Motorcycle crash in Plymouth

   February 29, 2016 at 3:50 PM:  A motorcycle has reportedly left the road and crashed into the embankment at Latrobe Road and Old Sacramento Road in Plymouth.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Avoid the area if possible while emergency vehicles assist the injured person.

Major injuries in Hwy 108 crash

   According to a CHP report on February 29, 2016 around 6:50 AM Stephanie Bogges (50) of Oakdale was driving a 2003 Toyota eastbound on Hwy 108 near Washington Street in Sonora.

   For unknown reasons the Toyota veered to the right. Bogges veered left and then to the right, the vehicle traveling onto the north shoulder and ran off the roadway.

    The Toyota traveled down a steep embankment and overturned. As the car overturned it struck a tree.

   The Toyota then continued down the embankment where it struck another tree and came to rest.

   Bogges was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries, including a broken arm, cuts and abrasions.

   Per CHP alcohol and or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

   Those who passed away recently are:

    Betty L. Wheeler of San Andreas passed away on February 15, 2016. She was 83, born August 23, 1932 in Missouri.

Shot gun blast in San Andreas

   The Calaveras Sheriff received a report of a double-barreled shot gun blast on Main Street in San Andreas around 3 AM on February 28, 2016.

   The Sheriff's Office took no report of the incident.

Car burglarized in Jenny Lind

   A resident on Scenic Valley Drive in Jenny Lind called the Calaveras Sheriff on February 28, 2016 to report that someone had burglarized their vehicle.

   The Sheriff took a report of the items stolen.

Rollover in Sonora

   February 29, 2016 at 7 AM:  A car has rolled over off Hwy 108 at Lime Kiln Road in Sonora.

   CHP is en route. It isn't yet known if there are injuries.

Newt Gingrich says "Support Trump"

  Newt Gingrich was interviewed on FOX this morning and basically said that the establishment Republicans need to stop their battle against Trump.

  He says its clear that he will win most of the states on Super Tuesday and that will propel him towards the number of delegates necessary to win the nomination. He thinks its time they give up and "Support Trump as Christie has".

Trump asked about David Duke and KKK

    Donald Trump was asked how he feels about David Duke and the KKK in an interview this morning.

   He stated carefully that he doesn't think he has ever met Duke and would have to study any group before making statements about them. He refused to condemn either one even when pressed on the question.

   Three people were allegedly stabbed by KKK members today at a march in Southern California when they protested against the march.

   Several arrests have been made.   How long will it be before the Calaveras KKK Project we've heard so much about begins its horrid events?

Hillary Clinton takes South Carolina

  Not surprisingly, Hillary Clinton won the South Carolina primary vote tonight.

   Three days til Super Tuesday primaries March 1, 2016. 11 states decide which candidates for Democrat and Republican president the voters want.

Traffic collision on Hwy 26

   February 27, 2016 at 5:15 PM:  A green SUV has reportedly left Hwy 26 and crashed into a fence about 5 miles from Hogan Dam Road near Valley Springs.

   The car is now out in the field. Two CHP units are en route to the scene. Use extra caution in that area until cleared.  An ambulance is also responding.
  

Dorrington woman arrested for alleged Assault

   On February 26, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Nanette Jean Dashiell (61) of Dorrington at her residence on Pawnee Drive.

   Dashiell was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Not a Firearm.

Angels Camp PD arrests Sonora woman

   On February 26, 2016 the Angels Camp Police Department arrested Priscilla Ann Heeter (27) of Sonora at the Angels Camp City limits.

    Heeter was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged felony Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse.

Traffic collision in Pine Grove

   February 27, 2016 at 9:25 AM:  Fire and CHP are at the scene of a traffic collision at Hwy 88 and Irishtown Road in the Pine Grove area.

   An ambulance is en route to the scene. Use caution if headed that way.

   The word dominion in most instances refers to supremacy, power over or control of a certain population, religion, etc.

   We often see the word dominion used in religious sects with views of white supremacy here in the US.

Semi takes out 100' of fence in Acampo

    February 27, 2016 at 8:45 AM:  CHP reports that 100' of fence on Hwy 99 at Woodbridge Road is down possible related to a hit and run that was just reported at that location in Acampo.

