Bicyclist killed on Farmington Road

  Early in the morning of January 29, 2016 a bicyclist was reported dead at the scene of an apparent vehicle hit and run on Farmington Road near Hwy 99 in Stockton.

   Authorities are investigating the case, and are asking if there are any possible witnesses.

Overturned car on Obyrnes Ferry Road

  January 29, 2016 at 10 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Obyrnes Ferry Road, near the bridge on the Tuolumne County side.

    One vehicle has overturned and is blocking the roadway. No injuries have been indicated.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office is warning Calaveras County residents, especially those in the Butte Fire area, that tomorrow, January 29, 2016 could be a day of Flash Flood Warnings.

   Use caution if traveling in the burned areas to avoid being subjected to a flash flood.

Dog at Hwy 26 in Rancho Calaveras

   January 27, 2016 at 9 AM:  A large dog was reported at Hwy 26 and Dove Creek Lane in Rancho Calaveras that appeared injured.

   CHP did not find an injury, but transported the dog to Animal Services in San Andreas.  If you are missing your dog, go to the Calaveras County pound.

Threat with tire iron after Hit and Run?

   January 26, 2016 at 1:30 PM:  A hit and run was reported on Hwy 108 and Kennedy Road in Oakdale when a vehicle was sideswiped.

   Finally both vehicles stopped on Kennedy Road and the suspect apparently got out of his vehicle with a tire iron, but then laid it down. CHP is at the scene.

Volunteer deputies help with Copper Run

     On January 23, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff Volunteer deputies provided traffic control during the Annual Copper run.

   This is the annual fundraising event for the Copperopolis Fire Department. There was a good turnout and the weather was cool and clear.

   The Denver Broncos defense held on to win the game against the Patriots and head for Santa Clara and the SuperBowl.

   Peyton Manning, in what may be his final year of play for the NFL, will lead the Broncos against whoever wins the next game.

Mudslide on Murphys Grade Road

   January 24, 2016 at 7:45 AM:  A mud and rock slide has been reported on the Murphys Grade Road, just outside Angels Camp.

   A county road crew is being dispatched to clean it up, but be careful in that area until it is completed.

Two escape from police, then call police for help

El Dorado County Sheriff
   Two men who were pulled over on Hwy 50 near Kyburz Friday night, ran into the forest, crossing the river to escape capture.

   Early Saturday morning, however, they called the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office for help.  They were freezing to death. Both men suffered from hypothermia and frostbite and were taken to a hospital for treatment, where they were arrested.

    Calaveras Supervisor (Freaky Pastor) Edson has been on a grand slam bullying scheme to clear-cut Calaveras County to give more water to Los Angeles.

Woman booked for 21 misdemeanors

   On January 22, 2016 the Calaveras County Superior Court ordered Angela Rose Lindow (30) of Valley Springs remanded to the Calaveras County Jail.

   Lindow was booked into the jail for 7 separate outstanding Warrants for 21 separate offenses, including alleged Drug Possession, Possession of Switchblade, Resisting arrest, Violation of Probation, etc., all misdemeanors.

Big rig with petroleum stuck on Hwy 88

   January 23, 2016 at 9:40 AM:  A big rig full of petroleum is chained up but can't get up Hwy 88 at Carson Spur due to the roads being icy.

   CHP has called for a big rig tow and Caltrans to sand the roadway. Be extra careful in that area.

Vicki Hollars of Angels Camp

   Vicki Rea Hollars passed peacefully on January 16, 2016, surrounded by family and loved ones at her home in Angels Camp. She was 58.

   Born in San Fernando on October 18, 1957 to Verna & Clee Scott, the family moved to Angels Camp

North HIghlands gone to the DOGS???

   On January 21, 2016 there were two fires reported at homes in the North Highlands area of Sacramento.

   Firemen reported having to save 14 dogs from one house and 17 dogs from the other house (and not puppies).  What we'd like to know is, WHO has to clean up all that dog poop??

New gas station in Burson? 24,000 gallons fuel storage??

   On January 28, 2016 the Calaveras Planning Commission will hold a hearing for the Burson Market, who is requesting to add a gas station to the property on Hwy 12.

   Two 12,000 gallon above ground storage tanks are part of the request. A Conditional Use Permit is required by code, but we understand that Supervisor Edson (this is District 1) wants to waive that, as he and Supervisor Kearney did for the asphalt plant in Rancho Calaveras.

