Fatal Collision in Stockton

   November 30, 2015 at 12 Noon:  A speeding car that reportedly left the roadway, went through a fence at Arch Road and Austin Road in Stockton, then hit a pole.

   Emergency personnel arrived on scene, but were unable to save the driver. They are still investigating. This is near Hwy 99.

Collision in Pinecrest

   November 28, 2015 at 12:30 PM:  A Subaru and a Jeep have reportedly collided at Hwy 108 at the Pincrest Lake turnoff.

   An ambulance and CHP are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in that area.

University of Alberta responds about polar bear collar

   We were pleasantly surprised to get a response from the University of Alberta administration after sending them an email about our concern for Andy the polar bear.

Witness: Speeding car rolls over in Escalon

   November 28, 2015 at 11:30 AM:  A witness reported to CHP that a speeding car on Henry Road at River Road in Escalon, slid through a stop sign, hit a pole a rolled over.

   An ambulance and tow truck are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Snow bunnies heading up to the mountains

   Snow bunnies, skiers, boarders, etc. are all headed up to the ski resorts this weekend.

   Even Bear Valley was scheduled to open today.  Snow is good news for everyone, especially in this drought.

Chicago officials worried about 'public safety' NOW?

   Both the Mayor of Chicago and the Attorney General expressed that they pressed charges against the police officer who shot a teen 16 times a year ago because they were forced by a judge to release the video of the shooting.

   They both expressed concern over 'public safety' due to protests.  Funny they NEVER expressed concern over 'public safety' due to a violent cop being on the streets. In fact, they continued to give him full pay for over a year after he killed the teen.

Golf Cart vs. metal pole in Valley Springs

    November 27, 2015 at 4 PM:  A golf cart has reportedly hit a metal pole at Hwy 26 and Vista Del Lago in Valley Springs.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Not sure why a golf cart was on the roadway. CHP is investigating. This was first reported by a witness as in Double Springs mistakenly.

Traffic collision at Big Meadow on Hwy 4

   November 27, 2015 at 12:55 PM:  At traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 4 at Big Meadow Campground in Ebbetts Pass.

   Apparently an off-duty fireman was involved. An ambulance and tow truck are en route, along with CHP. Be cautious in that area.

Vandalism reported in Arnold

   On November 26, 2015 around 9 PM the Calaveras Sheriff arrested a man on Grenoble Drive in Arnold for alleged Intoxication and for Vandalism.

   The Sheriff's Office had received two calls on Grenoble for alleged intoxication by a family member and for vandalism of a nearby residence.

Illegal shooting in Calaveras Supervisor District 3

   On November 26, 2015 illegal shooting was reported by residents on Medinah in Arnold around 7:45 PM; by a resident on Evergreen Drive and Manzanita Drive in Arnold around 7:50 PM; by a resident on Castlewood Lane, and another resident on St. Moritz and Aspen Way in Arnold around 7:55 PM; a resident on Williams Street in Murphys around 8:20 PM; residents on Rocky Hill Road, on Bret Harte Drive and on Surrey Court in Murphys around 8:25 PM.

   No report was taken on these incidents by the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

Traffic hazard at Milton and Hunt Roads

   There is some type of traffic hazard at Milton Road and Hunt Road in the Milton area.

   CHP is en route. It isn't clear if it's an animal or other type of hazard, so be cautious if driving in that direction.

Can you be a Catholic and a Republican?? The Pope says...

   In the recent past, it was difficult to tell apart a Republican from a Catholic, due to the Pope's stand on what appears to be anti women's rights.

   Now, though, the Pope says "it would be catastrophic to end talks around the world on climate change and fossil fuels."  Republicans deny it...are they leaving the church or the party????

Calaveras Grown wants money to help with fire repair

   All the talk about how wonderful it was that Calaveras Grown wanted to help the private landowners save what is left of the soil on their land has now ended. Was CCWD surprised to hear their presentation?