   Caltrans is being notified of the damage to the fence. A vehicle reported that a semi cut them off, striking them at that same location. Two CHP are at the scene.

CHP arrests San Andreas man

   On February 25, 2016 CHP arrested Gary Lee Holmes (27) of San Andreas on Hwy 26 in Rancho Calaveras.

    Holmes was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Possession, Manufacturing or Selling of a Dangerous Weapon, a felony and for DUI of any drug.

Arrest at Murphys Hotel

  According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office on February 25, 2016 Jennifer Don Priest (37) of Arnold was arrested at the Murphys Hotel in Murphys.

   Priest was booked for alleged Felony Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse.

Kids thought there would be big fist fight!

   There was no question that control was lost by Blitzer during the Republican debate last night.

   We have heard that children were glued to the set, thinking with all the yelling that there would be a big fist fight. What will they grow up thinking about politics??

   New Jersey governor Chris Christie has just endorsed Donald Trump for President.

   After the debacle that was last night's debate for Republicans, it's not surprising.

Crash causes road closure in Ceres

   February 26, 2016 at 8:15 AM:  An overturned car is causing a telephone pole to lean at Jennings Road and Keyes Road in Ceres.

   Jennings Road is closed to traffic. Minor injuries have been reported. A tow truck is en route to the scene. Be cautious if in the area.

Breaking News: Arnold man missing

      There is a missing man in Arnold. He is 79 year old Don Peterson, who was last seen on the Rim Trail wearing a red baseball cap, white t-shirt and jeans.

    He is 5'11" tall and around 175 pounds. Don has a small tan dog named Danny with him.

   If you have any information about Don or if you can help trying to locate him, please call 911 or the Calaveras Sheriff at 754-6500.

Betty Lou Bruce of Angels Camp

   Betty Lou Bruce - March 24, 1923 to February 21, 2016

   Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92 in Angels Camp with family by her side.

District 4 seat would be well-served by Sherri Smith

   Sherri Smith, who owns the restaurant at Greenhorn Creek, would be a good choice for Calaveras Supervisor of District 4 now that Debbie Ponte is not running for re-election.

   Her hard working business ethic and love of the community will serve the residents well.  There is no better representative to vote for.

   You see, Lake Tulloch for years has been called the "Lake Toilet" due to sewage, especially by Calaveras County employees. If they don't FLUSH it what will happen???

Call for end to Daylight Savings Time

   One state Senator in California is introducing a bill to end Daylight Savings time so that California can remain Standard time year round.

   That would be a big relief to many and it is not seen as important as it once was, to get another hour on the clock at the end of the day, even for part of the year.

VP Joe Biden goes to the Oscars

  It seems that VP Joe Biden will be attending the Oscars in Los Angeles with his wife Jill Sunday night.

   Biden will be introducing Lady Gaga, who will perform "Until it Happens to You".

   For years now the Republican hierarchy has been catering to the Tea Party bunch in order to get their votes. He won easily in Nevada on Tuesday night.

Streaking in Rancho Calaveras

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office was notified on February 24, 2016 around 7:55 PM that teenagers were streaking at Pardini Place and Baldwin Street in Rancho Calaveras.

   No report was taken by the Sheriff's Office.

Angels Camp Police get new K-9 officer

   Angels Camp Police have received a new K-9 officer after having several dogs evaluated.  This one, Thor, comes from Stockton PD and cost $4000.

   Thor is 4 1/2 years old and is a Dutch Shepherd. He is assigned to Sgt. Poortinga. He was paid for and donated by the K-9 Association.

Blue car through fence in Jenny Lind

   February 25, 2016 at 8 AM:  A blue car has left Milton Road and gone through a fence in the Jenny Lind area.

    No injuries were indicated but a tow truck is required for the car.

Brush fire in Malibu

  A brush fire apparently started around 3 AM on February 25, 2016 and has grown to 20 acres in Malibu.

   This is located near the Pacific Coast Hwy and very expensive homes in that area.

Traffic collision in Burson

   February 25, 2016 at 5 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 12 and Southworth Drive in Burson.

