Fire truck overturned in Farmington

   August 31, 2015 at 7:50 PM:  A fire truck overturned at Hwy 4 and Dunton Lane in Farmington around 5 PM.

   A heavy duty tow truck was required to upright the engine.  Minor injuries were reported.

Major injuries in West Point

  August 31, 2015:  Around 5:10 PM CHP was called about a traffic collision on Skull Flat Road in West Point, a dirt road.

   One person suffered major injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital.  CHP is investigating.

Fire death investigation continues?

     After 70-year-old Clyde Cooley was found dead inside his burning trailer on Pool Station Road in late July, many had questions about how he got trapped inside.

   Also in question was the possible link to the marijuana crop robbery earlier at that location. We have heard nothing more about the case from the Calaveras Sheriff.

Fire in Oakdale

     According to CalFire they responded to a report of a fire in the 13000 block of Orange Blossom Road in Oakdale around 9 PM on August 28, 2015.

   Caused by arcing power lines, two large spots of grass and vegetation burned resulting from a traffic collision before it was contained.

Traffic Hazard in San Andreas

   August 31, 2015 at 3:55 PM:  A grey PT Cruiser was reportedly blocking the roadway at Hwy 12 and Hwy 49 in San Andreas.

   Cal Fire apparently was able to move the car out of the roadway.

School bus collision on Hwy 26

   August 31, 2015 at 3:50 PM:  A school bus on Hwy 26 near Alpine Road collided with some type of sign in Stockton, east of Hwy 99.

   There were children on board, but no one was injured.

Fire in Groveland

   On August 30, 2015 around 11:20 PM Cal Fire responded to a report of a structure fire in the 18000 block of Hwy 120 in Groveland. 

   Several units were on scene and the fire was contained to the attic in the commercial building. The cause has not been determined.  PG&E was notified.

Master of horror, Wes Craven dies

    Over the weekend, the "Nightmare on Elm Street" creator and director passed away. Wes Craven died in his home in Los Angeles.  He was 76.

   "Scream" was another of his horror films.

One survivor in Hwy 50 crash

   Late on Sunday August 30, 2015  four people were riding in an SUV on Hwy 50 in El Dorado County that left the road, went down an embankment and hit a tree.

   The top was ripped off the SUV and three were ejected from the vehicle and killed.  The only person who was wearing a seatbelt survived, climbed back up onto the highway and flagged down some help.

Mt. McKinley is gone!!

   The President is in Alaska for a special occasion.  That is, to rename Mt. McKinley Mt. Denali, the way the natives said should always have been.

   There are some McKinley fans who were not happy with the changes, however.

Body found in West Point

   On August 29, 2015 around 4:10 PM the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office responded to a rural area off Winton Road in West Point.

Overturned vehicle on Hwy 4

   August 31, 2015 at 1:40 PM:  An overturned vehicle has been reported on Hwy 4 at Hewitt Road, below Farmington.

   An ambulance is en route, along with CHP. Be extra cautious in the area.

5 vehicle crash on Hwy 99

   August 31, 2015 at 12:35 PM:  A 5 vehicle collision has been reported on Hwy 99 north at Kansas Ave in Modesto.  CHP is staying busy. An ambulance is en route.

   One lane apparently has a slick substance in it, and traffic is backed up due to several collisions in the area.  Slow down and avoid this area if possible.

Multi-vehicle collision in Modesto

   August 31, 2015 at 12:30 PM:  A multi-vehicle collision has been reported on Hwy 99 northbound at Pelandale in Modesto.

    Fortunately only minor injuries have been indicated.  Traffic is backed up on Hwy 99 heading north for some time now.

Motorcycle vs semi-Hit and Run

   August 31, 2015 at 12:15 PM:  A motorcycle was reportedly struck by a semi that apparently kept on driving at northbound Hwy 99 at Applegate Road in Atwater.

