House covered with ash, but still standing

   We received an email awhile ago from a couple in Moke Hill who were evacuated last night and thought sure their home would be gone today because of the Butte Fire.

   They were allowed to go down the street where they live and although it is covered in ash, it is still standing. That's such good news.

Mandatory Evacuations in Amador County

  Cal Fire has issued mandatory evacuations for Amador County for Canyon View, Fig Tree Lane, Ponderosa, the entire town of Pine Grove, including Ranch Road and Clinton Road.

   Evacuation center is Amador County Fairgrounds for both people and animals.

Helicopter back to Butte Fire from Lake Tahoe

   September 10, 2015 at 4:50 PM:  When Cal Fire was told that the helicopter that broke down was now repaired, they chose to have it come back down to the Butte Fire.

   That seems like a sign they still do not have a handle on this fire.

  September 10, 2015 at 4:25 PM:  You will now find a deputy or CHP parked at Railroad Flat Road and Jesus Maria Road.

   They are now closed to through traffic due to the Butte Fire. Avoid the area. Fire crews are trying to save homes.

Open gate to save cows

   September 10, 2015 at 4 PM:  A man who is being evacuated on Hwy 26 in the Moke Hill area has left his gate open, per CHP, so his cows won't burn.

   If you drive through that area, please be extra cautious so you don't hit any animals that may be loose.

There are some tired firefighters on the lines! Thank you!!

   Working a double shift is always difficult, but times it by working on a fire line and in this 100 degree heat on the Butte Fire.

   There are some very tired firefighters out there trying to save Mokelumne Hill residents homes. Thank you, firefighters. Hope they're feeding you well!

Ash now falling in Ebbetts Pass

   September 10, 2015 at 3:40 PM:  Ash is now falling in the Ebbetts Pass area.  It almost seems like snow, but could be very dangerous.

   Keep your eyes open, as the ash falls. If it is hot enough, it could start even more fires. Be alert! 
We are told that it is cold ash, coming all the way from the Mokelumne Hill area, the Butte Fire.

New Fire in Jackson

  UPDATE at 3:50 PM:  This fire reached 15 acres, but is now contained. It did scorch the side of one building.

    September 10, 2015 at 3:30 PM:  A new fire has been reported on Hwy 49 near Ridge Road in Jackson.

   It is currently two acres; they are going to divert an aircraft to try and stop it early.

More evacuations in Butte Fire in Mokelumne Hill

   As of 2:30 PM on September 10, 2015 Cal Fire shows the Butte Fire ordering more evacuations; Hwy 49, south of Hwy 88 to the Calaveras and Amador County lines.

   Also evacuated are Clinton Road and Ponderosa Way.   Railroad Flat is now closed at Ridge Road.

Rollover collision on Railroad Flat Road

   September 10, 2015 at 3:20 PM:  A rollover vehicle collision has been reported on Railroad Flat Road near Wherrgard Road.

    An ambulance has been dispatched to the scene. Be extra careful if headed in that direction.

Angels Camp City Council to meet

   The Angels Camp City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at the Angels Firehouse at 6 PM.

   On the agenda is maintenance of the sewer laterals and maintenance of trees on Public property. No details are given. We will attempt to get the packet.

Calaveras County Animal Services about evacuated pets or livestock

   September 10, 2015 at 3 PM:  Calaveras County Animal Services has just released a notice about evacuated domestic animals due to the Butte Fire.

  UPDATE at 2:30 PM:  Crews are trying to protect homes on Hwy 26 at this time. Air tankers are dumping retardant again and again all along the roadway.

Calaveras full of smoke

   September 10, 2015 at 2:15 PM:   We have heard from just about everywhere in Calaveras County this afternoon and asked about smoke.

   Ebbetts Pass, which had been virtually smoke free this morning, is now covered with smoke. If you have respiratory issues, stay inside.  This is all smoke from the Butte Fire in Mokelumne Hill.

Homes on ridge above Mokelumne Drainage could be in danger

   September 10, 2015 at 2 PM:  The fire is shown only a mile from the homes on the high ridge above the Mokelumne River Drainage.

   They aren't sure what they are going to do to stop it at this time.  The Butte Fire command is short units.

CHP moving road closure toward Railroad Flat

   September 10, 2015 at 2 PM:  The road closure on Hwy 26 is being moved down closer to the Cal Fire station on Hwy 26 toward Railroad Flat.

   They are checking on any new evacuations needed at this time.

Vehicle rollover on Hwy 108

   September 10, 2015 at 1:55 PM:  A vehicle has reportedly rolled over at Hwy 108 and Soulsbyville Drive.

   CHP and an ambulance are responding to the scene. Be extra careful in the area.

Traffic collision in Sutter Creek

   September 10, 2015 at 1:50 PM:  A traffic collision with at least one injury has been reported at Ridge Road and Winton Road in Sutter Creek.

   CHP is responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Truck vs tree at Toyon

   September 10, 2015 at 1:40 PM:   A truck has reportedly hit a tree at Hwy 26 and Toyon.

   CHP is en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Cal Fire engine surrounded, life threatening situation

UPDATE at 2:30 PM:  Indications have been given that this situation has been mitigated, which is good news.

Three additional helicopters needed for Butte Fire--Warnings to residents

   Three more type 2 helicopters have been requested and more heavy tankers for battling the Butte Fire.

    Cal Fire is borrowing them from all over Northern California to try and contain the Butte Fire.

