from Sly Park to Meyers due to the Kyburz Fire, which is being fought on both sides of Hwy 50.

   Protection is being concentrated on saving summer homes in the area. 200 acres have been lost so far and the containment is at 30 %.  This fire is in the El Dorado National Forest.

Traffic collision in Mokelumne HIll

   July 24, 2015 at 4:45 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Independence Road near Ridge Road in Mokelumne Hill.

   CHP is en route to the scene. It isn't yet known if there are any injuries.

Crash in Murphys

   July 24, 2015 at 4:40 PM:  A traffic collision at Hwy 4 and Pennsylvania Gulch Road caused minor injuries to one person.

   CHP is at the scene. An ambulance and tow truck were also dispatched. Use caution if in that area.

Annual Cajun Fete in Sheep Ranch

Another burglary on Appaloosa in Angels Camp

   Yet another burglary was reported by a property owner on Appaloosa Road in Angels Camp.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report.

Burglary in West Point

   On July 23, 2015 a shop on West Point Pioneer Road in West Point was reported as broken into.

   The Calaveras Sheriff did not take a report on the burglary.

Wragg Fire at Lake Berryessa

   As on July 24, 2015 at 6:30 AM, CalFire has the Wragg Fire, near Hwy 128 and Greaves Road at 6900 acres and 20% contained.

   No other structures have been destroyed. Quail Ridge and Canyon Creek subdivisions remain on mandatory evacuations.

August First Friday at Murphys Park

  On Friday August 7, 2015 Plan B will be the featured entertainment at Murphys Community Park for First Fridays.

       UPDATE at 6 PM:  We just learned that Hwy 50 is now closed at Whitehall due to this fire, which has now burned 100 acres. The cause is under investigation.

Fire in Placerville

     July 23, 2015 at 3:25 PM:  Cal Fire is battling a fire at Dyer Way and Buckboard Road in the Placerville area.

   Called the Mosquito Fire, we aren't sure of the size of this one yet, but will update when we find out. Another one was reported on Tumeli but the crew was cancelled.

  

Lake Berryessa Fire, Wragg Fire

   July 23, 2015 at 12:30 PM:   Cal Fire has just updated the status of the Wragg Fire  near Lake Berryessa to 6700 acres with containment still at 5%.

   One outbuilding and one tent-trailer have been destroyed and one structure has been damaged so far.  Large animal evacuation center has now been set up at 29775 County Road 31 in Winters.  Mandatory evacuations are in effect in Quail Canyon and Golden Bear subdivisions.

11 million collect Social Security disability in the US

   Hard to believe, but in recent years, some say due to the recession, over 11 million people are now collecting Social Security Disability benefits in the United States.

   As is so common wherever there are public trails, another fire was caused by a drug lab not far from the American River Bike Trail in the Sacramento area.

   Sacramento Metro Fire was able to extinguish the fire before it spread too far, and now they are investigating the drug lab and removing all the hazardous materials that had been hauled in to the site.

Modesto Police car in crash

  July 23, 2015 at 10:45 AM:  A Modesto Police patrol car was apparently involved in a collision at Emerald and Kansas in Modesto.

   CHP is at the scene. No injuries were reported but the patrol car will need a tow.

Solo vehicle spins out in Jamestown-Warrants?

   July 23, 2015 at 10:10 AM:  A solo vehicle apparently spun out and ran off of Hwy 108 at Green Springs Road in Jamestown.

   A tow truck is en route for the vehicle.  Apparently the driver has outstanding warrants in Santa Clara County and will be picked up by Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

   July 23, 2015 at 10:05 AM:  A muli-vehicle traffic collision has been reported at Ridge Road and Running Gold Road in Sutter Creek.

   CHP and an ambulance are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if approaching that area.

Burglary reported in Progress in Angels Camp

   On July 22, 2015 at around 11:55 AM a witness reported seeing a male on Clifton Lane in Angels Camp, put up a ladder and climb through a window where they don't believe anyone is home.

   The ladder was then kicked away.  Identified as slender with shaved brown hair and a black backpack, the Calaveras Sheriff took the report.

Burglary reported in Wallace

   On July 22, 2015 at 4:55 AM a burglary was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff by a party on Hwy 12 in Wallace. Could this be the same place where a burglar alarm sounded at around 1 AM and the Sheriff said it was a false alarm?

   When the reporting party arrived, he went inside to find a hole in the ceiling and left the building to wait in car for deputy.  The Sheriff's Office took a report.

Arrest for Theft and Forgery

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office, on July 22, 2015 a deputy arrested Terryann Barbara Vanoverloop (42) at her residence on Calaveritas Road in San Andreas for allegedly Forging a name on an Access Card and Theft of a Forged Access Card, both felonies, and for Receiving Stolen Property under $950, Personate to get Money or Property, and Control Substance Paraphernalia, misdemeanors.

   Vandoverloop was booked into the Calaveras County Jail and released with a citation.

Traffic Collision in Acampo

   July 23, 2015 at 8:20 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 99 at Peltier Road in Acampo between a green Dodge pickup and a white Toyota Tundra.

   Both are currently in the center divide. An ambulance is en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in that area.

Fire at Lake Berryessa

   Called the Wragg Fire, CalFire is battling a blaze that was started by a car collision on Hwy 128 and Wragg Road around 2:30 PM on July 22, 2015, has now grown overnight to around 6000 acres. It is only 5% contained.

   Two subdivisions and campgrounds in the area are under mandatory evacuations and the town of Winters is dealing with the smoke and worry of how fast the fire is growing.  Helicopters are being used to drop water on the fire.

Overturned vehicle in Manteca

   July 23, 2015 at 6:25 AM:  A solo vehicle collision which overturned has been reported at Airport Way and Ripon Road in Manteca.

    No injuries have been indicated and the driver has apparently called his own tow truck.

  July 22, 2015 at 1:35 PM:  A Caltrans truck apparently opened their door and a car going by hit it, on Hwy 108 near Sylvan Avenue in Modesto.

    No injuries were reported, but be extra cautious in that area.

Car goes into gully in Jamestown

  UPDATE:  The car rolled and is on its top.  The driver is out of the vehicle but is injured.

   July 22, 2015 at 12:35 PM:  Cal Fire is responding to a report of a structure fire on Amador Avenue in Pioneer.

   No other details are available at this time.

Arrest for alleged felony Child Cruelty

    On July 21, 2015 at a little after 9 PM, Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested David Lee Slayter (56) of San Andreas, at his residence on Mountain Ranch Road, for alleged Child Cruelty with the possibility of injury or death, a felony.

   Slayter was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

   The creator of the "Archie" cartoon series has died at his home in Texas. He was 86.

   Tom Moore created the freckle-faced redhead, which was an instant hit and still remains popular  with many fans today.

Fire in Coarsegold

   July 22, 2015 at 10:30 AM:  Cal Fire has been forced to close sections of Hwy 41 near Road 406 in Coarsegold for a grass fire that has grown quickly.

   It isn't clear how long the roadway will have to be closed. Several CalFire crews and air attack are battling the fire now. They hope to gain control soon.

New Dr. Seuss book?

   Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, did a few years back. His widow had boxed up a lot of his loose drawings and writings and put them away.

   July 22, 2015 at 6 AM:  A fire has been reported at Coffee Road and Scenic Drive, near the river in Modesto.

    A fire crew is responding to the scene. There are often homeless camps with campfires found in that area and others, along the river.

   July 22, 2015 at 5:40 AM:  A van that is stalled on northbound Hwy 99 at Main in Turlock reportedly has almost been hit by a big rig.