   A representative for the group came to the Calaveras County Water District Board meeting to present their plans.  Problem was that this was not out of the goodness of their hearts after all.  They want to be paid, and WELL PAID, to provide this service.

"All My Children" star dies

   David Canary, most famous for playing twin brothers Adam and Stuart Chandler in the daytime soap opera "All My Children", has died.

   Canary won Emmy's for his portrayal of the soft-hearted and the mean spirited Chandler brothers for many years. He was 77.

Cows out in La Grange

   November 26, 2015 at 10 AM;  A couple of cows are out on the roadway at Red Hills Road and Hwy 59 in the La Grange area.

   CHP is locating the owner. Be cautious if in that area.

2nd collsiion in Jamestown--Roadways icy!!

   November 26, 2015 at 8:55 AM:  A traffic collision on Hwy 120 at New Priest Grade has been reported, where a vehicle slid into an embankment.

   No injuries were indicated in this collision. A tow truck has been dispatched. Be extra cautious on the roadway due to very icy conditions.

Man killed in Hwy 49 crash

   Around 1:30 AM the morning of November 24, 2014 Forrest Garrison ran off Hwy 49 near El Dorado, and hit several objects, causing the Mercedes he was driving to roll over.

   Mr. Garrison was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash. 

Traffic collision in Jamestown

    UPDATE:  The vehicle apparently skidded off the roadway. The driver is refusing medical treatment for a wrist injury.

Chains required in Arnold

   November 25, 2015 at 6 AM:  Caltrans has issued chain requirements on vehicles without 4 wheel drive on Hwy 4 in Arnold.

  The storm is mostly passed, but some snow will be seen in the mountains, so be cautious if headed that way.

Red Cross Shelter in Mountain Ranch

   Around 5 PM last night, November 24, 2015 it was decided to open an overnight shelter at the Mountain Ranch Community Center. There wasn't much notice given to the public.

   It opened at 6 PM and was run by the Red Cross.  We aren't sure how long it will stay open, or if it will be open on Thanksgiving Day for those still living in tents in the Butte Fire area.

   How there can be any taxes assessed at all on property destroyed by the Butte Fire is beyond us, but Calaveras Assessor Leslie Davis has sent out a notice to those owners who MAY qualify to have their taxes deferred while the property is reassessed.

Car vs. tree in Waterloo area

   November 24, 2015 at 11:25 AM:  A Nissan reportedly hit a tree at Confer Road and Baker Road in the Waterloo area outside Stockton.

Overturned vehicle in Tracy

   November 24, 2015 at 11:20 AM:  A vehicle has reportedly overturned on Hwy 4 and Tracy Boulevard in the Tracy area.

   The vehicle is not blocking the roadway, but an ambulance is responding to the scene, so use extra caution if in the area.

Man throwing woman from car in Copperopolis

   November 24, 2015 at 11:15 AM:  CHP is responding to the scene of a vehicle in Copperopolis on Hwy 4 near Obyrnes Ferry Road, where a man is reportedly trying to throw a woman out of a vehicle.

   Use extra caution if in the area. Calaveras Sheriff's deputies have also been alerted.

   Recently we were told that there is an old couple frequenting businesses, but never buying anything in the Ebbetts Pass area; acting very suspiciously.

Burglary in Rancho Calaveras

  On November 23, 2015 at burglary was reported at a residence on Stagecoach Drive in Rancho Calaveras.

  Access appeared to be through a window. The resident is in the process of moving. The Calaveras Sheriff took a report of the incident.

Vehicle overturned in Tracy

   November 24, 2015 at 8 AM:  A vehicle has overturned into a ditch on Hwy 4 at the Old River in the Tracy area.

   Emergency personnel, including an ambulance, are en route to the scene.

  

Caltrans closes Hwy 89

   November 24, 2015 at 6:20 AM:  Caltrans has closed Monitor Pass (Hwy 89) ahead of the storm that is expected to bring snow to the Sierras later today.

   If you have to go into the higher elevations, carry chains.