   CHP is en route to the scene. It isn't yet known if there are injuries. Be careful if in that area.

US Forest Service continues livestock grazing

   In a press release by the US Forest Service, livestock grazing will be continued to be allowed in the Stanislaus National Forest.

   An environmental impact report on several areas was conducted and apparently did not indicate a need to curtail the policy that has been in place since before 1897.

Calaveras Council of Government (COG) gets $10 million?

   The Calaveras Council of Governments (COG) sent out a press release that they have been allotted $10 million for the Wagon Trail project, realigning dangerous Hwy 4 between Copperopolis and Angels Camp.

    In the same release, however, it states that the state is cutting back and it seems unclear if they could still lose that money or a portion of it.  COG's next meeting is March 2, 2016 at 5 PM in San Andreas.

Firefighter started 80 acre fire

   Benjamin Cunha (33), an ex Diamond Springs firefighter, has plead guilty to starting the 80 acre Mine Fire in 2007.

   He only got sentenced to 5 years in prison for his crime. His attorney says he was trying to get overtime pay. The fire caused $7 million in damage, but he was only ordered to pay $247,000 in restitution.

Watch your possessions: Thieves busy in District 3

   In case you weren't already aware of it, District 3 of Calaveras County, from Murphys to the Alpine County line is so full of thieves, you have to protect your possessions carefully.  Be sure to watch for close neighbors to be the thieves; especially if they don't work.

   In Murphys on February 23, 2016 a resident reported that his chain saw was stolen. Sadly,  Supervisor Oliveira has done nothing to protect us, either from thieves, druggies or violent racist thugs with guns.

  ...that he has brought a manufacturing plant to Calaveras County and that it will provide many jobs.

   He says they make tools for jet airplanes apparently, and we assume he is building it in District 3.  We will be following up on this to see if it's true or not.

Calaveras Community Foundation adds Board Member

      The Calaveras Community Foundation welcomed a new Board Member this month to their group.

   Liz Gimble, who lives in Valley Springs, is an experienced grant-writer sales and project coordination.

Travis Lee Key of San Andreas

   Travis was born on September 8, 1942 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Travis W. and Wilma J. (Daniel) Key.     He died on Friday February 22, 2016 in San Andreas.

   February 24, 2016 at 10:10 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 99 and Jack Tone Road in Ripon.

   Vehicles are connected and will need to be separated before towing. Injuries have not yet been indicated. Be careful if in that area.

   CHP reports that on February 23, 2016 around 1:50 AM that Michelle Pingree was driving her 1995 Honda Del Sol southbound on Hwy 49 south

   If anything should be banned in the US it's alcohol. It is a DRUG that affects the mind by distorting the senses and physically destroys the liver.

   And since we know that prohibition of alcohol doesn't work, why would we even consider banning cannabis?  Think about it!

Wagon Trail Hwy 4 Project requests $6.6 million for 2016

   At the Calaveras Council of Government (COG) meeting on February 24, 2016 at 6 PM they will vote on approval of the $6.6 million for the Wagon Trail/Hwy 4 project between Copperopolis and Angels Camp.

   The meeting will be held in the multi-purpose room at Bret Harte High School. The funds requested are for design, right-of-way purchase and construction of the new road. Due to cutbacks at the state level, COG has cut back on their requests.

County car involved in Angels Camp collision

   February 22, 2016 at 1:30 PM :  A traffic collision was reported at Hwy 4 and Murphys Grade Road in Angels Camp.

   No injuries were indicated. Be cautious if in the area until cleared.

Three car crash outside Martell

   February 22, 2016 at 1:20 PM:  A three car crash has been reported at Ridge Road and Hwy 88, just outside Martell.

  A tow truck has been dispatched but no injuries have been indicated.

Peter Mondavi dies

   After leading his winery through half a century of changes, Peter Mondavi has died at the age of 101.

   Peter even battled his own brother Robert Mondavi for control of Charles Krug. His parents had purchased the land in 1943.

Councilperson Amanda Folendorf BLOCKS ban on marijuana in Angels Camp

   If it weren't for City Council person Amanda Folendorf, those old men Mayor Kulm and Bert Sobon, led by the City Attorney and Administrator (who were obviously biased) on the Angels Camp City Council would have passed a ban on medical marijuana grows in the City limits.

