Fire on Obyrnes Ferry Road

   August 14, 2015 at 6 PM:  A fire has been reported at Hwy 108 and Obyrnes Ferry Road in Jamestown.

   Cal Fire is responding to the area.  Use extra caution if headed that way as there may be smoke and fire vehicles on the roadways.

Update on Marks Fire

   August 14, 2015 at 5:30 PM:  Per Cal Fire  the Marks Fire is listed at 116 acres burned and containment is 60%. Very few other details are given in the report.

   No evacuations are necessary and the investigation into the cause is ongoing, although it did come out yesterday that a vehicle was involved. Therefore, it was HUMAN caused.

Traffic collision in Morada

   August 14, 2015 at 3:30 PM:  A white pickup and a grey Ford have collided at Ashley Lane and Cole Drive in Morada.

   CHP and an ambulance are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in that area.

   UPDATE:  The water main may belong to Modesto Irrigation District.

Big rig and Toyota collide in Linden

   August 14, 2015 at 2:55 PM:  A big rig and a Toyota have collided at Comstock Road and Duncan Road in Linden.

   CHP is at the scene. It isn't yet known if there are injuries. Be cautious if in that area until cleared.

Two vehicles collide in Arnold

   August 14, 2015 at 2:55 PM:  Two vehicles have reportedly collided on Venado Drive in Arnold.

  No injuries were indicated. CHP is at the scene. Neither vehicle is drivable so tow trucks have been dispatched.

Thieves in Calaveras County--"Neighbors from Hell"?

   From our own experience and by listening to others with similar problems the Sierra Sentinel is aware that there are way too many no good dirty thieves in Calaveras County.

   Just on August 13, 2015 the Sheriff received complaints of a theft on Hogan Dam Road in Valley Springs, kayaks stolen on Thompson in Copperopolis, and a generator stolen on Ridge Road in Railroad Flat.

    The normal suspect would be a close neighbor, even if the Sheriff deputy tries to say no, do your own investigation; get someone to help you. It is almost always someone you know. What do they call them "Neighbors from Hell"?

Multiple rollover in Rancho Calaveras

   UPDATE:  CHP indicates that injuries from this collision were minor.

Arnold Man and Woman arrested

  On August 13, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Katy Elizabeth Shultz (35) of Arnold, at her residence on Maple Street in Arnold for allegedly Manufacturing a controlled substance,

Hay truck collision on Hwy 4

   August 14, 2015 at 1 PM:  A large hay truck and a Chevy van have reportedly collided on Hwy 4 near Adelbert Ave, just east of Hwy 99 in Stockton.

  No injuries have been indicated, but tow trucks have been dispatched to the scene.

Mad River Lightning Fire

   As of August 14, 2015 the Mad River Lightning Fire around Ruth Lake in the Trinity National Forest is around 22,000 acres and is 50% contained.

   Five firefighters have been injured in fighting this fire and so far the cost is $16.8 million. Two homes and two outbuildings have been destroyed.

Two pre-schoolers left in car in Valley Springs

   August 14, 2015 at 12:25 PM:  CHP has notified the Calaveras Sheriff's Office that they received a call about 2 pre-schoolers left in a car at Pine and Sequoia Streets in Valley Springs, near the Valley Springs Elementary School.

   They reported that their mother had been gone for quite awhile and that the car is partially blocking the roadway.

Caltrans repaving Hwy 88, work on Hwy 89

   From August 17, 2015 to August 21, 2015 from 6 AM to 6 PM Caltrans will be repaving Hwy 88 from the Alpine/

Flying trash hits car in Standard

   August 14, 2015 at 11:30 AM:  A white pickup reportedly was losing bags of trash out of the bed of the truck which hit another vehicle at Standard Road and Tuolumne Road in Standard.

   CHP is en route to the scene.

Oversize big rig blocking road in Twain Harte

   August 14, 2015 at 11:25 AM:  An oversized big rig has been reported blocking Kewin Mill Road at Big Hill Road in the Twain Harte area.

   CHP is en route. It isn't clear if it broke down, is lost, or what happened. Stay clear of the area if you can.

Three vehicle collision on Hwy 88

   August 14, 2015 at 10:45 AM:  A three vehicle collision was reported at the  eastbound Hwy 88 and Hwy 99 interchange in Stockton.

   CHP is at the scene. An ambulance is en route, along with tow trucks. Avoid the area if possible until cleared.

Car vs. Pole in Twain Harte area

   August 14, 2015 at 10:45 AM:  A car has hit a pole on Hunts Road in the Twain Harte area.

   According to a witness, the driver is running down Hunts Road and the pole is leaning. CHP is en route to the scene.

Jerusalem Fire in Lake County

   August 14, 2015: Per Cal Fire the Jerusalem Fire in Lake County is 24,555 acres as of this morning and is 52% contained.

   Evacuations are still in place for most of the area.

Man and dog hit in Jamestown

   August 14, 2015 at 9:35 AM:  A man walking his dog on Seco Street in Jamestown was reportedly hit by and van. His dog was also hit.

   CHP is at the scene. Minor injuries were indicated in this incident.

Cow on Hwy 49

  August 14, 2015 A cow has been reported on Hwy 49 and Main Street in Jamestown.

   Be extra cautious if in the area until CHP can locate the owner and remove the cow from the roadway.

Marks Fire Update

   Cal Fire has given new numbers for the Marks Fire in Angels Camp. As of 8:50 AM on August 14, 2015 the total acres is 140 and containment is 40 %.

  

Marks Fire in Angels Camp Update

   There is no smoke in the sky this morning over Angels Camp, but as of 7:18 PM on August 13, 2015 the Marks Fire in Angels Camp was 120 acres and listed as only 10% contained.

   Two crews from Vallecito must have spent the night at the fire. Their trucks were seen on Hwy 4, covered with dirt, headed back to their headquarters.

Early morning crash in Milton

   August 14, 2015 at 7:50 AM:  At 3:10 AM there was a major injury collision on Milton Road and Rock Creek Road.

   We don't have other details but we will get more information from CHP as soon as possible.