   Caltrans has been requested to put a sign truck out for slow traffic. An ambulance is responding due to injuries.

  

Car into levee off Hwy 99

   August 31, 2015 at 12:10 PM:  A vehicle ran off Hwy 99 at Foppiano Lane in Stockton and into the levee.

   The water is about 4' deep. The driver is out of the vehicle. No injuries are indicated. A tow truck has been dispatched.

Multi-vehicle crash on I-5

   August 31, 2015 at 9:10 AM:  A multi-vehicle crash has been reported on I-5 at Hwy 4 in Stockton. CHP is at the scene.

   An ambulance and another CHP are en route. Avoid the area if possible.

Calaveras Community Band plays on Labor Day

   On Labor Day, which is September 7, 2015 the Calaveras Community Band, led by Mic Harper, will perform in the gazebo at Murphys Community Park.

   The concert begins at 6:30 PM and will include Latin, jazz, swing and patriotic music to try and please everyone.

Toyota and motorcyle collide

  August 31, 2015 at 6:50 AM:  A Suzuki motorcycle and a Toyota have collided at Santa Fe Avenue and Berkeley Road outside Ceres.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene, along with CHP. Be extra cautious if in that area.

   August 30, 2015 at 3:20 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Cole Drive and Ashley Lane in Morada involving a black truck and a silver SUV.

    Emergency personnel, including an ambulance are en route to the scene. The roadway is currently blocked.

   August 30, 2015 at 2:30 PM:  A motorcycle collision has been reported on Lower Sacramento Road and Eight Mile Road in the Lodi area.

   August 30, 2015 at 2 PM:  A vehicle and a bicycle have collided at Alpine Ave and Wilson Way in Stockton.

Football fans run from stands

    The Friday night football game between Stagg High and Lincoln High was called off at half time due to rumors of a possible shooting, as fans ran from the stands on both sides.

   A fight had broken out and suddenly people began running out of the stands as the fear of a possible shooting spread.  Police did not find any evidence of a shooting, but they stopped the game just in case,

Head-on Crash on Hwy 4

   UPDATE:  CHP now indicates injuries are minor in this collision because it was more of a sideswipe than a direct head-on. Avoid the area while CHP clears the roadway, if possible.

Missing Folsom hiker found alive

   The Intel employee from Folsom, who went hiking with friends in the Sierra National Forest and then got lost, was missing for 9 days.

   Yesterday, she was found, after searchers heard her blowing a whistle she carried with her. She had broken bones, but did survive her ordeal.

German Shepherd on Hwy 99

   August 30, 2015 at 9:05 AM:  A German Shepherd with a collar is running in the center divide of southbound Hwy 99 at Crows Landing Road.

   Be extra cautious until CHP can get on scene and remove the dog.

Smoke check in Ebbetts Pass

   August 30, 2015 at 9 AM:  Hard to believe that anyone would dare be burning debris in Ebbetts Pass, but someone has reported smoke on Meko Drive in Arnold.

   Ebbetts Pass Fire has been dispatched to the area. If no other dispatches have been made, so the fire must be out or there was no fire.

   August 29, 2015 at 5:20 PM:  A Toyota that ran off Hwy 99 at Liberty Road and into the ditch in the Galt area, was found to have beer bottles inside and no occupants.

   Two injured apparently just appeared at Lodi Memorial Hospital. CHP is investigating.

Cow out on Hwy 12

   August 29, 2015 at 5:14 PM:  a cow has been reported out on Hwy 12 at Lime Creek Road in Valley Springs.

Sonora woman arrested for vehicle theft and assault

    According to the Calaveras Sheriff, on August 28, 2015 they arrested Jamie Rene Njirich (38) of Sonora on Hwy 49 at the Stevenot Bridge.

   Njirich was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for all alleged Theft of a Vehicle and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, not a firearm, both felonies and for Battery of a Spouse, a misdemeanor.