   The religious wackos came out and harassed the council and fortunately Folendorf used calm reason and convinced the rest of the council to wait and see what the State of California puts in place.  Thank you Amanda!! 

Traffic collision in Copperopolis

   According to CHP on February 19, 2016 around 4:15 PM Jessica Pilson (27) of Copperopolis was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry on Hwy 4 east of Obyrnes Ferry Road at an approximated speed of 60-65 MPH.

Angels Camp man arrested

   On February 20, 2016 Angels Camp Police arrested James Fletcher Hagaman, Jr. or Angels Camp at the McDonald's on Hwy 49.

   Hagaman was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Obstructing officers, a felony and for Violating a Court Order to Prevent Domestic Violence, Possession of a Narcotic Controlled Substance, Controlled Substance Paraphernalia and Concealing Evidence, all misdemeanors.

Watch for cow on Hwy 108

   February 22, 2016 at 8 AM:  Watch carefully for a cow that has been reported out on Hwy 108 near Tulloch Dam Road in Jamestown.

Calaveras Supervisors want MORE fees

  On Tuesday February 23, 2016 the Calaveras Supervisors will meet at 9 AM to discuss implementing MORE fire mitigation fees in Calaveras County

   The County is also raising fees on permits, per Planning Director Maurer.

     Before the regular meeting they are holding Closed Sessions for lawsuits against Ross Thornton as well as others.

Intoxicated person reported in Arnold

   On February 20, 2016 between 4:30 and 5:30 PM two reports were received by the Calaveras Sheriff of a confrontational, possibly intoxicated individual, both on Hwy 4 and at Pine and 5th Green Road in Arnold.

   No report was taken by the Calaveras Sheriff.

  

Illegal shooting reported in Arnold

   On February 20, 2016 around 4:20 AM a resident on Moran Road in Arnold reported hearing shots fired.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report of the incident.

Black cow at Stevenot Bridge

  UPDATE:  Now the black cow is reported near Red Hill Road on Hwy 49.

Collision in Vallecito

   February 21, 2016 at 7 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported at Hwy 4 and Angels Road in Vallecito.

   A white Toyota has run off the roadway. It isn't yet known if there are injuries. Be extra careful if headed that way.

Clinton and Trump win -- Bush drops out!

   In last nights primaries, Clinton pulled out the win in Nevada, Trump won South Carolina and Bush dropped out.

   Apparently Harry Reid helped Hillary by getting the Culinary Union behind her, Trump easily won without any help and Jeb Bush had spent all of his PAC's money and had to go home.

US Forest Service burning in Tuolumne County

   The US Forest Service has announced that they are doing prescribed burns in the Stanislaus National Forest around the Mi-Wok Ranger District.

   Smoke may be visible from Hwy 108. The burn begins on February 22, 2016 and will continue for several days.

District Attorney Barbara Yook harshly criticized in Calaveras County

    It seems that the current Calaveras County District Attorney Yook has been criticized from many areas in Calaveras County due to poor judgment, bias, favoritism, and abuse to women victims.

   She is running again to be Calaveras County District Attorney for another 4 years. Will anything change now that her husbands close friend Gary Kuntz has died.  Sadly, her severe conflict of interest affected her judgment in many cases in the past.

Dog hit by car in Burson

   On February 20, 2016 a dog was hit and reportedly injured by a car in the Ospital Road area of Burson.

   A Calaveras Sheriff's deputy is taking the dog to the Angels Camp Vet where they have a 24 hour emergency care facility because Animal Services is apparently not available.

   On February 22, 2016 at 7 PM the Jackson (Amador County) City Council will hold their regular meeting on Broadway in Jackson.

   Betty Lucille (Rhodes) Wheeler was born on August 23, 1932 in Marquand, Missouri to David Ross Rhodes and Besssie Leila (Smith) Rhodes, the youngest of 10 siblings.

Moke Hill Music coming to Bret Harte

   On February 28, 2016 the Calaveras Arts Council will present the Moke Hill Music Festival Ensemble at the Bret Harte Theater in Angels Camp.

