Butte Fire now in Calaveras County/Moke Hill burning

    UPDATE at 8:30 PM:  Acreage now burned is 1000 acres and growing. Another road closure has been issued at Jesus Maria Road off Hwy 26.

Fires off Hwy 88--The Butte Fire

   UPDATE at 7:20 PM:  Hard closure on Hwy 26 at Mokelumne Hill Elementary School. Caltrans says it will be another hour before they arrive.

  UPDATE:  A fire has resulted from this collision. Several engines, a bulldozer and water tenders are responding to the scene.

   September 9, 2015 at 12:30 PM:  A haystack has been reported on fire at Arboleda and Yosemite Highway outside Merced.

Traffic collision on Obyrnes Ferry Road

   September 9, 2015 at 12:15 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Obyrnes Ferry Road on the Tuolumne County side of the bridge.

   A vehicles went 30' over the side, but landed on its wheels. No injuries have been specified. Use extra caution while CHP has a tow truck pull the vehicle back up onto the roadway.

Calaveras County having a cat and kitten sale (while they last)

   Calaveras county Animal Services is having a "Moving Sale" in anticipation of opening its new cat housing at the shelter.

   According to CHP, on September 8, 2015 at around 4:45 PM they responded to a solo motorcycle collision

34 Fires on American River Parkway Bike Trail--Coming to Angels Creek trail?

   A report was released this morning that since May 2015 there have been 34 human-caused fires on the American River Parkway in the Sacramento area. Then, of course, there are the rapes and murders, drug dealing and manufacture.

Fire in PIne Grove

  September 9, 2015 at 11:15 AM:  A fire has been reported on the side of Hwy 88 and Climax Road in Pine Grove.

   Cal Fire is responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

   Dear Editor:

     I read the article you wrote about how bad postal employees treat people, especially businesses in Calaveras County.

Car vs pole on Jack Tone Road

   September 9, 2015 at 10:45 AM:  A car hit a power pole on Jack Tone Road in Ripon and the lines are down in the roadway, just off Hwy 99.

     An ambulance is en route and two CHP are currently at the scene.

Traffic collision in Sutter Creek

   September 9, 2015 at 9:50 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Prospect and Ridge in Sutter Creek.

   One person is in need of an ambulance. Be extra cautious if in the area.

Big Hill Road will reopen--please stay away

   CHP and Cal Fire expect to be able to reopen Big Hill Road to regular traffic by 10 AM.  Old Oak Ranch Road will remain closed.

   If you don't live in the area, please do not drive through, as fire personnel and utility crews are still on scene.

Semi involved collision in Patterson--Now fatality

  UPDATE:  Sadly, at least one person has not survived this crash per CHP.  Instead of a semi, it was apparently a large box truck that was involved. Two vehicles have been towed for evidence.


   As of 6:30 AM on September 9, 2015 Cal Fire reports that no acreage increased due to the fire during the night, (102 acres) and containment is now 50%.

    This one scared a lot of people with recent memories of the Rim Fire still all too fresh. Be careful with tools, cigarettes, BBQ's, etc. as the fire weather is the worst now until it rains!  The cause is still under investigation.

Cal Fire pickup in Jackson crash

   September 9, 2015 at 8:30 AM:  A Cal Fire pickup has collided with another vehicle on Hwy 49 at Hwy 88 in front of the Jackson Post Office.

   No injuries have been reported. Three CHP are en route to the scene.

Traffic collision in Valley Springs

   September 9, 2015 at 8:25 AM:  Two cars reportedly have collided at Nove Way and Hwy 26 in Valley Springs.

   No injuries have been indicated, but the roadway is blocked. CHP is en route. Use extra caution getting though that area.

Foster Farms truck in collision in Turlock

   September 9, 2015 at 6:20 AM:  A Foster Farms truck and a black pickup have collided at Santa Fe Avenue and East Avenue in Turlock.

   CHP is en route to the scene. It is not blocking the roadway and no injuries have been reported.

Traffic Collision in Lockeford

   September 9, 2015 at 6 AM:  A traffic collision involving a red Toyota and a grey pickup was reported at Hwy 12 and Bruella Road in the Lockeford. area.

   CHP is at the scene. An ambulance is en route. The collision is blocking the roadway, so be extra careful if headed that way.