300 Truckloads of shredded wood coming to Butte Fire

   BLM just announced that Mountain West Helicopters of Alpine, Utah got the contract to dump wood shreds on the Butte Fire.

   35,000 cubic yards will be dumped on around 1400 acres in the Jesus Maria Creek fire area.

Butte Fire big rig backs into parked car

   January 21, 2016 at 8:55 AM:  CHP received a report that a Butte Fire clean-up big rig has backed into a parked car at Hawver Road and Jesus Maria Road in Mokelumne Hill.

   The crew of the big rig has now been called into the SDS office. Uh-oh!! No one was hurt in the collision, but safety is supposed to be their number 1 cause.

Starving baby seal found in Hayward

   How it got there no one seems to know for sure, but the Sausalito Marine Mammal Center pickup up this baby seal from a business area in Hayward and hope to save it and return it to the wild.

   At first no one knew what it was, but Hayward Police were called and when they identified it as a baby seal, they notified the rescue center right away.

John Michael Stark, Calaveras Sheriff's deputy

   John Michael Stark passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton, from complications of emphysema. His family was at his bedside.

Sarah Palin: President Obama's fault son arrested

       Sarah Palin addressed the arrest of her son during a speech for Trump yesterday by blaming President Obama for his violence since returning home.  He also was apparently in possession of a gun while intoxicated.

   Apparently, according to Sonora Police, Steven Cook (39) of Jamesstown, choked on a cookie and smashed into the support beam at the hotel. No one was hurt.

Heavy Fog causes big rig rollover

   January 20, 2016 at 9 AM:  CHP has requested Caltrans to post for heavy fog on Hwy 99 after a big rig crashed and rolled over at the Jahant Road onramp in Acampo.

   CHP is at the scene. A heavy duty tow truck is en route to upright the truck. Be careful everywhere in the valley as the fog is heavy.

   On January 19, 2016 Angels Camp Police arrested Randall Patrick Hagaman (30) of Angels Camp in the McDonald's parking lot on Hwy 49.

   Hagaman was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Felony Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse.

Sacramento City website crashes

   Early this morning the City of Sacramento lost its website, a week after "Anonymous" threatened the act if they didn't allow the homeless to camp.

   It is now back up and administrators said it is totally normal again. Was it the "anonymous" people who caused it?

Vehicle rolls on Burson Road

   January 19, 2016 at 2:35 PM:  CHP was called to Mark Twain Hospital where a young driver had been taken by her family after rolling a vehicle on Burson Road near Hwy 12.

   The vehicle landed on its wheels and was driven to another location. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Glen Jordan of White Pines

    Glenwood (Glen) Lorin Jordan of White Pines passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on January 13, 2016. He was 92.

    Glen was born on May 11, 1923 to parents Andrew F. and Kate (Reister) Jordan of Melones.

    On January 11, 2016 Sandra S. Jiminez passed away in Calaveras County. She was 55 years old.

    Glenwood L. Jordan passed away on January 13, 2016 in Calaveras County. He was 92 years old.

"Eagles" Glenn Frey dies

   It was announced earlier today that one of the founding members of the "Eagles" has died. "Hotel California" will be played a lot tonight.

   Glenn Frey was 67 and had been suffering from complications of several conditions. Originally from Indiana, he moved to California, where he fell in with Don Henley and the rest is history.

Carmichael man wins $600,000 in Powerball

   Albert Graham, a 79-year-old retired concrete worker won over $600,000 in the Powerball drawing this week.

   He had all 5 numbers, but was missing the Powerball number. The ticket was bought in the Santa Cruz area.

Burglary in Angels Camp

   On January 15, 2016 a resident on Chestnut Way in Angels Camp reported a burglary to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

   The Sheriff's Office took a report of the incident. No other details are available at this time.

Head-on collision on Hwy 88

   January 16, 2016 at 10:15 AM:  A head-on collision has been reported on Hwy 88 at the Carson Spur, not far from Kirkwood Ski Resort.

   Walmart announced late yesterday that they will be closing 154 stores in the US due to lagging sales at those locations.

   The stock market took another plunge into the depths of despair today, dumping nearly 400 points in addition to the earlier losses this week.

"Grizzly Adams" star dies

   Dan Haggerty, who starred in the "Life and Times of Grizzly Adams" in 1977 has died, we just learned.

   He was 74 and had been suffering from spinal cancer.

49ers hire Chip Kelly

   Less than 11 days after firing Jim Tomsula, the Santa Clara 49ers have hired Chip Kelly to a 4 year contract as coach.