    The performance will be from 3 PM to 5 PM and adult tickets are $25 and children are $10.

San Andreas man arrested twice in one day: UPDATE

Car runs off roadway in Plymouth

   February 19, 2016 at 1:25 PM:  A car reportedly has run off Latrobe Road near Lorentz Road in the Plymouth area.

Right Wing Church threatens Angels Camp City Council???

   We have been told that a fundamentalist right wing extremist church has riled up its members to threaten the Angels Camp City Council members about marijuana.

   Apparently after their Council meeting where they agreed to accept the same regulations for marijuana as the County, those church members threatened to campaign and vote against them at their next election if they allow pot.  Now they are terrified and may not even allow a dispensary!!

South Carolinians don't mind negative politics

   When one resident and voter  in South Carolina was asked by a reporter if it upsets them at so much negative and insulting politics, the response was very telling.

   He said "We're the state that started NASCAR and we don't go to the races to watch the race; we want to see the crashes!"

Author Harper Lee dies

   Harper Lee, who wrote "To Kill a Mockingbird", which was made into an academy away winning movie about racism in the depression era south, has died.  She was 89.

   "To Kill a Mockingbird" also won a Pulitzer Prize.  Lee had not been in the public eye much for many years, but released another book she had written earlier, "To Set a Watchman".

   The Calaveras County Arts Council is holding their annual 'Friends of the Arts' dinner, which will be held on March 8, 2016.

Man camping in Mokelumne Hill

   On February 18, 2016 a man was reported camping on Lafayette Street in Mokelumne Hill.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report of the incident.

Burglary at San Andreas business

   On February 18, 2016 a burglary was reported at a business on W. St. Charles Street in San Andreas.

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office took a report. We don't have any other details.

Burglary in Copperopolis, Horse beggar in Valley Springs

   A residential burglary was reported on February 17, 2016 by a resident on Beaver Road in Copperopolis. The Calaveras Sheriff took a report.

   A man was reported at the MarVal in Valley Springs on Hwy 26 with his horse tied up next to him, begging for money.  The Sheriff took no report on this incident.

Grand Theft on Poole Station Road, tree battle in Jenny Lind

   On February 17, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff was called to report a Grand Theft on Poole Station Road in San Andreas. The Sheriff took a report.

   Another report was called in about an altercation over the cutting of trees

Dumpster diver, house-egger in Calaveras

   Among the reports the Calaveras Sheriff's Office received on February 17, 2016 was one about a dumpster diver on Main Street in Murphys.

   February 18, 2016 at 10:50 AM:  A tree has reportedly fallen into power lines on Jackass Hill Road near Hwy 49 on the other side of Melones Reservoir.

Calaveras COG holding special meeting

   On February 26, 2016 the Calaveras Council of Governments will hold a Special Meeting at Bret Harte High School. We have requested more information from COG regarding this meeting.

   The only think on the agenda is to approve the RTIP or Regional Transportation Improvement Program. It isn't clear why it has to be a Special Meeting or why it's being held at Bret Hart High School instead of in San Andreas.

Car through fence, hits tree in Jamestown

   February 18, 2016 at 8:50 AM:  A car has reportedly left Hwy 108, gone through a fence and hit a tree at Hwy 108 near Tulloch Dam Road in Jamestown.

   Emergency personnel, including an ambulance are en route to the scene. The car is at least 100' off the roadway. Be careful if headed that way.

President Obama to visit Cuba

   President Obama yesterday announced that he will be taking a trip to Cuba some time in March.

   He will be the first US President to visit Cuba in 70 years. It's about time!

   Apparently the entire Bush family personally went to see Governor of South Carolina Nicki Haley, seeking her endorsement for President.

   Late yesterday, Haley endorsed Marco Rubio, and sparks were seen overhead at the Bush camp. Maybe Rubio offered her VP!

   February 18, 2016 at 6 AM:  A dead dog has been reported on Burson Road at Hwy 12 in Burson.

   Animal control has been contacted. Be cautious if headed that way.

Fricot City Road blocked

   February 18, 2016 at 6 AM:  Fricot City road is reportedly blocked one mile west of Dogtown Road in the San Andreas area.

   Possibly a tree came down, but it isn't clear what is causing the blockage yet. Be careful if headed in that direction.

Vehicle stuck on Fairway Drive

   February 18, 2016 at 5:55 AM:  A car is reportedly stuck in the snow on Fairway Drive near Antler Drive in Arnold.

    There is a problem on county roads, as keeping up with the snowfall is not usually handled well, so be extra careful if you must go out early.

Chains required on Hwy 4

Big rig collision in Linden

   February 17, 2016 at 10:30 AM:  A big rig and a car have reportedly collided at Hwy 26 and Mill Street in Linden.

   The big rig is blocking the roadway. Five CHP units and two big rig tow trucks are responding to the collision. An ambulance has also been dispatched. Avoid the area if possible until cleared.

      On February 22, 2016 the Calaveras LAFCo will meet at the Board of Supervisors chambers in San Andreas at 6 PM.

   On the agenda is selecting an alternate member for the Commission and status of the Resource Conservation District, being pushed by Supervisor (Bully) Edson.

   Presidential hopefuls are having quite a time locating voters in Nevada. It seems that hundreds of thousands who were foreclosed upon in that state are now nowhere to be found.

   That makes the lists of possible voters worthless and in many cases, they have to start their lists all over again.

Supreme Court Justice Scalia dead at 79

   Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has reportedly died suddenly in Texas.

   One of the strict conservatives on the bench, he had often made extreme statements when dissenting.

Semi and multiple vehicles crash in Merced area in heavy fog

   February 13, 2016 at 11 AM:  Clean up is still taking place at Hwy 59 and Rahilly Road in rural Merced, after a semi carrying cinder blocks and several other vehicles collided around 7:30 AM.

   At least one person in a Chevy Tahoe was declared deceased at the scene. The fog was extremely heavy and another collision involving a milk tanker took place after the initial collision. The roadway has been closed ever since.

Motorcycle race on Hwy 50 results in death

   Reportedly on February 12, 2016 around 5:10 PM two motorcycles were racing on Hwy 50 in Sacramento when one hit a car from the rear.

   That cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were indicated.

Are Calaveras judges 'clean' or Kuntz'd???

   We have received multiple reports that some judges in Calaveras County are very questionable in their judgment and rulings.  Corruption regarding District 3 is especially suspected, where Tea Party Supervisor Oliveira is a total Kuntzite.

   Any judge who was supported by Sheriff Kuntz is especially receiving of scrutiny. We hear of search warrants and poor judgments that Kuntz' favorite deputies wanted are not even questioned.

Teen girls dead in Phoenix suburb school shooting

   A shooting at a high school in a Phoenix, Arizona suburb was reported this morning.

   Two 15 year old girls are apparently dead of wounds received. As usual, the school is on lockdown, an investigation ongoing.

CCWD giving away land on Sandy Gulch in Wilseyville?

   On the CCWD (Calaveras County Water District) agenda for Wednesday February 17, 2016 at 9 AM is declaring 20 Sandy Gulch Lane in Wilseyville as surplus.

   Who they plan to give it to is not indicated on the agenda. When we find out, we will let our readers know. Usually when this happens, some non-profit who supported the Director for that district gets the land for $1 a year.

   This week, February 11-15, 2016 the Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament is enjoying just about perfect weather.

    Among the pros are celebrities like Carson Daly, Ray Romano, Toby Keith, Larry the Cable Guy and Justin Timberlake.

Raiders staying in Oakland for 1 year

   In case you haven't heard, the Oakland Raiders signed a one-year contract for the Coliseum in Oakland, while they decide where to go.

   For fans, this is a hopeful sign that perhaps a new stadium may be possible in the Oakland area. We'll see.

Hit and run suspect pursued in Ceres

   February 12, 2016 at 8:40 AM:  An apparent hit and run suspect near Crows Landing Road and Imperial Avenue in the Ceres area in now being pursued by three CHP units.

   Reportedly the suspect removed his shirt after the traffic collision involving a Honda Civic. An ambulance and fire personnel are also enroute to the location.

   February 12, 2016 at 8:35 AM:  A blue work truck is reportedly in the canal at Dickenson Ferry Road and Thornton Road in Merced.

   The driver is apparently trying to get out of about 3' of water. CHP is en route to the scene.

President Obama names 1.8 million acres monuments in California

   This morning President Obama has named three new monuments in the desert areas of California as monuments.

   It will protect 1.8 million acres of desert land from development. They are Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails and Castle Mountains National Monuments.

Clinton vs. Sanders debate

   The debate that took place in Wisconsin last night between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders was very interesting, and slightly different from the last one. At this point voter are looking for someone calm and able to handle adversity well.

   In this debate you could see that Clinton was the one who looked much more Presidential, even when Sanders tried to insult her.  Sanders, on the other hand, was easily riled and waving his hands about, making faces. 

Animal hazard in Copperopolis

   February 12, 2016 at 7:55 AM:  An animal hazard has been reported at Moccasin and Arrowhead in Copperopolis.

Marijuana Workshop in Angels Camp

   On Tuesday February 16, 2016 at 6 PM there will be a workshop on options for ordinances regarding marijuana cultivation and sales in the City of Angels Camp.

   It will be led by City Attorney Derek Cole, and one option is to accept the California State regulations when they are finally adopted.

Drive Sober this Presidents Day weekend

   Several law enforcement groups are planning sobriety checkpoints this holiday weekend.

   February 11, 2016 at 3:35 PM:  A car has reportedly rolled multiple times after losing control and is about 100' into a field at River and Hamilton in Patterson.

Final four surrender in Oregon

   The final four tea party occupiers of an Oregon wildlife refuge have now surrendered to the FBI.

   What makes these type of persons think they can just take over US land anyway?? That land is for all of us, not just for a few of them!

Calaveras District 5 Supervisor Kearney in BIG Trouble??? RECALL????

   Despite the pleas and facts surrounding Supervisor Kearney putting an Asphalt Plant in Rancho Calaveras, the District 5 Calaveras Board member voted to allow it without ANY Conditional Use Permit.

   Will there now be a recall of this elected official who had promised to have respect and caring for his constituents, but since being elected, has shown anything but care? Kearney's Tea Potty ties are apparently bringing him down, way down!!

  

Asleep on Arnold gas pump??

   On February 10, 2016 a transient was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff as asleep on a gas pump at an Arnold gas station.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took no report of the incident. Possibly a close friend of  Supervisor Oliveiras?

Tiger at Sacramento Zoo killed

   Baha, a 15-year-old tiger who was reported to be a wonderful mother and ambassador at the Sacramento Zoo, was killed yesterday morning.

   Apparently zoo officials introduced a mating partner into her enclosure and within 2 minutes the male attacked and killed the female. Zoo workers tried to save her, but were unsuccessful.

Young woman dead in Walmart parking lot for months

    On February 10, 2016 22-year-old Lauren Jessie Moss of Seaside, was found inside a parked car at a Salinas Walmart.  Her family had reported her missing in November of 2015.

   Possibly a suicide, no one had noticed anything suspicious, even though the car had been parked there for approximately 3 months.  An autopsy is being performed.

FBI surrounds Oregon wildlife refuge

   The FBI reports that it now has the wildlife refuge and its Tea Party trespassers surrounded this morning.

   They have also arrested Cliven Bundy, the father of the two leaders who have already been put in custody at the airport in Portland, apparently headed back to join the other Tea Party members. No shots have been fired according to the FBI.

Burglary report in Butte Fire area

   On February 9, 2016 around 10:40 PM a caller to the Calaveras Sheriff reported that for the third night in a row a car has been seen at a burned down home on Baker Riley Way in Mountain Ranch loading things into the vehicle.

   Rolls of wire were apparently being loaded into the back of a Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Another call was received less than an hour later.  The Sheriff took no report.

   February 10, 2016 at 9:50 AM:  A collision has been reported involving a taxi cab on Covington Road and Upper Quail Mine Road in the Columbia area.

   No injuries were indicated, but the roadway is blocked so be cautious if heading that way. 

U.S. behind Europe in politics

    With the success of right wing nationalist candidates like Donald Trump and Socialist anti-capitalist candidate Bernie Sanders, the change in American voters is obvious.

   Not enough praise can be given to the MyValleySprings.Com folks, Joyce Teckel and Colleen Platt for their work on making the public aware of the asphalt plant that Calaveras Supervisor Kearney tried to sneak past them.

   At the Board of Supervisors meeting on February 9, 2016 they were praised, while at the same time it was mentioned that Supervisor Kearney is rumored to have taken money for his campaign from the Ford Construction owners and the Asphalt people.

Calaveras Supervisor Kearney RECALL likely???

   Since becoming Supervisor of District 5, Steve Kearney, who had earlier professed to being a calm, deep-thinking moderate, has turned into a flaming tea potty extremist.

   He continued his lack of desire to represent his constituents at the Calaveras Supervisors meeting on February 9, 2016 by trying to give Ford Construction EXTRA time beyond the rules to argue their case.  More on this hearing later.

   Donald Trump easily beat out the other Republican contenders for delegates in the New Hampshire primary last night.  And Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side.

   February 16, 2016 at 3:50 PM:  A car has run off the roadway reportedl on Hwy 49 near Springfield Road in Columbia.

   No injuries were indicated, but use caution if headed that way.

Cars stuck together after crash

   February 9, 2016 at 3:45 PM:  Two vehicles were reportedly stuck together after colliding at Hwy 99 and Hwy 12 in the Lodi area.

Calaveras Sheriff's deputies and DA out of control???

    Again today the Calaveras Supervisors will debate the appointment of a temporary Sheriff to replace Gary Kuntz, who died of a sudden heart attack (with all his friends and family surrounding him, per the obituary) nearly 6 months ago.

Car fire in Acampo

    February 9, 2016 at 11:45 AM:  A car has been reported on fire in a field near Peltier Road and Bruella Road in Acampo.

   CHP and fire personnel are en route to the site.

Trump gets loudest cheers....

   The night before the New Hampshire primary and Donald Trump was in his finest form!

   In fact, when he referred to Ted Cruz in a crude, less than respectful term, the crowd roared.  I guess that's why they like him.  Trump is expected to win the Republican vote today.

Dog with sweater on Hwy 99

   February 9, 2016 at 11 AM:  A small brown dog has been reported on Hwy 99 near Harney Lane in the Stockton area.

   The dog is wearing a pink sweater. CHP is en route to the scene. Be cautious if headed that way.

Vehicle rollover near Patterson

   February 9, 2016 at 10 AM:  One person was pinned inside a vehicle that rolled over at Shiloh Road and Grayson Road in the Patterson area.

   Emergency crews are on scene to extricate the person inside. An ambulance is en route. Use caution in the area as the roadway is blocked.

Traffic collision in Escalon

   February 9, 2016 at 9:20 AM:  CHP is still at the scene investigating a report of a traffic collision and sign hit at Hwy 120 and Escalon Bellota Road in Escalon.

   No injuries were indicated in this collision.

Calaveras Supervisors still 'Piddling around' about new Sheriff

   The appointment of a new Calaveras County Sheriff is back on the Supervisor agenda for this morning, February 9, 2015.

    As part of the process they are supposed to appoint Sheriffs nearby to interview the candidates (those without a conflict of interest).  We do not see how ANY of them would NOT have a conflict. They either liked Kuntz or did not like Kuntz.

Jane Marie Branco of Mokelumne Hill

   Jane Marie Branco, Mokelumne Hill resident, passed away peacefully at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson on February 4, 2016. She was

'Wisdom' the Albatross is 65

   The Midway Wildlife Refuge has verified that "Wisdom" the 65 year old Albatross has returned to the refuge and is again sitting on an egg.

  She has mothered 35 chicks after being banded in the 1950's.

Car hits power pole in Martell

   February 8, 2016 at 11 AM:  A car hit a power pole at Hwy 88 and Ridge Road, not far from Walmart.

   A witness said they thought the person may have been texting while driving before the crash. Emergency personnel are en route to the scene.

Horse adoption event at Frogtown

    On March 19 and 20, 2016 the BLM will bring in around 20 wild horses, burros and mustangs for adoption at Frogtown.

   The gates open at 8 AM each day of the event. You can preview the animals on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 4 PM.