Cow out in Vallecito

   August 29, 2015 at 6:45 AM:  A cow is out walking at Vallecito Bypass Road and Hwy 4, so be extra cautious if in the area.

Car overturns into canal off Hwy 4

   August 29, 2015 at 6:10 AM:  A car overturned at Hwy 4 and Tracy Boulevard in Stockton and ended up in the canal.

  A passerby threw the driver a rope to pull him out of the canal and called CHP. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A tow truck has been dispatched to the scene.

   On Wednesday, September 2, 2015 the Calaveras Council of Governments (CCOG) will meet at 6:30 PM in the Calaveras Board of Supervisors Chambers in San Andreas.

   On the agenda is discussing strategy for the Hwy 4 Wagon Trail Project between Copperopolis and Angels Camp.

Traffic collision on Ridge Road in Martell

   August 26, 2015 at 1:30 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Ridge Road near the Ampine plant in Martell.   CHP and an ambulance are en route to the scene.

   Several fire engines have been dispatched to this collision. Use caution if in the area.

500,000 gallons of sewage at Waikiki Beach

   Hawaii's Waikiki Beach had to be closed due to a sewage spill, as 500,000 gallons of sewage overflowed from manholes in town onto the beach.

   Authorities are saying it was a heavy rain that caused the spill.

Suspect in live TV news killings is dead

   It turns out that apparently the man who killed two TV news people in Virginia live was actually a former colleague.

   A reported and camera man were both killed.  The former employee is said to have committed suicide just hours later.

SF Diocese cardinal arrested for DUI

     Cardinal William Joseph Levada, of Menlo Park, was arrested in Hawaii after being seen swerving in the roadway by police.

   Through the arch-diocese, the 79-year-old  released a statement that he regrets his error in judgment and will cooperate with police.

   August 26, 2015 at 9 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 120 at Jack Tone Road in Manteca.

Body found in Ceres canal

   On August 25, 2015 around 10 AM a bicyclist noticed a lifeless body floating in the canal in Ceres, near Hatch Avenue.

    The Stanislaus County Coroners Office took custody of the body and will conduct an autopsy. It was a male in his late 50's. No other details are available at this time.

Solo vehicle crash in Tracy area

   August 23, 2015 at 4:25 PM:  A solos vehicle ran off Wing Levee Road in the Tracy area and into a field.

   An air ambulance was required as the driver has major injuries. Avoid the area if possible.

Traffic collision in Sonora

   August 25, 2015 at 4 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Stockton Road at North Forest Road in Sonora.

Fire at Martell Safeway

 UPDATE at 5:15 PM:  Fire crews have ended their incident. Apparently the problem was located and the fire danger is over.

   August 25, 2015 at 3:25 PM:  A brown pickup and a gray van collided at Beachwood Drive and Santa Fe Road in Merced.  This is just off Hwy 99.

   One person was fatally injured in this collision. Tow trucks are clearing the roadway.

Suicides linked to Ashley Madison website hack??

   Toronto Police are now investigating two suicides they believe may be linked to them being exposed by the hackers of the Ashley Madison website hackers.

   Also, there are lawsuits being filed against the cheaters website for not protecting itself  and it's clients from hackers.

Black Women's Book Club kicked off Napa Wine Train

   Posted on the Wine Train's website was that the 11 women traveling on the Napa Valley Wine Train had actually assaulted people.  But that was apparently not true. Very interesting!!

   They had been asked not to talk, but were shocked when police escorted them off the train at a mid-stop.  Now, why would a swanky white persons wine train throw off 11 obviously educated black women????

   August 25, 2015 at 1 PM:  A school bus has reportedly collided with another vehicle at Brighton Avenue and Wylie Drive, behind Downey High School in Modesto.

      Very interesting conversation with Cal Fire about their current land inspection policies and property rights, etc.  They now are trying to take away our FREEDOM of SPEECH!

    When I mentioned that in Ebbetts Pass, those people who inspect are called the "Pine needle and tree Nazi's," the Cal Fire person acted all offended.