Ebbetts Pass officially closed for winter

   Caltrans has announced that as of today November 23, 2015 Hwy 4 is officially closed for the winter for the safety of motorists.

   It will not be reopened until conditions warrant, usually around Memorial Day Weekend.

BMW vs. motorcycle

   November 23, 2015 at 3:15 PM:  A BMW and a motorcycle collided at Valpico Road and Corral Hollow Road in Tracy.

   CHP is en route to the scene. Use extra caution if in that area.

Traffic collision in Escalon

   November 23, 2015 at 3 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Carrolton Road and Lone Tree Road in Escalon.

    At least one person was transported to a hospital. Two tow trucks were dispatched to the scene.

Caltrans work on Hwy 120 tonight

   Caltrans wants to remind everyone that pavement work will be done on Hwy 120 tonight at 8 PM, from the Stanislaus/San Joaquin County line to the Stanislaus River.

   Be prepared that one-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 PM throught 6 AM on November 24, 2015. 15 minute delays are expected.

Grass Fire in Copperopolis

   UPDATE:  The fire was quickly extinguished.

CHP Maximum Enforcement Period over Holidays

   CHY is announcing that they are enforcing Maximum Enforcement Periods over the holidays, starting with Thanksgiving weekend.

  They will be watching for DUI's and other violations which cause collisions. Traffic death increased 36% in 2014 over the 2013 total.  Drive carefully and if you drive, don't drink.

Bike riders causing disturbance in Valley Springs

  On November 22, 2015 a driver of a white truck called the Calaveras Sheriff to report bicyclers riding on the yellow lines, and that they were making her feel threatened after a verbal confrontation.

  Cyclists often get into verbal confrontations with drivers, either because they feel they should have the whole roadway or because a driver yells at them. It is a dangerous situation mostly for the bicyclists.

"Neighbors from Hell" throw garbage over property line

   On November 22, 2015 a resident on Meredith Lane in Railroad Flat reported to the Calaveras Sheriff that a neighbor is apparently throwing their garbage over onto their property.

   Do you or have disturbed "neighbors from hell" like these?  And you thought you were the only ones? Sounds so familiar!

Load of bread on Hwy 99

   November 23, 2015 at 9:15 AM:  A load of bread has reportedly been dropped on Hwy 99 northbound at the Morada exit in the slow lane.

Only 3 Northern White Rhinos left in the world

   One of the few NorthernWhite Rhinos left in the world had to be euthanized at the San Diego Zoo at age 41.

   A female, this lowers the number still existing at 3.
 

Pfizer buying Allergen for $160 billion

  We just heard this morning that Pfizer, the maker of Viagra and Allergan, maker of Botox, will combine and will easily be the largest drugmaker in the world.

   Pfizer is paying $160 billion for Allergan, buy what is called the inversion of buying an overseas company, will lower their taxes.

Angels Camp City Council cancels meeting

   We just received a notice from Angels Camp City Clerk Mary Kelly that "due to the shortened workweek because of the Thanksgiving holidays and there being no immediate action items for Counciln the City council meeting scheduled for December 1, 2015 has been cancelled."

   The National Weather Service tells us to be ready for a cold front beginning early Tuesday morning, with rain and snow in the mix.

   November 22, 2015 at 10:55 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at South Fork Road and Confidence South Fork Road in Twain Harte.

   November 22, 2015 at 10:25 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 49 and Hwy 88 in Martell.

   November 22, 2015 at 10:20 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported just off Hwy 4 between Littlejohn and Reeds Turnpike in Copperopolis.

   Emergency personnel are responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.
 Minor injuries have been indicated.

   On November 21, 2015 illegal shooting was reported at around 12:05 AM on Lakewood Drive and Lakemont Drive in Arnold, around 7:15 AM on Blair Drive in Valley Springs, around 4:30 PM on Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat, around 5:55 PM on Lake View Court and Lakemont Drive in Arnold, around 6:10 PM on Lakemont Drive in Arnold and at Clark and Persall in Mokelumne Hill and on Valley View Drive in Arnold.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report on these incidents.

