Car vs. pedestrian in Sonora

   August 6, 2015 at 4:15 PM:   A car has reportedly hit a pedestrian at Greenley Road and Morning Star Drive in Sonora.

    The pedestrian is apparently lying on the ground. CHP is en route to the scene.

Collision in Escalon

 UPDATE:  Major injuries resulted from this collision. One patient was airlifted to the hospital.

Alleged Arsonist arrested

James William Wilson
   James William Wilson (29) of Discovery Bay, was arrested this morning for allegedly maliciously started fires to forestland in at least 30 different places in the past few months.

   He is being held on $1 million bail.  An ongoing investigation shared by two fire districts led to the apprehension of Wilson.

   

Arts Council seeks donations to match grant

   The Calaveras Arts Council has been awarded a grant from the California Arts Council for $22,000 for creation of what they are calling "AnimalScapes of the Sierra Foothills".

Copperopolis neighborhood got egged?

  On August 5, 2015 a resident reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that the entire street, Morado Circle in Copperopolis, got egged.

   Then a resident on Feather Drive and Morado Circle reported a car and three homes were egged.

   The Sheriff took no report on the reported vandalism.

Four Calaveras County women, no men arrested August 5, 2015

   We have noticed an increase in the number of women being arrested in Calaveras County.

    On some days, more women, than men, are arrested. On August 5, 2015 four women were arrested and no men at all. Any ideas why??

Fire in Chinese Camp area

   Cal Fire responded to a call for a grass fire in the 9900  block of Red Hills Road in Chinese Camp on August 5, 2015 around 4:50 PM.

   The cause was not determined. Due to quick response from Green Springs the fire was extinguished after burning around 100' x 50' of roadside grass.

  

Containment grows in Rocky Fire-more homes burn

   As of August 6, 2015 the Rocky Fire is listed at 69,600 acres, but containment has grown to 40%.

   43 residences and 53 outbuildings have been destroyed in this fire so far.

Solo vehicle crash in Jamestown

   August 6, 2015 at 8 AM:  A solo vehicle has run off Hwy 120 near Jacksonville Road in Jamestown and crashed.

   No injuries were reported, but vehicle will need to be towed. It is not currently blocking the roadway, but use caution as the tow truck will need to access and remove the vehicle.

Overturned big rig on Hwy 88

   August 6, 2015 at 7:55 AM:  An overturned big rig has dumped between 300 to 500 yards of soil on Hwy 88 at Buckhorn Ridge in Pioneer.

   A detour off Hwy 88 is in effect until road can be cleared. Use extra caution if in that area.

Collision in Acampo

   August 6, 2015 at 6:45 AM:  Two vehicles are being towed after sustaining major front end damage in a collision at Peltier and Dustin in Acampo.

   No injuries have been reported. Use extra caution if in that area.