   August 24, 2015 at 12:15 PM:  An injured fawn has been reported on Hwy 88 at Mace Meadows.

Gunfire reported in West Point

   On August 24, 2015 a resident on John Eaph Trail and Smitty Lane in West Point reported hearing gunfire.

   No report was taken by the Sheriff.

Under the bridge and intoxicated? The county TROLL?

   On August 24, 2015  the Calaveras Sheriff was called to report a man was under the bridge on St. Andrews Road in Valley Springs, intoxicated.

   Sounds like the county TROLL we so often report on. An arrest was made by a deputy, but it turned out not to be the TROLL we know.

Cruelty to Animals in Valley Springs--Sheriff does NOTHING??

   On August 24, 2015 a resident reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that a man was dragging, hitting and yelling at a dog on Snag Court.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report of the incident.  Why do people in Calaveras get away with animal abuse, poisoning, trapping and torturing?  As the Sheriff!  His best friends??

Felony Vandalism arrest in Angels Camp

     On August 24, 2015 at 8:55 AM the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested James Alan Moser, III (37) of Angels Camp, at Ranch Road and Murphys Grade Road.

    Moser was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on alleged Felony Vandalism, destroying others property and for Exhibiting a Deadly Weapon, not a firearm, a misdemeanor.

Man run over by Jelly Belly owners' tank

   At a family reunion, being held on private land owned by the same people who own and operate the Jelly Belly Candy Co., people were riding on the 1940's tanks he collects and keeps on his property in Fairfield.

   A 55-year-old man from Suisan City fell off and right under the track of the tank and was killed when it ran over him.

CalSTRS says they're not selling

   The California State Teachers Retirement System has $191.3 billion in assets under management, the 2nd largest in the country.

    When asked if they are nervous or selling, their chief investment officer said they are in it for the long haul and are not selling off.

Car overturned in Tracy

   August 25, 2015 at 6:50 AM:  A car reportedly went airborne and flipped over on Hwy 33 and Koster in the Tracy area.

    CHP is en route to the scene, along with an ambulance. Witnesses said it flipped over more than once.

  August 24, 2015:  If you think the world is not fully connected financially, you can certainly see it today, as the DOW Jones average plunged nearly 600 points.  At the open, it was nearer 1000 down.

   Shanghai was sharply down and considered to have crashed as China suffers from economic slowdowns.  CNBC analysts were notably nervous.

Grinder causes fire in Knights Ferry

      On August 22, 2015 around 6:15 PM Cal Fire responded to a reported fire on Shell Road in Knights Ferry.

   Several Cal Fire air and ground units were dispatched to the fire, which burned 3 acres and destroyed a generator. A grinder was the reported cause of the fire.

   Amador County Board of Supervisors is likely to approve a rate increase both for residential and commercial trash pickup in the county at their Tuesday August 25, 2015 meeting.

Teen dies at Lake Tahoe

   A 15 year old boy was pulled from Lake Tahoe over the weekend by several people who then administered CPR.

   The boy, however, could not be revived. His name has not been released.

Rough Fire nears 50,000 acres

   As of August 24, 2015 at 6:31 AM the Rough Fire has been updated by the USFS to nearly 50,000 acres and is only 17% contained. This fire is near Hume Lake in the Sierra National Forest.

   The missing hiker, a woman from Folsom, has still not been located. This fire was caused by lightning.

Peterson Fire in Lake County

   As of August 23, 2015 at 8:45 AM the Peterson Fire, which was reported in Lake County on August 22, 2015 about 5:30 PM, is 200 acres with 17% containment.

   The cause of this fire is under investigation. It is located near the town of Kelseyville.

San Andreas man arrested in Angels Camp

   On August 22, 2015 the Angels Camp Police Department arrested Nathan Erle Winkler (40) of San Andreas on North Main Street for alleged Violation of Parole, a felony and for DUI of any Drug, Control Substance Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance, misdemeanors.