Burglary in Campo Seco

   On November 21, 2015 a burglary was reported by a resident on Old Fogie Way in Campo Seco.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report.

Four injured in Hwy 108 crash

   November 21, 2015 at 3:40 PM:  A traffic collision on Hwy 108 and Kennedy Meadows has injured at least 4 and taken out a stop sign.

   Kennedy Meadows is blocked with emergency personnel. Avoid the area until CHP can clear the roadway.

Traffic collision in Lodi

   November 21, 2015 at 3:30 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 12 and Alpine Road in Lodi.

   CHP is en route to the scene. It isn't blocking the roadway, per a witness.

Vehicle rollover in Mokelumne Hill

   UPDATE:  Reportedly a doctor is at the scene. One person is trapped inside the vehicle.

Grand Theft in Mountain Ranch

   On November 20, 2015 a resident on Lucky Jim Mine Road in Mountain Ranch reported a Grand Theft from the property.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report on the incident.

Suspicious person not Spellman

   On November 21, 2015 a man riding a bicycle on Hwy 12 at Evans in Valley Springs was reported as suspicious.

   Wearing a green army jacket, a hat and with a beard and carrying a knife. It was reportedly NOT Darren Spellman trying to get his Supervisor job back.

Power lines down in Mi-Wuk Village

   UPDATE:  A tree did fall into the power lines; a small fire has started. Power is knocked out to some residents.

First degree burglary in Valley Springs

   On November 20, 2015 at around 2:35 AM Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Jessica James Brauer (23) of Mountain Ranch on O'Reilly Street in Valley Springs.

   A possible burglary had been reported

Theft from Avery Dump

  November 21, 2015 at 10 AM:  Apparently another theft has taken place at the Avery Dump on Segale Road during the night.

   A deputy was called out to take a report on missing equipment. The case #3116, we believe.   They cut through the fence, and this is a repeated occurrence.

Submerged car in Whiskey Slough

   UPDATE at 10:45 AM:  A diver has not been located to retrieve the vehicle yet.

Calaveras Supervisors meet on Butte Fire

   On November 24, 2015 the Calaveras Supervisors will meet to discuss the Butte Fire recovery. Departments are scheduled to report to the taxpayers.

   Also, in Closed Session, they are negotiating big pay raises for themselves and employees and approving payments to landowners around the Stagecoach Road Bridge project.

   November 20, 2015 at 4:15 PM:  Cattle have been reported on Dogtown Road in Angels Camp.

   Authorities are attempting to locate the owner. Be extra cautious in the area.

   On November 19, 2015 a resident on High Country Road in San Andreas reported some of their chickens are missing.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took no report on the incident.

Collision on Hwy 49

   November 20, 2015 at 2:30 PM:  A solo vehicle collision has been reported on Hwy 49 in Carson Hill.

   Apparently the vehicle is smoking and the driver is trapped inside.  CHP and an ambulance are en route.

Vehicle hits trees in Waterloo area

   November 20, 2015 at 6:30 AM:  A car left Hwy 88 and hit some trees near Baker Road in the Waterloo area.

   An ambulance and CHP are en route to the scene. Use extra caution if headed that way.

Traffic collision in Modesto

   UPDATE:  One person has been transported to Doctors Medical Center. CHP is now working to reopen the roadway.

Radical Extremist Christian Terrorists in US

   After the terrorist attack in Paris, there has been a lot of talk about blocking any immigrants from the middle east by Republican Presidential candidates, for fear of bringing in radical extremist Muslims. HUH???

   The US already has more than our share of Radical Extremists, and Terrorists. They are Radical Extremist Christian Terrorists, and some live right here in Calaveras County. We've seen their threats!!  These are the ones we should fear!!

Injured deer on Tuolumne Road

   November 20, 2015 at 6 AM:  An injured deer has been reported on Tuolumne Road at Morris Grade in Tuolumne.

   Use extra caution if in that area until CHP can arrive on scene.