   Also, warning have been issued to residents who have not evacuated when they were instructed to do so.

Diamond and Lower Dorray Road evacuations, law enforcement

   September 10, 2015 at 12:35 PM:   Cal Fire has asked for law enforcement assistance in evacuating Diamond Land and Lower Dorray Road and Hwy 26 in Mokelumne Hill.

   There are still apparently some people who have not left after being evacuated.  Hwy 49 is being closed off too.

New Structure Fire in West Point--No resources aviailable

  UPDATE:  One bucket was dumped on the Sawyer Incident. It is believed they have it contained, although an outbuilding is lost.

Wildfire Smoke warning in Calaveras

   The Calaveras County Air Pollution Control District has just issued a Public Service Announcement due to the smoke from the Butte Fire.  Be cautious about breathing in the smoke.

   If you have any respiratory problems you need to stay indoors. Parts of the County are worse than others.  Angels Camp is real bad, but Ebbetts Pass, above Murphys is relatively clear.  Of course, in the fire area, the smoke is overwhelming. 

Janice Marie Raaka of West Point

   Janice Marie Raaka of West Point passed away on August 21, 2015 of natural causes in Jackson. She was 75.

Homes, outbuildings destroyed in Butte Fire

  September 10, 2015 at 9:30 AM:   We just learned that officially Cal Fire shows 6 homes and 2 outbuildings have been destroyed in the Butte Fire so far.

   The report shows currently there are 3 helicopters and 6 air tankers assigned to this fire.

  

Large animal shelters for Butte Fire evacuees

      The Calaveras County Fairgrounds is taking in large animals in Calaveras County, evacuated from the Butte Fire.

   In Amador County the Amador County Fairgrounds is accepting evacuated large animals.

    We should never forget what the Republicans try to do to us. Yesterday, Sarah Palin, once McCains choice to be VP, gave a speech we THINK was supposed to be about Iran, but was so convoluted it was hard to tell.

   We need to remember what kind of people Mr. Trump is choosing; looks like Ted Cruz for VP and Palin for Energy Secretary. OMG!!

Air tankers and copters back on Butte Fire

   September 10, 2015 at 9:20 AM:  The air tankers and helicopters are back on the Butte Fire, spreading retardant and dumping water wherever it's needed.

   The fire has made such a run that people are saying they can now see the fire from where they live who couldn't before.  Air support should help.  They are currently trying to get more air support from other areas.

Cal Fire setting backfires in Butte Fire

   September 10, 2015 at 9:05 AM:  We just heard that Cal Fire is beginning to set backfires to try and stop the Butte Fire.

  We aren't sure exactly where, but they have to do something to stop this fire or it could reach Mountain Ranch and beyond.  The winds seem to be erratic though, so backfiring is taking a big chance.

Railroad Flat residents no power, packed and ready to evacuate Butte Fire

   September 10, 2015 at 8:50 AM:  We just spoke to residents in the Railroad Flat area. They are without power, and are packed and ready to go in a moment's notice, to escape the Butte Fire.

   Hopefully, Cal Fire can cut lines at Ponderosa and Jesus Maria to stop this fire. Firefighters are on double shifts today to try and get a hold of this fire.

    Even areas where people had nearly clear-cut their land did not and cannot stop a fire of this magnitude, and the wind blows the live sparks over to the nearest vegetation and continues on.

Dozers headed for Jesus Maria Road and Ponderosa in Butte Firefight

   September 10 2015 at 8:20 AM:  Bulldozers are headed for Jesus Maria Road and Ponderosa to try and build a fire line, as the fire has jumped some of the lines put in late yesterday.

Calaveras Sheriff issues new number for public on Butte Fire

   The Calaveras Sheriff's department has issued a number for the public to call for information on the Butte Fire, burning in Amador and Calaveras counties.

   The Amador District PIO has just put out new numbers on the Butte Fire. It is now over 4000 acres and they have lowered their containment to 20%.

   He stated that during the night, the air remained dry and the fire progressed in all directions. Air support should begin at daylight.

Town of Mokelumne HIll being evacuated--7 homes lost

   September 10, 2015 at 5:20 AM:  We just received notice that the entire town of Mokelumne Hill is being evacuated due to the Butte Fire. Law enforcement, including CHP and the Calaveras Sheriff's Office are assisting.

   Also, a Command Post is being set up at Amador County Fairgrounds for crews battling the Butte Fire.

   Overnight 7 homes in the Calaveras County area of Mokelumne Hill have been destroyed. An accurate count on other structures is still not known.

Cal Fire orders Incident I type management team for Butte Fire

   This morning, September 10, 2015 an Incident I type fire management team should be taking over at Cal Fire, still burning in multiple directions in both Amador and Calaveras County.

   For those not aware, this is a step up in battling a major fire. This is a major fire and today is going to be another hot day, just prime for fire.

  UPDATE:  The fire did spread into the Robinson Ranch overnight. We don't have details yet. In Amador County, Canyon View, Butte Mountain Road, Clinton Road, Ponderosa Fig Tree Way.

Shelter for Evacuees of Butte Fire in Calaveras County

   The only shelter the Calaveras County Sheriff is showing at this time is the San Andreas Town Hall. The phone number listed is 743-1575.  We understand that the Mokelumne Hill Elementary School is also being used.

   We haven't seen anything for animals yet. The Butte Fire was 2600 acres around midnight on September 10, 2015.  We will update when we receive more information. Containment is listed at 30%. Thousands are without power due to lines destroyed overnight.
