Many attempts to get into Butte Fire area --Thank you CHP

We have seen CHP be consistent and

We have seen many reported attempts to gain access to the Butte Fire area, especially those areas that remain in the fire zone; often looters or other criminals, using the fire to help themselves to peoples belongings.

Thanks to CHP, few have made it; but they continue the attempts, saying they are workers or firemen, etc. At least CHP is helping residents keep their property safe.

Cal Fire's Daniel Berlant / Auburn City Council

Warning to locals: Price gouging!

This morning on KCRA 3 they ran a story showing one gas station in Calaveras County lowering prices for one day. However:

. The story they were really doing was about complaints the State of California is getting about price gouging by some as yet unnamed businesses in or around the Butte Fire area.

It is illegal to raise prices more than 10% after a disaster. If you feel you are being what they call "gouged" report it to the state. Channel 3 is also going to follow up on this, so you might tell them about it.

Sheriff Kuntz happy to help Butte Fire victims

We were just told unofficially that apparently Sheriff Kuntz is so happy to be able to give his personal attention to the voters who re-elected him just a few months ago, that he hopes everyone calls his office or cell to get the information they need about the Butte Fire.

The Office of Emergency Services for Calaveras County is Sheriff Gary Kuntz, and no other. He loves the job and is right on top of all information that he should be, like details of houses burned, power outages, etc.

He doesn't want anyone to hesitate to call him when they need to know what is going on while this horrendous Butte Fire is ongoing.  See next article for his numbers.

Suddenly Sheriff Kuntz takes over Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services

UPDATE:  We have been told that the Calaveras Sheriff's main number 209-754-6500 doesn't want to be bothered by OES calls. We aren't sure why, since its on their main website. And the county website says nothing anyone needs to know.

Therefore, we are certain that Sheriff Kuntz will be happy to help citizens who cannot get information to call another number we've been given for him which is 209-754-6552 or even his cell number of 209-256-6184.

We are sure the Sheriff truly wants to help everyone, so if the dispatchers at the main number are mean to you or disinterested, be sure to make a complaint to him.

No one will answer questions?

To say that the Butte Fire emergency was not well-handled by Calaveras County officials is putting it way too mildly. For example:
