Friends of the Fair meets at Camps

   On January 20, 2016 the Friends of the Calaveras County Fair will meet at Camps Restaurant in Greenhorn Creek.

   The meeting will begin at 6 PM. The public is invited to attend.

   UPDATE:  This fire was extinguished quickly by the first engine on the scene.

Carmichael man wins $600,000 in Powerball

   Albert Graham, a 79-year-old retired concrete worker won over $600,000 in the Powerball drawing this week.

   He had all 5 numbers, but was missing the Powerball number. The ticket was bought in the Santa Cruz area.

Burglary in Angels Camp

   On January 15, 2016 a resident on Chestnut Way in Angels Camp reported a burglary to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

   The Sheriff's Office took a report of the incident. No other details are available at this time.

Head-on collision on Hwy 88

   January 16, 2016 at 10:15 AM:  A head-on collision has been reported on Hwy 88 at the Carson Spur, not far from Kirkwood Ski Resort.

   An ambulance and other emergency personnel are en route to the scene. Please be extra careful if in that area.

Walmart closing 154 stores

   Walmart announced late yesterday that they will be closing 154 stores in the US due to lagging sales at those locations.

   K-Mart has also announced closing some retail stores.

Kudos to President Obama

   In a prisoner sway earlier today, Iran released 4 people, 2 of them journalists who had been detained last year.

   This is proof that diplomacy; NOT WAR, works and President Obama, along with Secretary of State Kerry and Hillary Clinton get the praise and credit for this.

Union Public Utility District meets in Murphys

   On Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 7 PM the Union Public Utility District meets in Murphys for their regular Board meeting on Main Street.

   On the agenda is 2015 finances, appointment and swearing in of new Director and election of officers for 2016.

Caltrans work on Hwy 26

   Beginning on January 18, 2016 and continuing through January 23, 2016 Caltrans crews have scheduled work on Hwy 26 between Happy Valley Road in Mokelumne Hill and Lower Dorray Road in Glencoe.

   Be careful if you must travel in that area during the week. One-way traffic and 15 minute delays.