   Winkler was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Horse trailer over embankment

   August 23, 2015 at 11:30 AM:  A truck pulling a 30' horse trailer went over the embankment at Tabeau and Clinton in Pine Grove.

    No horses were in the trailer at the time. No injuries were indicated. CHP is at the scene and a tow truck has been dispatched.

Major injury collision in Madera

   August 22, 2015 at 11:05 AM:  A traffic collision was reported as a head-on collision between a truck and a van at Avenue 9 near Road 35 in Madera.

   Major injuries resulted from this collision and there is some question of who was the driver, as it is not the one expected to be driving.  They are clearing the roadway now and towing the vehicles away.  There is also a question about plates on one of the vehicles.

Rough Fire in Sierra National Forest

   As of 9 AM on August 21, 2015 the Rough Fire in the Sierra National Forest was 39,400 acres and only 3% contained.

    It is headed towards the Kings River and Hume Lake. This fire was lightning caused.

The Wolves are back in California

   The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is announcing that their game cameras have captured photos of a wolf pack, some are cubs, in the Shasta area of Northern California.

    You are not allowed to hunt, harass, trap, or in any way harm a wolf in California. F&W says they seldom ever bother man.

   The Mad River Complex Fire and the Route Fire have been placed under one command with total acreage burned as of 7:30 AM on August 21, 2015 at 31,190 and containment now at 65%.

Juvenile drives car off Hwy 140

   August 21, 2015 at 8:15 AM:  A juvenile apparently drove a vehicle off Hwy 140 at Plainsburg Road in Planada.

Rocky Fire in Lake County human caused

   Cal Fire investigated the cause of the massive Rocky Fire in Lake County that burned nearly 70,000 acres and found the origin of the blaze.

    Apparently someone had a faulty water heater in an outbuilding, along with flammable liquids. The blaze destroyed 43 homes and 53 outbuildings.

   August 19, 2015 at 9:10 AM: A motorcycle and car have reportedly collided on Hwy 108 in front of Wood's Creek Café in Jamestown.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Minor injuries have been indicated by CHP.

  

Cal Fire report of Fire off Hwy 108- Hills Fire

   According to a Cal Fire report, at 10:32 AM on August 18, 2015 they responded to a report of a grass fire at Hwy 108 and J59 in the Jamestown area of Tuolumne County.

   Several engine crews, bulldozers, a copter and air tanker were able to extinguish the fire at 51 acres.   The cause was determined to be welding.

Cuesta Fire in San Luis Obispo County

    As of 8 AM on August 19, 2015 the Cuesta Fire in San Luis Obispo County off Hwy 101 is 2500 acres and is only 15 % contained.

   Evacuations are in Santa Margarita and Miller Flat area. Six helicopters and 2 airtankers are currently assigned to this fie.

Dead deer on Mountain Ranch Road

   August 19, 2015 at 6:25 AM:  A dead deer is reportedly in the roadway on Mountain Ranch Road at Windmill Circle in San Andreas.

   Be careful if headed that way until CHP can clear the roadway.

......says Minnesota State Patrol Officers. They are saying its against the law to stop, to swerve or in any way keep yourself from hitting ducks or other wildlife that gets on the roadways.

   Instead of a natural instinct to keep from killing a living thing, Minnesota says NO! Kill them!

Traffic Collision in Ione

   UPDATE:  A tow truck for a 23,000 lb water truck is required. Minor injuries were caused by this crash.

Teens killed by branch at Yosemite

   Two 14 year old boys from Orange County were killed when a branch fell on their tent while they were camping at Yosemite.

   The limb was from a large oak tree and according to the coroner, they were killed instantly. The reason the branch fell is still unclear at this time.
  

James (Jim) George Sloniker of Mountain Ranch

   Born September 27, 1938 in Sonora, James George Sloniker lived in Mountain Ranch for the past 25 years.

