Logger crushed by log in El Dorado National Forest

   A logger was pronounced dead at the scene after a log crushed him while he was on the job on Wentworth Springs Road in El Dorado County.

   The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case. The name is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

Sean Penn at Madonna concert

   It turns out that Madonna's ex-husband Sean Penn still thinks she's wonderful. He was seen sitting front and center at a concert in Vancouver, Canada last night.

Eight CHP units at Major injury collision

  UPDATE:  Now we know why eight CHP units were dispatched to this collision. A CHP unit was involved in this collision.

Large generator stolen in West Point

   On October 14, 2015 a resident in West Point reported that a large generator had been stolen.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report of Grand Theft.

The disappearing wallet in Arnold

   On October 14, 2015 a woman on Oak Circle in Arnold reported she lost her wallet and that the business located it.

   Then apparently while the employee was in the kitchen, someone else took the wallet.  The Calaveras Sheriff took no report of the incident.

Burglary in Hathaway Pines

   On October 14, 2015 a resident on Hwy 4 in Hathaway Pines reported their car had been broken into and items had been stolen.  If you know anything about this burglary, please contact the SierraSentinel by email.

   Interesting that the Calaveras Sheriff took a report of this burglary, but refused when another persons property was burglarized in the same area for over $10,000 worth of items. Depends on if you are tea potty like the Sheriff, apparently.

Angels Camp resident arrested

   On October 14, 2015 around 1:30 AM Angels Camp Police arrested Brian Justin James (43) of Angels Camp after a brief chase on Stanislaus Ave.

   James was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale, a felony, and for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Destroying or Concealing Evidence, both misdemeanors.

Twain Harte man dies in freak collision

   UPDATE:  The Twain Harte man who lost his life in this tragedy was Duane F. Smith (69).

Big rig collision in Pioneer

   October 15, 2015 at 1 PM:   A big rig traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 88 and Salt Springs Road in Pioneer.

Stronger gun laws in California?

   Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsome is proposing legislation requiring background checks on purchases of ammunition in California.

   Also in the new law is mandatory reporting of lost or stolen guns and a ban on possession of large capacity magazines.  It should be on next year's ballot.

Donkey Adoption in Davis

   The Bureau of Land Management and the Davis University are holding a Donkey Welfare Symposium, to be held on November 6, 7 and 8, 2015 at the University of California, Davis Campus.

   Donkeys will be available for adoption on November 8, 2015 from the BLM and the Donkey Sanctuary.  Unlike the Official Calaveras Donkey Pen's elected donkeys, these wonderful animals will enrich your life.

   Former Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives Denis Hastert has apparently decided to plead guilty in Federal court.

Jeep runs off Hwy 26

   October 15, 2015 at 7 AM:  A Jeep has reportedly run off Hwy 26 near Gold Creek in Valley Springs, and into a ditch.

   CHP and other emergency personnel are responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in that area.

Injured animal on Hwy 26

   October 15, 2015 at 6:30 AM:  CHP was just notified of an animal hit by a car at Hwy 26 and Baldwin Street in Valley Springs.

   Use extra caution until they arrive at the scene.