Doug Flutie's parents die within an hour of each other

   Former NFL player and star Doug Flutie lost his father to a heart attack yesterday. He hadn't been well for some time.

   Then about an hour later, his mother had a sudden heart attack and passed away. Our condolences go out to the family for the tragic double loss.

Head-on collision in Lockeford area

   UPDATE:  Minor injuries were incurred in this collision.

Carly Simon says Warren Beatty one of her "You're so Vain" guys'

   The popular song "You're so Vain", sung by Carly Simon, became a little more revealing yesterday, When Simon admitted who the song was about.

   In an interview she admitted that the song was at least partially about her relationship with Warren Beatty.  No comment from Beatty yet.

Man on Obyrnes Ferry Road at prison

   At around 3:15 AM on November 20, 2015 a man was reported on Obyrnes Ferry Road in front of the prison, trying to flag down cars.

   CHP was dispatched to the scene, where a green car was apparently parked nearby. It isn't yet known what was going on, but the man was creating a traffic hazard in the middle of the roadway.

Angels Camp Police need your help

   Since the passing of the K-9 Officer Kain recently, the Angels Camp Police Department finds itself in need of a new trained police dog. Each trained dog costs around $10,000.

   November 19, 2015 at 2:55 PM:  A school bus, apparently broken down is blocking Burson Road and Carol Lane in Rancho Calaveras.

   The bus appears to be abandoned, per CHP.  Be extra cautious if in that area.

Dead body found on American River Parkway trail

  Yet another dead body has been found on the American River Parkway trail near a Carmichael park.

   Authorities are attempting to identify the body and investigate the cause of death.

Car vs. bicycle in Ceres

   November 19, 2015 at 2:20 PM:  A car and a bicycle have collided on Keyes Road and Central Avenue in Ceres.

Stockton girl wants no presents

   Alexandra Salazar celebrated her birthday the other day and told everyone she wanted no presents.

   Instead, she asked for donations to the Stockton Animal Shelter.  She receive $300 to turn over to the animal welfare group towards buying a new x-ray machine.

   Jared Fogel, who has admitted to traveling to NYC for sex with minors, among other pornographic charges, has been sentenced to prison.

Calaveras Community Fund gives to organizations--not people!!

   Sadly, we have been made aware that due to Calaveras County's Mary Sawicki's recommendations, the Calaveras Community Fund will not be giving any money to the Butte Fire victims.

Overturned vehicle in Columbia

   November 18, 2015 at 2:45 PM:  An overturned vehicle has been reported on Sawmill Flat Road in Columbia.

   Use caution as the roadway is partially blocked and the vehicle is leaking fluid. This is near Columbia College. No injuries have been indicated.

   We have heard that El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Meyer has now resigned from that position after being arrested again with an alleged .19 alcohol level. Details of the payout for his resignation have not been revealed.

   On November 17, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff was called to a disturbance on Feather Drive in Copperopolis, where Kevin's Tree Service was allegedly dropping trees on a person's property without permission.

   Calaveras Friends of the Fair will meet on November 18, 2015 at 6 PM at Camps Restaurant in Angels Camp.

Sonora Pass Closed

   We just received notification from Caltrans that due to the accumulation of snow on Hwy 108 that Sonora Pass is now closed at Kennedy Meadows.

   CHP has just issued an official report of the cement truck that rolled over on Hwy 49 near the Melones Bridge.

   November 16, 2015 at 8:25 AM:  A Toyota pickup has reportedly overturned at Hwy 49 and Main Street in Jamestown.

Chains required on Hwy 4

   November 16, 2015 at 5 AM:  Caltrans is requiring chains on all vehicles without 4 wheel drive on Hwy 4 at Arnold this morning.

   While the storm has passed, road conditions in the mountains remain icy and expect travel to be slow since speeds are only 35 MPH in chain required areas.

Honda spins out in Twain Harte

   November 15, 2015 at 3:20 PM:  A Honda has reportedly spun out and run off Hwy 108 near Twain Harte Drive in Twain Harte.

