Friends of the Fair meet October 21, 2015

   The Friends of the Fair will meet on October 21, 2015 at Camps Restaurant.

   The meeting begins at 6 PM. There will be nominees for the vacant Directors position and discussion of roof projects.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

Car vs pole on Hwy 108

   October 16, 2015 at 3 PM:  A car hit a pole at Hwy 108 and L Street in Modesto, according to CHP.

   An ambulance was required for minor injuries. AT&T was dispatched to repair the pole damage. They are now clearing the area.

Traffic Collision on Hwy 4

   October 16, 2015 at 2:30 PM:  A Ford Expedition and a Saab sedan reportedly collided on Hwy 4 at Milton Road, below Copperopolis.

  No injuries were indicated, but the roadway is blocked until a tow truck can remove the vehicles. Use caution in the area. An ambulance was also called to the scene.

Trailer of crushed glass on Hwy 99

   A fully loaded trailer of crushed glass has dumped most of its load on southbound Hwy 99 at the Hwy 4 or Main Street exit.

   CHP is at the scene. Much of the roadway is blocked and it will take Caltrans to clean it up.  Use extra caution or avoid the area if possible.

Lamar Odom off life-support!

   A family member has just announced that Lamar Odom is now off life-support, has opened his eyes and spoken.

   That is good news to his closest friends and family members, who thought they might lose him.

Calaveras Supervisors meet on Butte Fire and to PRAY!!!

   On October 20, 2015 the Calaveras Supervisors, first led by Cliff Edsel, (oops, Edson) will pray for evil women who want rights. The Regular Meeting is supposed to start at 9 AM.

   Then if there is time, they will discuss the Butte Fire and add codes to prevent property owners from moving back onto their land.

Calaveras Community Fund donates to 8 groups

   The Calaveras Community Fund, which has been collecting and seeking donations to help the Butte Fire victims has decided how to spend the money raised so far.

   It will be divided between eight organizations:

Illegal arms dealers in Riverbank--too close!!

   It seems like guns are a major problem in our area--the FEDS arrested 8 from the Riverbank area, not far from the Calaveras and Tuolumne County lines. We understand that one was even a San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office employee.

Leaves starting to turn....

   While summer seems to want to stay all year these days, we have seen signs of leaves beginning to turn into their fall colors.

CCWD answers to the public they serve????

   On the Home Page of the Calaveras County Water District's website it states boldly "CCWD answers to the public we serve through a 5 member Board of Directors.   Each Director is elected by voters within their respective boundaries

Three in one night? How many more in Calaveras??

  As we reviewed the arrests on October 15, 2015, we noticed that THREE felons were arrested for allegedly having a gun.

   We have to figure, if three are caught in one day, how many are out there with guns all the time in Calaveras County?   OMG!!

Lenora Wilson of Sonora

     Lenora D. Wilson was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on February 27, 1925, the youngest of Andrew and Maggie Downie's four daughters.

Felon in Possession of Firearm alleged

   On October 15, 2015 the Calaveras County Sheriff arrested Lucas Edward Statzer (27) of Modesto on Hwy 4 in Copperopolis around 2:30 PM.

   Statzer was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a felony and for Driving on a Suspended License, a misdemeanor and was released on Bond.

Murphys man arrested

    On October 15, 2015 around 10:15 PM Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Frank Dallin Kohout (20) at his residence on Williams Street in Murphys.

   Kohout was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a Crime with Intent to Terrorize, a felony, and for disorderly Conduct due to Alcohol and Resisting Arrest, both misdemeanors.

Angels Camp Police arrest Connecticut Felon

   According to Angels Camp Police, on October 15, 2015 just after midnight at Main Street and Gardner Lane, they arrested Brian Thomas DeAngelis (26) of Connecticut.

    DeAngelis was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Possession of a Firearm by a felon/addict, a felony; and for Possession of a Narcotic Substance and Paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. DeAngelis posted bond and was released.

Angels Camp Police arrest two residents

   On October 15, 2015 Angels Camp Police arrested Michael Dennis Airola (67) of Angels Camp on Appaloosa near Pinto Drive around 12:15 PM.

Save the black cow on Hwy 49

   October 16, 2015 at 8:35 AM:  A black cow is reportedly out of the fence on Hwy 49 near San Domingo Creek between Angels Camp and San Andreas.

   CHP has been notified to find the owner, so please don't tell the troll. She's a nice cow. Be extra cautious in that area.

   October 16, 2015 at 8:25 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on St. Charles Street (Hwy 49) in San Andreas, near the Sierra Super Stop.

   CHP has arrived at the scene and found no injuries indicated. Use extra caution if iin the area.

Trailers just sitting at McClellan Air Force Base

   While FEMA has brought in dozens of trailers supposedly to help provide housing to victims of the Butte Fire, they continue to sit at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento.

   Chris Wright, Calaveras District 2 Supervisor attempted on Tuesday to get the other Board members to give these burned out residents a break, without success. All they could think of was liability to the county if they allow people back onto their own land.

Hazard: Injured deer on Mountain Ranch Road

   October 16, 2015 at 6:35 AM:  An injured deer has been reported on Mountain Ranch Road near Michel Road in San Andreas.

   Use extra caution if in that area until CHP can reach the scene.

Motorcycle hit and run on Hwy 26

     UPDATE at 11:15 AM:  Officers and a K-9 unit are now responding to a citizen reporting of two running across an orchard that may have been involved in this hit and run.