Doug Ose in charge of City of Trees Festival

   The Gibson Ranch held a large "City of Trees Festival " last weekend, with live music and about 9000 people attended.

   It was apparently badly organized, running out of water, many complained, as parking lots were blocked with pedestrians, etc.  Doug Ose, who has run for Bigelow's office, was in charge as General Manager of the ranch.

Rosie O'Donnell's 17 year old daughter missing

  UPDATE:  Chelsea O'Donnell has been found and is now in Police custody.

Horse killed in stable fire

   One horse was killed in a fire in a stable in Acampo at Collier and Mackville Road early this morning, according to San Joaquin County authorities.

  Neighbors helped save 8 other horses at the Gateway Farms Stables. The Clements Fire Chief lives only 500 yards away and was the first on the scene. It isn't yet known what caused the explosion and fire.

   August 18, 2015 at 11:10 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Sawmill Flat and Parrotts Ferry Road in Columbia.

   Emergency personnel are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if headed in that direction.

Traffic collision in Jamestown

   August 18, 2015:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 108 and Main Street in Jamestown involving a Ford pickup and a gray four-door.

   No injuries have been indicated, but be extra cautious until CHP can clear the roadway.

Trained Wild Horses for Adoption

    On Saturday August 22, 2015 wild horses that have been halter trained and saddle started will be offered for public adoption.

   The adoption will be held at the Murieta Equestrian Center at 7200 Lone Pine Drive in Rancho Murieta.  It begins at 9 AM with 3 and 4 year old mares, great companion horses.

Car hits mailbox, fence, lands in flowerbed

   August 17, 2015 at 6:15 PM:  A car reportedly hit a mailbox, went through a fence and ended up in a flowerbed of someone else's home on Cherokee Road in Tuolumne.

   No injuries were reported. A tow truck was dispatched to the scene.

Car into canal off Hwy 26

   August 17, 2015 at 6:30 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 26 and Cardinal Street, east of Stockton.

   A can is in the canal. A tow truck and ambulance are en route to the scene.

Calaveras Planning Director Maurer responds:

   Over the weekend, we sent Calaveras Planning Director Peter Maurer an email with questions about recent events.

   First, we stated, "Since now you say you are communicating well, we want to thank you for sending notices, even tho we have to search for what is new."

Dog left tied to pole in Columbia

   August 17, 2015 at 3:15 PM:  A dog has been reportedly left tied to a pole in this 100 degree + heat at Yankee Hill Road and Mountain Boy Mine Road in Columbia.

   Tuolumne Animal Control has been notified.  No CHP unit has been assigned.

Quad rider loses finger

   August 17, 2015 at 2:45 PM:  A collision on Poplar Avenue in Modesto has cost a quad rider a finger.

   Due to the amputation, the rider was transported to a hospital with major injuries, per CHP.

FOCAS (Friends of Calaveras Animal Services) donates "CAT HOUSE"

   The new FOCAS (Friends of Calaveras Animal Services) has donated two portable buildings to the Calaveras Animal Services Department in San Andreas.

   Through donations to the FOCAS organization, they will be set up on the 6 acre parcel

Burglary in Arnold

   On August 16, 2015 a buglary was reported on Splash Dam Way in Arnold, a recreation center pump house was broken into.

     The Sheriff of Calaveras County took no report.

  

Abandoned Fire in Arnold

  UPDATE:  There seems to be some disagreement about who is responsible for their fires between Alpine and Calaveras.

    An Alpine County worker just wanted someone to go check, but Calaveras did not seem interested.

Traffic collision on Hwy 99

   August 17, 2015 at 12:05 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on northbound Hwy 99 at Morada Lane in Stockton. 100 ' of fence and 8 poles were damaged.

    A solo vehicle apparently spun out, hit the center divide and then went into the ditch on the right hand side of the roadway. An ambulance is en route to the scene.