   A man, woman and four children were in the vehicle. An ambulance is responding to the scene.

Major Injuries in Pioneer crash

   November 15, 2015 at 3:15 PM:  A car reportedly ran off Hwy 88 at Omo Ranch Road in Pioneer and hit a tree, causing major injuries to at least one of three occupants.

    CHP, an ambulance and other emergency responders are at the scene. Use extra caution in that area.

Flooding on Hwy 4

   November 15, 2015 at 11 AM:  Flooding has been reported at Hwy 4 and Hillcrest Avenue in Hathaway Pines.

   Use caution if in that area until road crews can reach the scene.

Felony Assault charges in West Point

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office they arrested Jack Steven Blevins (19) of West Point on November 14, 2015 at his residence on Blue Mountain Road.

   Per the report, Blevins was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Assault with a Deadly Weapon/not a firearm, Cruelty to elder dependent with possible Great bodily harm or death, and Injuring Power Lines, all felonies, and for Willful Cruelty to a Child, a misdemeanor.

Snowing in Arnold

It started to snow at just about 10:10 AM in Arnold (4000').
One person said the Chapel in the Pines church bells

Disturbance at Poker Flat Homeowners Association meeting

   On November 13, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office was called out due to a disturbance at the Poker Flat Homeowners Association meeting on Poker Flat Road in Copperopolis.

   We don't have details of this disturbance, but Poker Flat has had some ongoing issues with docks among other problems. The Calaveras Sheriff took no report.

Copperopolis man arrested for attempted murder

   On November 14, 2015 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested John Mark Merritt (60) at his residence on Iroquois Circle in Copperopolis.

   Merritt was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Attempted Murder. An investigation continues.

Amador County LAFCo to meet about Jackson Rancheria

   At the November 19, 2015 Amador County Local Agency Formation Commission meeting in Jackson, the agenda has a public hearing regarding Jackson Rancheria.

   The meeting begins at 6 PM and the purpose is the reorganization of the Jackson Rancheria to move to be under the City of Jackson.

Black ice on Hwy 26 causes collision

   November 14, 2015 at 8:50 AM:  An overturned SUV on Hwy 26 at Barney Way in West Point has been reportedly caused by black ice on the roadway.

   Minor injuries have been indicated in this incident. The vehicle is partially blocking the roadway. Use caution if headed that way.

Semi and Honda Civic collide in Acampo

   November 14, 2015 at 8:40 AM:  A 48' semi truck with two flat bed trailers and a Honda Civic collided on Hwy 99 southbound at Collier Road in Acampo.

   The big rig driver has pulled off and has gone back to the Civic. CHP is en route. No injuries have been reported.  Be careful in that area.

Injured deer on Hwy 120

   November 14, 2015 at 8:35 AM:  An injured deer has been reported on Hwy 120 at Golden Arrow Drive in Groveland.

Cement truck rollover on Hwy 49

Cal Fire increasing burn hours allowed

   Cal Fire has just issued a press release stating that the nighttime burn hours are now increased to all hours with a valid permit and on allowed burn days.

Major injury collision on Hwy 120

   November 12, 2015 at 2:45 PM:  A collision has been reported on Hwy 120 at Main Street in Manteca, with one vehicle going over the embankment.

   November 12, 2015 at 1:15 PM:  A delivery driver hit the Sunny Acres Nut Company sign on Sunny Acres Drive in Turlock and fled the scene.

Placerville murders inheritance related??

   A Placerville man is in jail alleged to have killed his mother and brother on Rocky Ridge Road after an argument over who would inherit their mother's estate.

   The wife of one of the brothers went to the home from Sacramento looking for her husband and found her husband's brother with a gun, ran and called the Sheriff.

Explosions reported in Wilseyville

  On November 11, 2015 a little after 11 PM, two residents in Wilseyville reported loud explosions that shook their houses on June Ave. and Paddock Lane.

   They requested contact by a deputy, but the Calaveras Sheriff's Office took no report.
